The Finish Line Lyrics - Snow Patrol
Review The Song (6)
The earth is warm next to my ear
Insect noise is all that I hear
A magic trick makes the world disappear
The skies are dark, they're dark but they're clear
A distant motorcade and suddenly there's joy
The snow and ticker tape blurs all my senses numb
It's like the finish line where everything just ends
The crack of radios seems close enough to touch
Cold water, cleaning my wounds
A sad parade, with a single balloon
I'm done with this, I'm counting to ten
Bluest seas, running to them
I feel like I am watching everything from space
And in a minute I'll hear my name and I'll wake
I think the finish line's a good place we could start
Take a deep breath, take in all that you could want

This song to me reflects the serenity in losing a battle, but not having to fight anymore, and being able to just relax. The imagery of a wounded soldier, the distant victor's celebration, being able to give up and go home.
Maybe this is about retiring from the rat race, ("see everything from space")and seeing your life clearly from the outside without the pressures of the daily grind

This song makes me think of someone dying; call me weird, but it's what springs to mind. I imagine myself lying on the the ground drifting into death, however death has blessed me with itself. "The finish line is a good place to start", just makes me think that if im dying, its better, as if i shouldn't have even been born.
Hhah, i mean these other reviews are quite positive so it leaves me feeling like im making the song into something it shouldn't. But whatever, thoughts and opinions are amazing things. =]

i completely agree with the previous review, it does seem like a new period in someones life..
but.. the more i listen to it, the more i feel like it's about that point you get to, in the middle of a big mess, where you see the positive outcomes, and you feel at peace with yourself and situation, you're not afraid of any consequences heading towards you, you are living in that moment, and for that short space of time - nothing matters. the relaxing tone of this song really brings out the serenity and peace you may feel when you've stopped caring about an argument or negative situation..
love this song so much, and Snow Patrol were amazing live.

Just so beautiful song, so calm and so tender. I think this song is about new period in someone's life. Something important come to the end and you understand that your new life is starting. It's not frightful or sad - you feel only calmness and hope, and music and rythm can express it. You can't see yet what will your future bring, but you are sure - it will be OK - "The skies are dark, they're dark but they're clear". The main words are "the finish line is a good place we could start", it doesn't matter that something has ended, cause this end is a beginning of something better and new.

Awesome song, totally agree with you who made the first review, it's got such a peaceful sense to it... You just got to close your eyes and you're up in space! Don't really know what he meant either, guess it's pretty much to show how you feel when far from civilization, in peace, surrounded by nature and insects noises, so far from everything you feel like you're in space... Anyway, I love it! Snow Patrol foreva...

Woah... noone made a review for this song yet?..
Anyway -> I really enjoy putting this up and just close my eyes, I can't really figure out what he meant with this song tho. But for me it's just a reminder of a time when I used to play this a lot. :)
