I was hooked thereafter. Her melodious voice has this beautiful, sexy, and jazzy edge to it. Her songs are wonderful and heart thrilling. I have only got a chance to see her once, in Detroit, with Chapter 8 at Henry's Lounge on Fenkell. I don't live in Detroit now, but she is an asset to music and to her artistry. My first impression of her was that she was so shy, her approach to the mike was as though she was "a local singer" I didn't even know who she was as was true for a lot of Detroiters, but let me tell you, she approached that mike and as they say in the South, she was flat foot gettin it! What a graceful, elegant lady, and what a natural talent. I immediately wanted to get to the internet and read about her struggle. I have fond memories of all of her tunes being played the summer of 1986. Afterwards a male friend allowed me to hear Angel from her first Album. Already in love with her voice I became SO DRAWN to her voice and her soulful and elegant way of singing. That from that point I was sold on her voice as being my favorite female vocalist. I too am a vocalist and a songstress (to myself) and I am 40 years of age, in college about to do a presentation in a Music Appreciation class,demonstrating the consonant voice of Anita Baker, whom I dream of one day meeting and attending one of her concerts.
