HOLLY SHIT WITH THE RILIGIOUS CRAP | Reviewer: Bre | 5/11/09
first off i love this song.
second,im not christian but i respect other people belifs and am not gonna force mine down other people's throats.
when it comes to the songs meaning....
okay,im not saying it CANT be about something religious(ugh) but i dont really think it is. alot of you guys made really good points. the way i saw it(and i havent seen the whole video so i guess that could add some ideas but still) is basicly a relationship and kinda a discription of unfaithful realationships. the girl has a boyfriend,he's not there so she want this other guy and the whole thing is described as a sinful and desired act. you could look at either the guy or the girl as the antagonist or protagonist and either of them as someone whos trying to escape.
it also talks about everyone wanting something/someone else(unfaithful relationships or wanting just something else in general). someone made the point of the person not even knowing who they are completely.i dont think its a huge part of it but i think it dose add something to the meaning.
you could also just totally ignore meanings and enjoy the song as a song.i personally enjoy the meanings to much though =]
overall i think there may be a Basic meaning, but only the writter would really know it,and there are alot of ways to look at it.everyone is going to think something different so get over it.
haha awesome song and the acoustic version totally kicks ass!!!! =]
Anberlin- "The Feel Good Drag" | Reviewer: Evan G. | 5/8/09
When I listened to this song, I didn't really think of it as completely Christian. It just said that an improper relationship is hopeless and the truth will come out. After seeing the video, I saw their was more to it. The video started out with a woman with a white dress on starting a bath. When the water began to flow, it was black. It seemed to me the dress represented her soul and the black water was the sin of sexual impurity. She got in and the sin stained her soul. So there are certainly Christian ideas, but I wouldn't say it is a Christian song.
By the way, I really like the paragraph, "A Very Good Song," posted on November 11, 2008. It is copied and pasted below.
"I wasn't aware of Anberlin until my 15 year old son played some for me. Particularly this song. We discussed its lyrical content and he got out of it what I had hoped he would..that sexual impurity and temptation present themselves in many forms and its never a good thing to allow those temptations to take root where you wind up acting on them. I have no problem with Christian artists not wanting to be in the CCM scene. Anymore than I would have a problem with a Christian lawyer representing nonchristians or a Christian grocier selling to nonbelievers. Its not our place to tell others how God should be using them. That's God's job.
That having been said...I think the song is very well done and I like the singer's voice. I will listen and look over other Anberlin songs but I have no trouble with this."

Not about god, about a cheating whore | Reviewer: tim | 5/1/09
Sorry to say but, yes there's a right answer and there's a wrong answer. I grew up in times when you knew when you lost, it wasn't this everybody wins shit. I can say, the grass is red because thats the way I see it, does that mean I'm wrong? Hell yea I'm wrong. i think instead of being so sensative to other people's feelings, we need to stand up for what we know is right. This song is about a cheating whore who could care less about anyone but herself. She chose to wander out there, instead of communicating her feelings to her boyfriend. My mom always said "you can't turn a hoe into a housewife, no matter how hard you try." So please instead of getting so deep, look at the song literly. A whore is a whore is a whore.
anberlin and the question of christianity | Reviewer: Lifaen22 | 5/1/09
Well arguing about it be christian or not, I agree it is exactly how you take it but, I can say I personally have met the band in lakeland florida before they were famous and yes they are christian. Most of the places they played before they're fame started up were church functions for youth groups. Plantcity church of God was one they visited frequently and played after home football games. I first met steven christian playing at ST. peters apiscaple church in plant city. Not arguing with anyone just a little fod for thought and what I know first hand
You are all on crack...(Jesus-crack...) | Reviewer: Alex | 4/27/09
It is just a song... about a semi-relationship that was doomed from the start. Seriously, if you want to talk about religion, go contribute to Conservapedia. They particularly slanted articles on absolutely everything. You'll fit right in!
does it matter? | Reviewer: Jon | 4/28/09
the beauty of music and song lyrics is that there is no one thing each song is about. Each song is open to the interpetation of the individual listening to it. If you think the song is based around god...then it is. If someone thinks its about something else...then it is. It all about whos listening to it and what it means to them. =)

I'm not sure if there's a Christian aspect to this or not, however I interpreted the video not as the man trying to save the woman, i feel as if the guy is the antagonist and the woman is trying to escape...i don't know but it seems to me like this is about someone who has a personality disorder type of thing and doesn't know WHO they are. Everyone sees somone that there not and the person has no way out. And in the end she escapes... i don't know maybe im just totally wrong... but that's how i heard it... this song is very similar to lifeline to but whatver...
Seriously... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/21/09
Seriously guys, stop arguing. I've seen a fair few posts on here by people that claim to be Christian, yet immediately flame the people who say this song isn't about God. And vice versa. This song is open to opinion, and in my opinion, it is based on God. I am a Christian, I believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God, and was raised back to life again, so that obviously influences my idea. Remember people, the bible says "love your neighbour as yourself." That also means respect people's opinion. This song is very good, we all agree on that, so let's stop the bickering. If you are desperate to find the meaning to this song, e-mail Anberlin :). Or, if you want to ask me why I believe this, just email me :) (stephenlamont@hotmail.co.uk)

First off I'd like to say I'm a Christian...I love this song. It personally means something to me. I agree that it's everyones own opinion to interpret what they want from this song...if they think the band is Christian or not is their personal opinion. We shouldn't criticize someone else's beliefs or opinions. Personally to me the song is per se like someone else said a battle with addictions for not just one but everyone. In the video you see someone trying to break through and save this girl...to me this is a representation of Jesus saving...but in the end he doesn't reach the girl in time. Her "sin" consumes her. Again this is just my interpretation please don't criticize...just enjoy this amazing song...whoever u r :)
Kick Ass Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/19/09
I friggin LOVE this song! Now, I came here more concerned about learning to sing the song well than discussing God or the lack thereof. That being said, I decided to come here with a fresh idea: do any of you realize that all of you are RIGHT? If English class has taught me anything it's that poetry (ie: music) is open for interpretation. There is no right answer, ergo, every answer is right! Everyone is going to interpret a song differently based on prior beliefs, experiences, or even their mood at the time. Christians will be liable to put a Christian spin on things and those who don't believe in a God will often write Him off as a topic. But Holy Shit (no pun intended) an opinion is just that, an opinion! No doubt the writer has an idea in his or her head when a song is written, but once it gets out here that's public domain. So just try to have an open mind about things, no matter which side you're on.
ps: I believe in Jesus but can't stand it when a song has His name or God or holy or anything too "religious" in it. ... go figure.
