I prefer when a band is putting their own style in a song. I am definitely a fan of both Tool and A Perfect Circle, But there are just some songs that CANNOT be remade unless sung exactly as they were originally. A Perfect Circle could've done a mujch better job on this song, even if their aim was to show a mockery of the original message. To me, it's just proof that even the greatest of minds, in the height of their talent shall slip and stumble occasionally. Us as fans, though, are here to help you balance!
