This Is War Lyrics
Performed by Smile Empty SoulReview The Song (20)
i'm just a normal man
i wouldn't hurt nothing at all
but here we are
our leaders have a plan
i'd only kill if it's for them
now here we are
i drove in a car and flew in a plane
to come to your house and kick your door in
now it's down to this, it's just you and me
i'll blow your fucking head off for my country
i go to church and tithe
i go to work in a suit and tie
but this is war
i'm really not sure why
but the tv says that you are wrong
now here we are
[chorus]
my feet hurt from the sand
but still i march on gun in hand
cause this is war
this isn't what i planned
i wanted to be so much more
but this is war
[chorus]

Clueless,
You are on point! The lyrics to this song are so simple yet powerful. I'm also a combat vet from OIF and OEF. I think the song reflects how so many "kids" get into something through their naivety and come to realize the consequences, along with the inner conflict that comes. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with your assessment, well stated. There is a battle that goes on inside of all of us Soldiers, especially Christians - the inner conflict runs deep. Like you though I did and would do anything to protect my brothers in arms. I have no regrets.

I have read many of the comments posted and a lot of just don't get the picture. You are correct in saying that this song does not support war. It does show the horrors of war and having to go fight in another country for your own governments reason. However anyone who has joined the armed forces after 9/11 know that we are at war and yet they still join and then complain about having to to. My thoughts are if you don't support what your government is doing then don't freak join the military. And for the other knuckleheads out there, we are not killing people because we are told to. When you get down to the facts and basis of it, we do it for our brothers that are to the left and right of us. Most of you who are posting has never been it that position. Let me tell you that it is a position that I pray none of you have to been in because it is a hard thing to do and to deal with. But when the actions start you are worried about those around you and you suffer through the thoughts and depression of taking a life afterwards. I have been in Iraq 2 and Afghanistan 3 and I do it because of the soldiers that I am around because they are my family not the government!

Well I like the song it describes war very well and it is sarcastic in a way. I can't wait to get deployed I'm suppose to be going to Japan probably to 7th comm but idk yet. Hopefully I'll get to go to afghanistan...I won't feel like I'm doing anything until I go there. Oorah marine corps!
Sarcasm | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/22/10
the feeling i get from smile empty soul is, sarcasm, is one of their ways... this... to me anyways... is a very anti war themed song... like in dont ever leave... sarcasm just (to me) seems to be a theme for this band...

If you all want to complain about the war and how terrible it is, then why are you posting it on this website? nobody here actually cares. They're all just putting a comment down so they sound all smart, patriotic and cool. You don't. You all just sound super corny. That isn't to say I have anything against enlisted forces; I just don't like hearing them bitch.

this song is indeed about war but as others have said it does not support it.
now my feeling on this is, if you dont support the war, atleast support your own troops.
that is all.

Most people will never understand what it's like to be put into a war scenario. This songs describes what Marines and Soldiers get put through day in and day out. It's difficult to forget the things you do.

I love this song it shows that American soldiers like myself are not just killing machines we have feelings, and no matter who you are when you kill someone it will fuck with you. However, we (soldiers) know the consequences we don't want our kids to go through what we are going through right now that is why we do what we do. This song sends a subliminal message that noone likes war but the one percent of Americans that are willing to free the world will step up and take the consequences and we put the worlds weight on our backs to help support the American people. It doesn't matter if it is a protestor, an animal or human rights activist, so support us because we support you.

Why is everyone putting their views on the war out? It's suppose to review the song, not your political feelings. BTW, if you haven't gone, then shut your mouth. It's something you'll never understand. I'm sure most of you that are talking about your service aren't even in a combat MOS. And most recently, our war is more than fighting terror, we're keeping millions of kilograms of Heroin from coming to our country.
War.. | Reviewer: Vincent | 5/6/09
Beautiful song, it expresses the madness of war perfectly, that so much men don't know what they are actually fighting for exept 'omG itZ tEh TeRrOrisTz!!'
Humans as a species need to grow up and take an adult look at WTF we're actually doing instead of making more and more conflicts, killing thousands of innocents in the progress.
Why would you want to die for your country? do you think your leaders care? You are just a statistic to them. You get the same 'honorous' burial as all those before you and they're done with it.
Wake up, stop fighting.
Don't continue to live your lives with fear. Live your lives with love. If everyone would do that there wouldn't be a need for war anymore.
~Peace out.
