Some of the best most applicable lyrics to anyone who has ever been close to this age. Personally this song always makes me think of some of the people who enlisted at such a young age because, "life is so hard for an American teen." <www.mbenceino>

I think he should have said "I'm inspired by the ups and downs" instead of lines form from the ups and downs. When I was eighteen I was inspired by the ups and downs. Now I feel to old to really be inspired by anything but my daughter! :)

Back in the day, these guys were starving for a hit. While I like the album cut of this song, it doesnt even beging to show the frustration and anger that he was truley trying to express. The Demo track which is still available, is slightly heavier, and longer. And shows a devolving into insanity which shows the clearer coorelation toward vietnam. Additionally, its about having nowhere to go, and watching everyone around you go places, and you are trapped without a way out

this song just describes exactly what its like to be eighteen you're emotionallly and mentally still a teenager but legally you're a man and are expected to behave like one. the song describes the mental conflict that goes through your mind...least it describes how i felt at eighteen..

lyric meaning | Reviewer: Kayla | 12/12/08

I thought this song meant that he was young man who wanted to break free from his parents and become his own person, but we in class we were listening to vietnam music and I now think that when it said "I gotta get away". I see now that he was talking about vietnam and being too young and not nothing what to do and that he had to get away from it all.
