The Afterlife Lyrics - Paul Simon

Review The Song (5)

After I died, and the make up had dried, I went back to my place.
No moon that night, but a heavenly light shone on my face.
Still I thought it was odd, there was no sign of God just to usher me in.
Then a voice from above, sugar coated with Love, said, "Let us begin".

You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.

OK, a new kid in school, got to follow the rule, you got to learn the routine.
Woah, there's a girl over there, with the sunshiny hair, like a homecomin' queen.
I said, "Hey, what you say? It's a glorious day, by the way how long you been dead?"
Maybe you, maybe me, maybe baby makes three, but she just shook her head...

You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.

Buddha and Moses and all the noses from narrow to flat,
Had to stand in the line, just to glimpse the divine, what you think about that?
Well it seems like our fate to suffer and wait for the knowledge we seek.
It's all his design, no one cuts in the line, no one here likes a sneak

You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.
You got to fill out a form first, and then you wait in the line.

After you climb, up the ladder of time, the Lord God is near.
Face to face, in the vastness of space, your words disappear.
And you feel like swimming in an ocean of love, and the current is strong.
But all that remains when you try to explain is a fragment of song...
Lord is it, Be Bop A Lu La or Ooh Poppa Do
Lord, Be Bop A Lu La or Ooh Poppa Do
Be Bop A Lu La

No gods, no masters | Reviewer: Not anonymous | 10/29/14

Good song---but it is not odd there is no sign of God. He is just another Zeus or Jupiter. All of those gods were fond of impregnating human virgins. It is not surprising that Mary claimed to be pregnant by the Jewish God. That was an easy excuse for getting pregnant without a husband. The Jews stoned young girls for having babies out of wedlock in those days, just like Muslims do today, so why not blame the pregnancy on god, just like people blame Katrina on him?

A SiGHT OF THE BEYOND | Reviewer: Jezza Belle | 6/11/13

It took me a few times of listening before I caught on. Paul's lyrics have always been a slice of life, simply put. The Afterlife is a slice of what I believe lies beyond and he captured it beautifully.

I'm going to have this song at my memorial.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty. I believe in words and music. I believe PAul Simon is a musical genius. Inspiring. There is one God, noses are all different, but all are beautiful.
I love this song...Graceland stands beside it.

"Afterlife" is FAB-U-LICIOUS just like Simon | Reviewer: Peggy | 8/27/11

I loved this song when I first heard about its brilliant, fun and somewhat poignant... very "Simon lyrics"! Later... when I finally heard the tune, its beat AND uniquely funny words... “Afterlife” WAS LOVE AT FIRST HEAR for me.

The greatest song ever sang... | Reviewer: Timmy devine | 7/3/11

This tune is so freaking catchy and shows
Pauls versatility in style, using world sounds, accustic guitar fx to modernize the production and simple electric guitar rifs influenced by the south Africans he jammed with gui galore. He keeps this tune simple with a sweet charming
Melody. I think the lyric is genius. When
Finished waiting in line to meet God there are no wor just a fragment of song

Be bob a Lu la just can't stop telling people about it singing it and I believe this is the best song ever
