That's Why I'm Here Lyrics - Kenny Chesney

Review The Song (9)

Well I ain't had nothin' to drink
I knew that's probably what you'd think
If I'd drop by this time of night
Remember way back when
I promised you I'd drop in
At one of those meetings down at the "Y"

They started talkin' about steps you take
Mistakes you make the hearts you break
And the price you pay
I almost walked away

You could hear a pin drop
When this old man
Stood up and said I'm gonna say it again
Like I do every week
For those who don't know me

It's the simple things in life
sponsored links
Like the kids at home and a lovin' wife
That you miss the most, when you lose control
And everything you love starts to disappear
The devil takes your hand and says no fear
Have another shot, just one more beer
Yeah I've been there
That's why I'm here

This old boy stood up in the isle
Said he'd been livin' a life of denial
Then he cried, as he talked about wasted years
I couldn't believe what I heard
It was my life word for word
And all of the sudden, it was clear

It's the simple things in life
Like the kids at home and a lovin' wife
That you miss the most, when you lose control
And everything you love starts to disappear
The devil takes your hand and says no fear
Have another shot, just one more beer
Yeah I've been there
That's why I'm here

I know for us it may be too late
But it would mean the world to me
If you were there when I stand to say

It's the simple things in life
Like the kids at home and a lovin' wife
That you miss the most, when you lose control
And everything you love starts to disappear
The devil takes your hand and says no fear
Have another shot, just one more beer
Yeah I've been there
That's why I'm here

OOH, I've been there
That's why I'm here

I cried when I first heard this song | Reviewer: Bruce L. | 12/9/13

I have been sober for 33 years and remember the first time I heard this song.....I wept for the entire song. The song explains exactly what AA is about...fellowship and hope. We(I) do not suffer from terminal uniqueness. Nice to know there are Literaly millions with the same story as mine. I have heard this song spoken at hundreds of AA meetings over the past 33 years.
Good work Kenny, you can be certain that you not only entertained millions but you sent a POWERFUL message that I am sure has saved many many good people.

im a recovering addict. when i say addict, it includes drugs and alchol. im an addict of all things, because (as we all know) the real problem is me.
anyway, this song takes me back and allows me not to forget where i came from and why i choose to attend my 12 step group everyday even with a little over a year clean. and remember where i came from and where this thing can take me if i let it is what an addict like me needs, to stay clean for another day.
thank you.

its my life in words | Reviewer: brian | 4/1/11

I'm not a alcoholic nor a drug abuser but this song is my life in words being a victim of abuse to often we hide what is hidden deep inside us by means of self medicating ourselves until its too late then you realize one day its not your fault and your not alone and you find yourself seeking help I'm in the process of getting rid of the devil in me its a long journey but I can do it this song still tears me up though as I have lost a woman who truely loved me and another who I truely loved along the way and I have 3 kids affected by my path of destruction it will all work out though this song will and has helped me

You tell my story!! | Reviewer: wayne gouliaski | 9/4/09

I am a alcoholic in Recovery with over a year Sober. I battle this addiction everyday. When I heard this song,Thats why I am here, It tells my story to the letter. My life when I was an active drinker for over 40 yrs. God bless you for this song,as it tells it as it really is!! I am in the fellowship, and it keeps me sober a day at a time!! Thank you so much, from a grateful recovering alcoholic!! Wayne G.

a song that helped me pull through | Reviewer: renee ray | 8/29/08

This song talks about overcoming alcohol addiction, however it helped me overcome a drug addiction. I heard it one night and thought of my little brother how i need to change my life before its too late.

another moving song by chesney | Reviewer: JulieW. | 8/11/04

Kenny sings this song beautifully and emotionally as only he can ,it's so touching, so real, the lyrics are raw emotion, pain and hope all mixed together.A wonderful song, and I'm sure so true for many people.
