Iron Maiden The Legacy Lyrics

Last updated: 05/30/2012 06:15:54 AM

Tell you a thing
That you ought to know
Two minutes of your time then on you go

Tell tale of the men
All dressed in black
That most of them not coming back

Sent off to the war
To play little games
Upon their return there came no names

Some strange yellow gas
Has played with their minds
Has reddened their eyes and removed all the lies

And strange as it sounds
Death knows no bounds
How many get well only time will tell

Only time will tell

You lie in your death bed now
But what did you bring to the table
Brought us only holy sin
Utter trust is a deadly thing

To the prayer of holy peace
We didn't know what was lying underneath
So how could we be such fools
And to think that we thought you the answer

I can't begin to understand in all the lies
But on your death bed I can see it in you eyes
Just as clear as all the sweat upon your brow
It really makes sense I can see it clearly now

Tangled up in a web of lies
Could have been a way to prophesize
Unaware of the consequence
Not aware of the secrets that you kept

Nothing that we could believe
To reveal the fa├žade of faceless men
Not a thing that we could foresee
Not a sign that would tell us the outcome

You had us all strung out with promises of peace
But all along you cover plan was to deceive
Can it put to rights now only time will tell
Your prophecies will send us all to hell as well

Left to all our golden sons
All to pick up on the peace
You could have given all of them
A little least

Take the world to a better place
Given them all just a little hope
Just think what a legacy
You now...will leave

We seem destined to live in fear
And some that would say Armageddon is near
But where there's a life while there's hope
That man won't self-destruct

Why can't we treat our fellow men
With more respect and a shake of their hands
But anger and loathing is rife
The death on all sides is becoming a way of life

We live in an uncertain world
Fear understanding and ignorance is leading to death
Only the corpses are left
For vultures that prey on their bones

But some are just not wanting peace
Their whole life is death and misery
The only thing that they know
Fight fire with fire life is cheap

But if they do stop to think
That man is teetering right on the brink
But do you think that they care
They benefit from death and pain and despair

Extraordinarily Epic!!! | Reviewer: Jay | 12/4/11

i have to say that a lot of maiden songs are like short stories that drags you on a journey to listen until the song's last second( no band is near their style or excellence) and you won't get bored at all !!! in the lyrics: "fight fire with fire" is cheap, reminds me of a Metallica song with the same title, where that song's meaning is opposite to maiden's :P

Best lyrics, ever!! | Reviewer: Jack | 7/25/10

We live in an uncertain world
Fear understanding and ignorance
is leading to death
Only the corpses are left
For vultures that prey on their bones

This is the part that most distinguishes the music of other bands: They say exactly what everybody thinks knows, but have no words to say.
Up the Irons from Brazil!!!

just.. WoW | Reviewer: Kevin | 2/12/10

A GREAT ALBUM, THE BEST SONG ON IT | Reviewer: gustavo | 12/21/09

Is in my opinion the best song on Amatter of life and dath, is really brilliant, and the lyrics is incredible, all the acoustic guitars are perfect and the vocal interpretation of Bruce is exellent. This album is one of the best ones of Maiden, in fact their last three albums are great, but this is art.

WOW ! | Reviewer: Bobek | 10/17/09

Well, i mean for the whole album, it's definitely to be in their top bests! This song is really brilliant, goes similar to their best ever - Blood Brothers!(IMO)
The strangest thing is that i discovered this album just 3 weeks ago! I mean i knew they done it in 2006, but i've been lazy to search&listen to it cause i thought its nothing special since i've never heard any of the song been aired on radio or TV(except Different world), and nobody around me ever talked about it - people acting like its their worst album ever, plus i mostly spend my time listening to old ones(discovering something i missed).
This was really underrated album, but i'm glad that people are finally listening more and more of it, realizing that its actually EPIC!

Iron Maiden is back | Reviewer: matt | 3/6/09

I was a Maiden fan all of my high school and young adult years but with seventh son I felt that they departed what made them great. When Bruce and Adrian left the group I felt no need to listen any further. Last week I heard a song from this album and had to dig into it further. They are truely as good as ever. The Longest Day and The Legacy are my favorites, but the whole album is just as the old maiden, I can listen to it all day long and not get bored. Hearing that a new album is due late this year gives me one more thing to look forward to in this abysmal economic time.

Awesome | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/12/08

easily the best album since bruce reunited with maiden, it obviously isent up their with powerslave or number of the beast but is probably their best album since seventh son

the song itself is amazing however its guitar solo is a bit too short

Amazing | Reviewer: andrey | 1/26/08

No doubts, one of the best Maiden songs, catching up with Brave New World and Hallow be thy name. The lyrics are stunning and breathtaking. Can`t name no name comparable to this. A song that makes you think...

Incredible | Reviewer: Ash | 1/12/08

Why can't we treat our fellow men

this is the verse that i think got to everyone. Iron Maiden are incredible and this song is a masterpiece. and i also think its about WW1, also because of that event on christmas where they had a cease fire to sing, drink, socialise and play football together. amazing...

good point | Reviewer: john | 8/17/07

the thing about mustard, chlorine and phosgene is that if they did not kill outright, they could still kill later, as the latter two, and phosgene in particular had grimly shown, for with that gas, there was no effect for about a day after exposre, then the lungs would fill with fluid untill the person literally drowned.
docters are also known to have been affected by second hand musterd gas while doing autopsies on the victems of said gas.
