I think this song is about pretending to be someone you are not. It's a beautiful lie because the person is afraid to show himself to the world. To show his weakness and all the things that make him human. So, he is trying to keep up with the image of perfection and poise, but inside he is getting tired.
Also, I think he is trying to forget who he was before. Maybe something happened or he did something wrong, that made him start hiding himself, and he found out he liked more the image he showed than who he really is, because he despises himself.
If you hadn't noticed, I kind of relate to the song. I guess we all fing a diferent meaning to the song.

i love this song. it make me reminisce about problems, old, new, and ongoing. it is very nicely written, and very emotional. haha i feel like im writing a crappy review, but yeah. its amazing.

I've gotta admit, this is one of the most heartfelt songs I know. The lyrics do mean something different to everyone I guess... to me I can hear my battle with drugs, the fact that you can create your own "beautiful lie" instead of having to deal with the reality. I'm playing a game with myself, cause I know that one day i won't be able to take much more. The thump at the end of the song is the end of the game. The end of my life.

But anyway.

It's an awesome song.

I'm living a strange situation, I love a girl... She probably don't feel the same for me. A friend told me something I think is a lie, but I can't stop believing in it, so beautiful lie that makes me lie to her... And I can't stop listening to this song.

too damn good! it's one of those songs you just get hooked on, like c'mon, c'mon with def leppard. personally I think it's about the crap politicians feed and have resulted in melting icecaps. it's what i think it's about, tho to relate it to a cheaty relationship is of course also a possible interpretation. that was a while ago. about jared also singing apart from acting is a very cool thing. shows a more real person than a lot of artists.

This song does more than describe a relationship that I've been in recently. So hard for me to not share everything with that person as life has dictated a different path for me. She is wonderful and deserves so much more than I could ever imagine giving. I only regret hurting her....please forgive me.

For me the song just refers to those moments in which people are trying to understand the meaning of life. All the meanings seem to be fake, but they give us hope. The song is reminding us that we don't need to know what life means, we just need to get it's a game.

song its a great song and its meaning could be very controversal i personally agree that it is about life in general .And if you think about it if you actually try to grasp the concept that life is just a game it would have a giant impact on your life .Even people who have there religions could relate to this cause really its just a game with "winners" and "losers" but in the end you got ask why are you playing this game?what are you getting from it? usually people play games not for the end result but just for the fun of playing the game. So come on have a little fun, this is it, this game ends like all the rest.

to each perosn who listens to this song, they will interpret it diiferently. personally i agree with the person below me, "a beautiful lie", as such in the song, is reffering to life itself. It is a lie? Or is it what we make of it? Is life as intimidating as we make it out to be? Is there some form of meaning to our lives, or is a 'beautiful lie' that we have adapted to.

All you guys are relating this song to a lost love, are gf/bfs. I don't know if it's just me, but this song to me anyways, relates to life in general. "This is just a game" Relating to Life... He has to tell himself it's just a game to keep on going. The worlds wonderful, perfect.. maybe not perfect... but that's the 'Beautiful Lie.' maybe thats just how it relates to me though. I don't know...

I, like alot of others, had never heard of 30seconds to mars, untill i saw Jared Leto in a movie, i thought he was reaalllyyy hot(:
and i asked my friend where he was from, and he said he was the singer in 30seconds to mars.
so i looked them up, at first i thought it was just another band, and to be honest at first i only cared because i wanted to see Jared.
but now, they're like deff one of my favorite bands. im constantly listening to their music. i even sing along(:

i first heard 30seconds to mars last year when the kill came out and i had never heard any other songs and i went and bought the album and now i am hooked jared leto his voice is so amazing

I had a lot of doubts about this band and never gave them much chance. But I was really surprised by this song, they write really, really well, and Jared's voice is amazing, have to give him credit for that. Sure there are much better bands, but I think this album is a job well done.
