Yertle The Turtle Lyrics - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Review The Song (6)

Look at that turtle go, bro

On a far away island
of Salamasond I said a
Yertle the turtle
Was king of the pond
A nice little pond
It was clean it was neat
The water was warm
There was plenty to eat
Until one day
The king of them all
Decided the kingdom
He ruled was too small
I'm a ruler of all that I see
But I don't see enough
And that's the trouble with me

With this stone for a throne
I am too low down
I cannot look down
Upon the places beyond
And Yertle the turtle king
Lifted his hand
And Yertle the turtle king
Gave a command
He ordered all the turtles
Onto one another's back
He piled them high
Into a ten turtle stack
Ow Yertle the turtle
The things I now rule
I'm king of a cow
I'm king of a mule

Then down from below
In the great turtle stack
Came a burp from a plain
Little turtle named Mack
Just part of the throne
This burpin' little turtle
Looked up and said "I beg
Your pardon king Yertle"
I've pains in my back
My shoulders and my knees
How long must we stand
Here your majesty
"Silence !" the king of the
Turtles barked back
To the bad burpin'
Little turtle named Mack
I'm Yertle the turtle
Oh marvelous me for
I am ruler of all that I see

Yertle, Yertle the turtle...
Yertle, Yertle the turtle...

Yertle the Turtle is such a good song. I jam to it all the time. I love how it is about a Dr. Seuss book because i like picture books. This song reminds me of the colour green because turtles are green. lololololololololololololol <3

The book was about hitler but the adam kiedis changed it to be about how native americans and other minorities are taken advantage of in the US and he left off the end because hitler was overthrown but minorities are still oppressed. One of my favorite RHCP songs great mix of Funk and political activism.

WTF | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/25/09

To the first reviewer, please, PLEASE get a brain. Yertle the Turtle is from a Dr. Seuss book published in 1958. Long before video games were around. And that "mix of rock/rap" is called funk rock. So if you would kindly do a little research before you post next time, it's be great. :P

quick question... | Reviewer: Dr. Seuss | 8/27/08

hello, my name is Dr. Seuss and i was just wondering why you chose my book "yertle the turtle" to make a song about.

but what more troubles my mind is why you choose to finish the song short. if u will have read my book you would have noticed that yertle the turtle falls from his turtle stack after Mack burps, thus releasing the turtles from the thrown stack letting them be free as "turtles and, maybe, all creatures should be."

P.S. love all ur other stuff though. Fortune Faded = best song ever

Chili Funk! | Reviewer: Dylan Garner | 6/21/07

One of the best funk songs the Chili Peppers have ever released, especially the live version called Yertle Trilogy (Yertle + Freaky Styley + P-Funk's Cosmic Slop) which is also incredible.

Great funkadelic song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/15/07

Yertle the Turtle is a truly original song for the Chili Peppers, combining a video game character with a mix of rock/rap.
