Nirvana Where Did You Sleep Last Night Lyrics

Last updated: 03/27/2014 10:30:57 PM

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me,
Tell me where did you sleep last night.

In the pines, in the pines,
Where the sun don't ever shine.
I would shiver the whole night through.

My girl, my girl, where will you go?
I'm going where the cold wind blows.

In the pines, in the pines,
Where the sun don't ever shine.
I would shiver the whole night through

Her husband, was a hard working man,
Just about a mile from here.
His head was found in a driving wheel,
But his body never was found.

I would shiver the whole night through.

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me,
Tell me where did you sleep last night.

In the pines, in the pines,
Where the sun don't ever shine.
I would shiver the whole night through.

My girl, my girl, where will you go?
I'm going where the cold wind blows.

In the pines, …the pines,
……… sun,
……….shine.
I shiver the whole, night through!

This spirit of Kurt Cobain. | Reviewer: Hades Adams | 3/28/14

To all youse guys/girls out their ,If Kurt was alive still and read all this incorrect and dispicuble information youse have put out their he would of just simply told use all to
"Go fuck your selves". He would'nt like how all of you are competing with
"who is the biggest nirvana fan". Like seriously, Kurt saw all his fans as equal people, he also saw him self as a person the same as you or me. He was just a man who gave the time and devotion to create excellent poetry, He also learned how to play all his diffrent Idol's Music in his own style of performance. This song was Origionaly wrote by a Unknown Old Folk singer back in the late 1800's and has been coverd by many diffrent artist all in their own diffrent individual ways.

Also people who are spelling his name curt and spelling words wrong, hay guys good on ya hay! Like im
Serious man , kurt was a horrible speller and did not give too fucks about it.

So to the people out their ripping on these young kids about their spelling and saying your all the biggest fans... Kurt did not care. If you wanto do something fun! Go research who Kurt Cobain was, reaserch his idols, beliefs, history of his childhood, and discover the meanings to his music in your own way.

R.I.P Kurt Cobain and let your legacy live on mate.

Long live Grunge music...

The Cobain Family | Reviewer: Shane Cobain | 1/25/13

Nirvana is my favorite band and Kurt Cobain is my icon. I really love this song. It reminds me of my father because he was never really around much when I was growing up and I ask myself "Where was he all those nights when I needed him?" Now,I'm 16 and my father recently died. I found out he had killed himself in jail. So,I know what suicide is like and I can sympathize with Courtney and Kurt's daughter,Frances Bean Cobain. It sucks losing your father. I only saw mine about maybe twice or three times in my lifetime. So,my prayers go out to Frances...God bless you. By the way,I am a girl and my real name is Cheyenne. Shane is just a nickname because a teacher said my name wrong once. Plus,I'm a tomboy, too. So,anyway,I love you.Kurt and God bless the Cobain family. Amen.

as a teenager | Reviewer: clifton | 4/19/12

as a teenager i have relized there is much to discuss over the great kurt cobain but people need to get lives. i know he was a wonderful songwriter but god damn do you think he would like his fans tryinng to make sense of his songs when clearly he only wanted people to listen to his music for what it was.

This song always gives me chills, it's the perfect end to the unplugged album it just gets more and more intense...(Ps it's true the real author of this song is unknown, nobody knows who really wrote it it's an old folk song. Nirvana and the others only helped popularize it).

Thanks Kurt | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/14/12

Funny how all the best bands admire the greatest blues artists. Thank God that Kurt proved all his critics wrong before he leaving us and that he couldn't to prove that you really do have to understand the past to change the present and define the future.

not a leadbetter song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Reviewer: Karine mcfall | 10/21/11

Thisisthe greatest song Nirvana ever performed, but ifany ofu have ever read the BOOK not the internet, but Nirvanas book with every meaning to every song. Kurt idolized this blues folksinger who also happened to be black. Do your research before becoming a critic. and appreciate the greatest gift to your ears; music.

"The identity of the song's author is unknown, but it has been recorded by many artists in numerous genres"
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Pines

The same can be said about lot of other blues and folksongs. Nirvana wasn't the first or the last to do a cower of one of this songs.
... and it IS a great interpretation of it.

@no one special

Nirvana are praised for this song because it's widely accepted as one of the greatest versions of the song ever performed.
Also, the song was around before Lead Belly. He is simply another artist whose version of the song is widely known.

unfortunately | Reviewer: no one special | 5/18/10

Nirvana was a great band and all that, I totally agree. But...
To those of who that praise this song because of Nirvana are wrong. The song was originally made by Lead Belly. Nirvana only did a cover on it.
Just sayin'.

Nirvana is in my head | Reviewer: Saurabh Parihar | 3/30/10

NIRVANA was the best band ever. It hurts that it is no more. But they still live in our hearts and in our mind and espesially in our ears making them comfortable. Kurt wanted to live but this f**king world didn't. I love NIRVANA. Everyday i talk to Kurt.

IOne of Leadbelly's finest songs | Reviewer: Roger Sayer | 3/6/10

This was one of Leadbelly's finest songs;responsible for many songs-like "Goodnight Irene"- "Rock Island Line" -"Cottonfields" - "Frankie and Johnny".Many of his songs formed the basis of Lonnie Donegans repertoire in the '50s skiffle boom. His biography is well worth reading;he was convicted of murder but got a pardon because the prison governor liked his songs!!`

wow i love this song. I know kurt didn't write it, but this song would be nothing if kurt never played it live. I get the chills at the end of the song in the unplugged version. I can feel his emotions as he screems "my girl don't lie to me". Its like he is screaming right at courney's face why did you cheat on me. The song shows his sensitive side. The funny part is he was on heroin during that whole live performance. Much love to kurt, dave, and krist. and i guess pat too
