From what i've read and pieced together this song was about layne "Thomas" staley, perhaps mayanrds perspective or perhaps about him but thats a theory the other is its about the religous Icon "doubting thomas" however Maynard has been known to write a few songs about Layne for instance it's certain that his song "The outsider" is about Layne Staley anyways just though i'd add that in

Thats because Maynard write his lyrics around the music... Not the other way around like most bands... He feels the noises of the instruments, and writes what he feels

I looove this song.... Maynard is very versatile as an artist. The dynamic in this song is brilliant. I love how Maynard and the instrumentals are in unison as far as balance goes.
