Bob Dylan Visions Of Johanna Lyrics

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet ?
We sit here stranded, though we're all doin our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain, tempting you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this room the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing really nothing to turn off
Just Louise and her lover so entwined
And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind.

In the empty lot where the ladies play blindman's bluff with the key chain
And the all-night girls they whisper of escapades out on the D-train
We can hear the night watchman click his flashlight
Ask himself if it's him or them it's insane
Louise she's all right she's just near
She's delicate and seems like veneer
But she just makes it all too concise and too clear
That Johanna's not here
The ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face
Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place.

Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously
He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously
And when bringing her name up
He speaks of a farewell kiss to me
He's sure got a lotta gall to be so useless and all
Muttering small talk at the wall while I'm in the hall
Oh, how can I explain ?
It's so hard to get on
And these visions of Johanna they kept me up past the dawn.

Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles
See the primitive wallflower freeze
When the jelly-faced women all sneeze
Hear the one with the mustache say, "Jeeze
I can't find my knees"
Oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule
But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel.

The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him
Saying, "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"
But like Louise always says
"Ya can't look at much, can ya man" as she prepares for him.
And Madonna, she still has not showed
We see this empty cage now corrode
Where her cape of the stage once had flowed
The fiddler, he now steps to the road
He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed
On the back of the fish truck that loads
While my conscience explodes
The harmonicas play the skeleton keys of the rain
And these visions of Johanna are now all that remain.

Excellent imagination that Bob Dylan is known for excels to the beautiful melody of his guitar with just the right rhythm. I know he would understand, & not mind my opinion. That I can more easily express in poetry that rhymes verses in my mind.... Oh, so many different faces of love traces in songs along the days that have gone to yesterday..... Baby, where does your heart belong today?
Now, I'm speaking to myself, as well as anyone who's living in the past who wants true love at last....Yesterday's tomorrow is here right now; I'm leaving pain & sorrow of love that didn't last. A new day in the present is better than illusions and confusion of the past. We may not be as beautiful, but the things that aren't seen are eternal. We have a spirit, we have a soul that lives in a body....the real you, the real me is that spirit and soul headed for eternal destiny. God's promises are true. If we believe HE'll provide for what we need, by feeding our faith and starving your doubt, He'll bring us through. . ...The problem I see is that we all want something from God that we see, we want to tell him who, where, and what to do ....just relax and let Him decide the right road to ride, surrender your will to the one Who loves you still. Believe He'll do His best, let yourself pass faith's test... He hears your prayer, He knows you're there, even if it seems like it's going no where. . Peter walked on water as long as he looked at Jesus. When he looked at the water .(circumstances) he sunk. Then, he reached out to Jesus with all his heart and the Lord pulled him up. Here are a couple of my favorite scriptures to stand on, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart" and "The promises are received by without works is dead". Paul said,"I'll show you my faith by my works". That teaches me that I'm to show the Lord that I trust in Him to keep what is mine, to wait for the witness of His Holy Spirit for the season for it's fulfillment to
come. And while I'm waiting, to continue to water the seed of His promise by meditating on His word. Here's a few for a helpmeet..."None shall lack their mate for My mouth it has spoken it, and My SPIRIT has gathered them." Maybe there are so many divorces because very few people wait for the HOLY SPIRIT to draw them to their mate, instead, they settle for some one who only satisfies their emotions and physical attraction. "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it build it in vain."
