Steve Earle The Galway Girl Lyrics

Last updated: 09/14/2012 12:14:54 PM

Well I took a stroll on the old wild walk
Of the day -I-ay-I-ay-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay
And I ask you friend, what's a fella to do
Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
Down the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl

We were halfway there when the rain came down
On a day -I-ay-I-ay-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
On a fine soft day -I-ay
And I ask you friend, what's a fella to do
Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave it a twirl
then I lost my heart to a Galway girl

When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
Cause I've travelled around I've been all over this world
Boys I aint never seen nothin' like a Galway girl

Brazilian Man Loves it | Reviewer: Edilson Jacobson | 9/14/12

Hi, Folks! I'm a Brazilian Man and don't know much about Irish things, but one thing I know: I love Irish music and dances. The first time I heard this song was on Youtube played by a girl with a tin whistle. I love it since then. Hugs from Brazil....

I love her | Reviewer: J.R. Muhib Mctavish | 4/14/12

I am Bangladeshi and I don't think this song doesn't have a certain country to indicate."Galway Girl" is just a speech of word with the help of that Steve Earle express his feelings to someone he loved same we can do it for our loved ones.

Touched my irish heart | Reviewer: seabluejay | 3/27/12

I heard this song by Mundy and Sharon Shannon, and I was hooked!!I love it and it is a real sweet tune.
I liked the eyes were blue, part.
I seen the video of Mundy, and he does it best for me.
Cheers and here's to you:
Long live the Irish, and anyone else, even if you're just a wee bit irish!!

irish love | Reviewer: Raegan | 3/19/12

I love this song with a passion, my grandmother is from Galway bay and my grandfather was Welsh, they met and married against her familys wishes, and he used to sing this to her even though her eyes were green!
great memories and the best version is steve earles.

Not Irish! | Reviewer: Poppy | 12/30/11

I'm sorry, but there is literally nothing more annoying to Irish people (like myself, and everyone I know) than Americans who claim to be Irish by some stupid distant descent. Guess what, looking back a few generations, pretty much all your ancestors came from Europe as America is a relatively new country. Still, you are American.

@irishman | Reviewer: Erin | 7/24/11

Speaking as an American Irish gal,(both sides) I can tell you fella, the only way your gonna get this girl is to outsmart her. Change your life, maybe your look. Do the unexpected, interesting, not destructive things. She has known you since you were young. Most us Irish gals are pretty high spirited whether we show it or not. (Just make one of us mad) And we tend to look for the different when raised in the same environment, with same type of people all our lives, especially here in the USA.Where there is so much diversity. It's only when we get older we realize Irish men are the only ones that can put up w/us. LOL! Best of luck to ya lad. ;)

cry like an irishman | Reviewer: irishman | 4/11/11

im an irishman by birth and my family left ireland when i was just almost 21, ive been living in the U.S. ever since.same town my whole life.i met this girl in highschool, also irish and grew up the same time i met one of her four brothers.and one by one i got to know them all over the past 2 1/2 years.didnt even know who they were, just pure coincidence.she's almost exactly a year older than me.and she's perfect!the girl every man wants.she is all a man could ask for.truly, the most beautiful girl, woman, ive ever seen.perfect shape, guys you know what i mean.mid-shaded blue eyes, and long flowing-wavy dark red died now she really is my galway girl.she has the perfect smile, the perfect and cutest laugh,so much its contagous, always kind, and just plain fun.really all a man could want.and her looks, are those of a real women, and she tops it off by dressing the classy irish way.and she looked like that when she was have no problem spending the rest of my life with her.anyway...i saw a picture of her around christmas this past year, and i was struck.head over heels.i always knew she was sexy, but this was more.back in school i was, well just that, back in school.there was only one thing i cared about.but now...i knew what this feeling was for i had never felt it i realized how much i loved her.and how i never told when i can.i speak with her, crashed and burned the first the aw youre so sweet treatment.though i keep trying.occassionaly i try again.and get nowhere.she always has to i know irish girls are different,so i talk to her and treat her the way a lass would like.but still no effect.maybe its not meant to be.i dont mind as long as shes happy.if she doesnt love me she doesnt love me.but i still want her so bad.i dont get it,we have so much in commen.this song describes how i feel.she is truely my galway girl.and now i know what we would call that girl over here, the one that got away.guys take it from me,dont let her slip away.tell her what you feel, right from the beginning.i did.and now im suffering for it.seeing her with other hurts.dont do that to yourself.SARA,the one that got away.

Just Love It | Reviewer: Sharon Moran | 7/15/08

Spent a year on a working holiday in Galway, just loved this song and brought fine memories back to Aussie. Irish music made me understand so much more about the Irish, can't wait to go back. Still play it a lot.

PS- I Love You | Reviewer: Ailidh Gray | 7/13/08

I happen to be not Irish, I do apologize, but I am half Scottish and I think I've heard my Dad humming it around the house once or twice but for sure the first time I heard it was on PS- I Love You, and although Jeffery Dean Morgan and Gerard Butler do it a definate justice. I adore the Steve Earle version.

Fair Play Steve Earle | Reviewer: GalwayBoy | 10/22/07

Love this song. Have to admitt I hadn't heard of it until Mundy recorded it. Good to know Steve's visit to my hometown inspired him to write such a great tune. Pity the bitch ditched him :-) I also love Earle's use of phrases such as 'fine soft day'. Great Irish farming terminology there!
