I believe this song is about the war and both God. Spiritually, okay it's obviously not Christian music but it does give some reference to God. Yes, some bands screw around while their drunk/high and write up songs. I think they knew what they were writing about. Even if they were fucking around they still used those words. You may think it is spiritual or not but Avenged Sevenfold did in fact use those words to some significance and whether they think it is spiritual or not it's still their thoughts their words and their song. What fan can say exactly what this song means? It's all in opinion.
So stop fucking fighting.
i love this song | Reviewer: Maltag | 11/9/07
Rob thrasher this song may be about war yes but you have to look at it in another light, M.I.A. is the title, did you come to think that the "character" that's in the song might be missing in action? that's probably why he sings no one tells me why I'm here. Another reason he says i take their lives so they can't take mine. Then then murderer part did you read the line about the mother? sometimes in war civilians are hit from stray fire, did we purposely mean to kill them, no. He calls himself a murderer probably cause he is haunted by this memory. Am I saying this is all true, no. This is my way of looking at the song, but please don't just write this band off as bad people that don't support the troops. These days no one should be saying that someone doesn't support the troops, even if they don't. Either support them and wish them the best, or just don't say anything at all.
i don't know | Reviewer: Maude | 11/8/07
well this is probably one of my favorite a7x's song.
SO LAUREN SAID THAT THIS SONG HASN'T ANY SPIRITUAL MEANING
im sorry but it can't be true
i mean those are very good
but i do not think he his actually talking about real war .. i take it in a really more spiritual way
anyways . i love it ♥
Sounds phony to me | Reviewer: Rob Thrasher | 11/6/07
I listen to this song as a third party and I certainly hear it a few different ways. I hear maybe somebody talking about the horror and reality of war, but here are the worrisome points. References to some killing for fun is very worrisome since it is a commonly made assertion that many soldiers are killing like hunters for fun. And that killing a mother in front of her son is another common thing.
"Nobody tells me why I am here" is bothers me since most military people will tell you that they do understand why they are there, what their mission is and why we MUST WIN. This part of the song makes me think that the lyrics are supporting the assertion that the military people are dolts who could not get a degree and got stuck where they are. This is ABSURD!!!
"I take their lives so they can't take mine" seems to indicate that there is no other reason to take the lives of the other side other than self defense. The soldiers are not protecting themselves. They are actually protecting OURS, and they will say that.
Here's the last line where I think the true feelings of the song writer shows his true feelings..
...A murderer walks your streets tonight
Forgive me for my crimes
Don't forget that I was so young, fought so scared
In the name of God and Country
MURDERER???? CRIMES?????? I was so YOUNG. Forgive me God for murdering, I was so young...
No true military supporter would use the word MURDER, and forgive me for killing the futher muckers.
Especially using the word Crimes. This is a commonly claimed misnomer that the troops are dolts who are so
young that they can be tricked into murdering for God and Country.
Okay, fuck everyone who thinks this is a song without meaning. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/3/07
A song can mean anything to people, you can take it anyway that you want. People use songs to help them cope with events in their life and to find meaning so fuck anyone who says that this song means jack shit. It's a beautiful song and it shows to be very sentimental and touch on very emotional subjects LIKE WAR.

I'm 12-years-old and one of my fiends parents are both in the army. Every time I listen to this song I think about how her life must be and it makes me think about life.
Thank you, Avenged Sevenfold, for making me see life in a different perspective.

Too Deep, Too Brilliant | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/1/07
I first heard this song on fucking AMV (Anime Music Video), the words didn't mean anything but the song was good. Then I watch the official music video and that shit was too deep for me. I mean, I got chills like 20 times from watching a 8 minute long video. It was that brilliant!!!

Err dude who said this wasnt spiritual... half of their flippin songs are based on the bible!!!! the flipping lyrical artist wrote the river for good charlotte which if youve listened u will see how much that song is for God. It may be metal, but most people dont just piss about writing words, they write something that means something! believe what you want... this Guy knows Gods there, just wish u wud too!

the first time i heard this song i had to stop and really listen. i liked it so much, i asked the person (who was a total stranger)to play it again. i cried listening to the words and that stranger became one of my closest friends.....he started crying too. i think A7X is trying to get people to God through their music, especially the song 'Blinded in Chains'

When I first heard this song it immediately caught my attention and as I heard word by word It just touched me. I'm no softy but the lyrics of this song were just so sad but true. I listen to almost every night before I go to sleep and think about my 4 year's service starting in a couple months. Thank you so much Avenged for keeping my heart warm.
I like it | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/14/07
I am a Infantrymen for those that don't know the guy that does all the fighting over their. I hate the Hajji there a wast of air space. I just want to thank all those who support the war and are jobs.
I would really like to sand a thanks to the band it means a lot to me and Evey other US fighting men and women that we have someone out their writing songs about this war. Bc the one thing I hate is the fact that some people in the states thinks this another Vietnam and some of the kids are trying to do the same shit as what happened to my father who did 3 tours in Nam. I hate hippies and peace loving fags that where the up side down chicken foot the peace sign. f
So once more thanks Sgt. Sorensen US Army Infantry Sarasota Fla..
Amazing... | Reviewer: Justin | 10/11/07
I have a friend who just came back from Iraq, and is scheduled to go back around March, and I first actually listened to all the words to this song shortly after he left. I've talked with soldiers, as well as him, so I know how on-cue this song is. I read an interview with Shadows where he said the idea came around when he was talking with a few friends who were over in Iraq, and they inspired him to write this song, and the first time I fully listened to these lyrics, I almost cried. I'm not a religious guy, but I pray to whatever god exists that as many of our soldiers come home as soon as possible. I definitely support the troops.
Semper Fi.
bring 'em home | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/10/07
this song bring to words the simple truth about war from the eyes of a soldier. Its pointless, its scary, and it results in nothing but murder. Our innocent sons go fight "In the name of God and Country" to fight a pointless war. "Watching your brothers all die" with "stranger's blood on their hands". Why do we fight?
Bring Our Troops Home, while we still can.
