To the guy who said Emo is short for Emotional, you're dead wrong. Emo is short for Emotive Hardcore, which is a genre that has been dead and buried since the late 90's.
Emo got skewered into being the lable for "emotional teenage angst music." Bands that created the Emo movement have since stated they want nothing to do with the term.
Also. Just throwing in here. Alexisonfire is amazing. They are the closest thing to real Emo we have left.
everyone.. | Reviewer: lashy | 7/21/08
the people who think this song, or more importantly, this band, is emo, they are seriously screwed up.
i think the lyrics are telling you to be yourself, to exress who you are, not to lt fear control you.
that word, emo, that is just a really fxucking stupid word, only to cover up someones insecurities, sure, maybe some people do cut themselves, thats their problem.
personally i love this song, it's a bloody good song.. =]
alexisonfire, for life.. =]
Fucking drop it | Reviewer: randy | 2/9/08
This song is about all of the other people who have commented here, bickering about labels and terms. To me this song is just saying that all of this EMO shit and all the other terms that people throw around is bollocks, for alexis its about the music not the genre or the name that people give it.
drop it | Reviewer: Randy | 2/9/08
I personally think that this whole song is about people like all of you who constantly bicker abour whether something is EMO or not, the song says "this shit isnt about hair" etc etc. For me this whole song is about the labels that people constantly throw around and how pointless they are, its about the music not the genre.
did anyone notice.. | Reviewer: novastorm77 | 12/10/07
...the drums in this song are the same as the drumming in Dance Dance by falloutboy? Just listen to them both. Besides the symbol, its pretty close.
Yeah i agree this song is bashing emo culture, especially with the "And this shit is definitly not about hair" part.
This was their best album

This was their best album; not too hard and not too soft. Maybe Dallas' voice improved or something but i like this better than the first. And crisis the album doesn't have enough really special songs. Watch Out!
yep.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/2/07
An excellent song! But then again, does Alexisonfire ever have a bad one? I think not!
I think it has a great message that everyone can relate to in everyway. To me I believe its all about being yourself, and living your life to the fullest, while at the same time being true to yourself. This is the type of song that everyone can find their own meaning in! Most of their songs are like that, and this is only one of the reasons why Alexisonfire friggin rocks. And this whole "emo" thing.. Like who came up with that word? The label society kinda went crazy with that one..
inspirational song | Reviewer: coco | 10/30/07
this whole argument about whether this song is emo or not, is exactly what the lyrics are trying to explain. people are so caught up in labels and fashion and to worried about what others think to find the true meaning of music, and why music is so important. those who appreciate music, and especially this song know exactly what it means to live.
Great song writing once | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/14/07
Emo, short for emotional, is not what this song is or band. Who is really crazy enough to think this about a song that is obviously saying, stop living in the past and stop caring about what others think? So, if you cant understand the lyrics, then stop trying to be a critic and just enjoy the song. As long as you understand that this is a great song with some powerful lyrics
thanks | Reviewer: hannah.. | 6/15/07
i hate labels, don't label this song emo.
emo derived from the word emotional, and has nothing to do with the shit some people say about cutting themselves, wearing skinny jeans, having black hair or wearing eye liner.
grow up.
best song :)
