Cadd9 Cmaj7 Em7 Am
If you find me in a gloom, or catch me in a dream
Am/G F Bb G7
Inside my lonely room, there is no in between
Cadd9 Em7
Whispering pines, rising of the tide
Am Am/G
If only one star shines
F Bb G7-9/D Bb7/D
That's just enough to get inside
Eb Eb7
I will wait until it all goes 'round
Abmaj7 Cm/G
With you in sight, the lost are found
Cmaj7 Em7
Foghorn through the night, calling out to sea
Am Am/G F Bb G7
Protect my only light, 'cause she once belonged to me
Cmaj7 Em7
Let the waves rush in, let the seagulls cry
Am Am/G F Bb G7-9/D Bb7/D
For if I live again, these hopes will never die
Eb Eb7
I can feel you standing there
Abmaj7 Cm/G
But I dont see you anywhere

Cmaj7 Em Eb Ab6 Gsus4 G7

Cmaj7 Em7
Standing by the well, wishing for the rains
Am Am/G F Bb G7-9
Reaching to the clouds, for nothing else remains
C Em7
Drifting in a daze, when evening will be done
Try looking through a haze
Am/G F Bb G7-9/D Bb7/D
At an empty house, in the cold, cold sun
Eb Eb7
I will wait until it all goes round
Abmaj7 Cm/G Cmaj7 Cadd9
With you in sight, the lost are found

Catching up with the Band | Reviewer: Ian | 10/17/11

Caught up with this track only last year. Must have been on a compilation or something. It's just such a moving song, beautifully paced, lyrical but substantial. Had to hunt it down on this site cos it just popped in my head again just now.

Back again. | Reviewer: Greg Lucas | 11/11/07

The Band was one of my favorites when they first hit. I've saw them play at least 2 or 3 times and was always amazed at how they were one of the small number of groups that could actually sound like their records when they wanted. Now that my youngest child is away at college I'm rebuying all the CD's lost to them over the years. This is the third time I've purchased "The Band" One Vinyl and now a second CD. It's still one of my favorite listens and still puts me in the same happy/sad mood it always has. Life is good.

After 40 years Whispering Pines is Better | Reviewer: Jeff Gifford | 7/1/07

I listened to The Band album constantly when I was 19 and in college. Now at age 59 this album, and, in particular this song, is still a masterpiece. The music, the voices, the lyrics, the content is as powerful as it was 40 years ago. These guys took bluegrass rock to heights never seen before. Too bad they broke up. However, they were great in their individual endeavors.

Whispering Pines - A Masterpiece!! | Reviewer: Birger Svanholt | 12/16/05

The greatness of The Band lies much in their unique sound, the feel, the swing, and the waythe playing of each individual musician interacts with the others. In "Whispering Pines" you get just that, plus a poetical lyrical imagery as high in quality as the better songs of Bob Dylan, to a melody that in beauty and richness matches the best songs of say, Neil Young. "Whispering Pines" is simply a masterpiece.
