The Song is Over Lyrics - The Who

Review The Song (5)

The song is over
It's all behind me
I should have known it
She tried to find me

Our love is over
They're all ahead now
I've got to learn it
I'm gonna sing out

chorus:
I'll sing my song to the wide open spaces
I'll sing my heart out to the infinite sea
I'll sing my visions to the sky high mountains
I'll sing my song to the free, to the free

I'll sing my song to the wide open spaces
I'll sing my heart out to the infinite sea
I'll sing my visions to the sky high mountains
I'll sing my song to the free, to the free

When I walked in through the door
Thought it was me I was looking for
She was the first song I ever sang
But it stopped as soon as it began

Our love is over
It's all behind me
They're all ahead now
Can't hope to find me

(chorus)
I'll sing my song to the wide open spaces
I'll sing my heart out to the infinite sea
I'll sing my visions to the sky high mountains
I'll sing my song to the free, to the free

I'll sing my song to the wide open spaces
I'll sing my heart out to the infinite sea
I'll sing my visions to the sky high mountains
I'll sing my song to the free, to the free

This song is over
I'm left with only tears
I must remember
Even if it takes a million years

The song is over
The song is over

except in one note, pure and easy
Playing so free like a breath rippling by.

Songs for life | Reviewer: Stu | 3/27/14

This and so many more of the Who's songs ,have formed a score to my life. I have been lucky to have lived near Roger , seen them play in Scotland & Wembly (still a force, even with just the ghost of Keith on stage)..and every time I play a tune it transports me back to the first time , to my boyhood bedroom, to past friends and lonely rain swept nights, when only the beating heart of the Who made sense and gave me a purpose, gave me a direction to follow. Their music still does this today ..so powerful, so moving, so crafted...so bloody exciting nothing else comes close, not for a million years .

monday night mayhem ending | Reviewer: mrcinheaven | 10/2/13

Used at the end of made for tv movie Monday Night Mayhem it reaches to sum up Howard Cosell's feelings at the end of his reign on MNF.
With snow falling onto the NY City Darkness Howard ventures out into the darkness with his dear Emmy at his side only to be slowed momentarily by a NYC cabbie stating to Howard "Hey Howard Tell it Like it Is Baby" to which of course Howard responds into the snowy Darkness "such is my nature"
truly a poignent moment and one in which "The Song is Over" Fits

I love my brother. | Reviewer: Larry Crabb | 6/14/13

This is not really a review of the song. This is just a statement that the Who was my brother's favorite band, and while he was lying in his hospital bed his kids were playing the who for him to comfort him. He said he had actually thought that if he ever found himself in the dire situation that he was in, that The Song is Over was the appropriate song for him. Very sadly, he passed away peacefully the next day.

Masterpiece. | Reviewer: Sadie | 7/19/12

I really don't know if I love more the lyrics, the magnificent music, the absolute harmony of strong Daltrey's voice and fine, melancholic Townshend's one. What I know is that this song has stolen my heart: a piece like this is impossible to forget.
"The song is over, I'm left with only tears. I must remember, even if it takes a million years": goosebumps.

Amazing | Reviewer: AE | 5/17/12

I've heard this song in the past, but never so strong did it strike me when this came on the radio this morning. It truly is one compelling piece of art. Strikingly beautiful and strong, it captures you and takes you into the song, The Who is truly one of the best, if not the best band ever to be devised.
