Lovers' Leap

Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off.
Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes.
As the sound of motor cars fades in the night time,
I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right.
...And it's hello babe with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey my baby don't you know our love is true.

Coming closer with our eyes, a distance falls around our bodies.
Out in the garden, the moon seems very bright,
Six saintly shrouded men move across the lawn slowly.
The seventh walks in front with a cross held high in hand.
...And it's hello babe your supper's waiting for you.
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true.

I've been so far from here,
Far from your warm arms.
It's good to feel you again,
It's been a long long time. Hasn't it?

The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man

I know a farmer who looks after the farm.
With water clear, he cares for all his harvest.
I know a fireman who looks after the fire.

Can't you see he's fooled you all.
Yes, he's here again, can't you see he's fooled you all.
Share his peace,
Sign the lease.
He's a supersonic scientist,
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man.
Look, look into my mouth he cries,
And all the children lost down many paths,
I bet my life you'll walk inside
Hand in hand,
gland in gland
With a spoonful of miracle,
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary.
We will rock you, rock you little snake,
We will keep you sad and warm.

Ikhnaton And Itsacon And Their Band Of Merry Men

Wearing feelings on our faces while our faces took a rest,
We walked across the fields to see the children of the West,
But we saw a host of dark skinned warriors
standing still below the ground,
Waiting for battle.

The fight's begun, they've been released.
Killing foe for peace...bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang...
And they're giving me a wonderful potion,
'Cos I cannot contain my emotion.
And even though I'm feeling good,
Something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule.

Today's a day to celebrate, the foe have met their fate.
The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our warlord.

How Dare I Be So Beautiful?

Wandering in the chaos the battle has left,
We climb up the mountain of human flesh,
To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life.
A young figure sits still by a pool,
He's been stamped "Human Bacon" by some butchery tool.
(He is you)
Social Security took care of this lad.
We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower.
A flower?

Willow Farm

If you go down to Willow Farm,
to look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies,
like the fox on the rocks,
and the musical box.
Yes, there's Mum & Dad, and good and bad,
and everyone's happy to be here.

There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag,
he used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag.
The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick was an egg,
the egg was a bird.
(Fly away you sweet little thing, they're hard on your tail)
Hadn't you heard?
(They're going to change you into a human being!)
Yahoo, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese,
and wonderfully clean in the morning.

We've got everything, we're growing everything,
We've got some in
We've got some out
We've got some wild things floating about
Everyone, we're changing everyone,
you name them all,
We've had them here,
And the real stars are still to appear.

ALL CHANGE!

Feel your body melt;
Mum to mud to mad to dad
Dad diddley office, Dad diddley office,
You're all full of ball.

Dad to dam to dum to mum
Mum diddley washing, Mum diddley washing,
You're all full of ball.

Let me hear you lies, we're living this up to the eyes.
Ooee-ooee-ooee-oowaa
Momma I want you now.

And as you listen to my voice
To look for hidden doors, tidy floors, more applause.
You've been here all the time,
Like it or not, like what you got,
You're under the soil (the soil, the soil),
Yes, deep in the soil (the soil, the soil, the soil, the soil!).
So we'll end with a whistle and end with a bang
and all of us fit in our places.

Apocalypse In 9/8 (Co-Starring the delicious talents of Gabble Ratchet)

With the guards of Magog, swarming around,
The Pied Piper takes his children underground.
Dragons coming out of the sea,
Shimmering silver head of wisdom looking at me.
He brings down the fire from the skies,
You can tell he's doing well by the look in human eyes.
Better not compromise.
It won't be easy.

666 is no longer alone,
He's getting out the marrow in your back bone,
And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll,
Gonna blow right down inside your soul.
Pythagoras with the looking glass reflects the full moon,
In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a HIP brand new tune.

And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue,
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true,
I've been so far from here,
Far from your loving arms,
Now I'm back again, and babe it's gonna work out fine.

As Sure As Eggs Is Eggs (Aching Men's Feet)

Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours, in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean, as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.

There's an angel standing in the sun, and he's crying with a loud voice,
"This is the supper of the mighty One",
The Lord of Lords,
King of Kings,
Has returned to lead His children home,
To take them to the new Jerusalem.

Review about Supper's Ready

SPOILED | Reviewer: Dean | 3/20/2008
The first concert I ever saw was Genesis' Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour in 1975 at The Shrine Auditorium in Hollywood, CA. Sufficed to say, I was spoiled from that point on in my life. No concert I've ever seen since can compare to the music and feast for the eyes that Genesis dished out.

Only Saw Lamb Live | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/29/2008

Unfortuantely, I only saw The Lamb in concert with Peter Gabriel. On the way to the concert we were disappointed to hear that the band wasn't going to perform any of 'Selling England'. Lamb was amazing - the sets, the whole show. I did see the Seconds Out tour, and while I still enjoy Trick of the Tail, Genesis never really recovered from the loss of PG. At the time, Gabriel said, Genesis was always a combination of sweet and sour and now (without him) it was too sweet. As important as Gabriel was Steve Hackett, whoose guitar playing added a very interesting texture not found in bands of the time. The band always leaned too much on keyboards and without Steve, they were submerged in synthesizers, right at the time they were going out of fashion. Interesting to note, Peter Gabriel's first two solo albums were all about different textures - perhaps borrowing that feel from Steve.

Seldom equalled, never surpassed | Reviewer: Rich | 1/11/2008

This is mostly in response to Iron Cane: I saw Genesis with Gabriel in Toronto's Massey Hall during the Selling England tour. I was absolutely enamoured of Supper's Ready then (it was the closing number) and remain so today. I also saw the Ramones, incidentally, up-close-and-personal at the old El Mocambo bar in Toronto, and though I can picture Gabriel doing a good spoof of Joey Ramone, I don't think Joey could have pulled off anything like Supper's Ready. Not to denigrate either, but Bowie (at the time) and Queen were glam rockers, not prog rockers.

My interest in Genesis collapsed after Gabriel left (whereupon the lyrics started to suck), but all things must pass, and the boys had a good run of it.

    Purely Moving | Reviewer: Robert | 10/25/2007

I began listening to Genesis when I was in the Navy from 82-86. A friend on my ship introduced me to them on cassette tapes (remember them?). I would lie outside on the deck at night when we were at sea and listen to them. You can not imagine how spiritual and emotional this music is until you have let it take over your body and mind as you gaze at stars, coulds, and the moon. Thank you Genesis for giving me this gift which I still relish to this day.

Those mindblowing 70's | Reviewer: The Iron Cane | 10/5/2007

The early seventies were the time when the pseudo spiritualism and acid enhanced hallucinatory imagery of the late sixties came to it's apotheosis after being incited by Sergeant Pepper's and The Piper at The Gates of Dawn.
All these 'progressive' dinosaurs like Queen, Bowie, Yes, and tehir bluesy or hardrocking brothers Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heap and Black Sabbath wrote their own vision of the psychedelic apocalyps in self proclaimed ' prophetic' epic pieces stuffed with mystical and biblical references. Musically aranged in long stretched mini-symphonies in which bands would compete over complexity and bombastic illusions of grandeur.
Interesting music for those who had a clue about what these highbrow closetsnobs were on about, or for those who had enough acid dropped in their sacramental wine.
But in the end these megacompositions collapsed under their own weight, and the alienation between artists and their audience had inevitably to conclude in the ressurection of simplified (though not less intelectually challenging or musically inferior) basic rock 'n roll in the form of ' punkrock' as performed by The Ramones and Blondie in the US and the Sex Pistols and The Damned in the UK, around 1975.
This does however not mean that some of those early seventies monsters of rock didn't have their own unique charm and value, and Supper's Ready is certainly one of the most creative and innovative representatives of the genre. Especially ofcourse Peter Gabriel's presentation and sense of humor gives this compilation of unfinished songs and loose ends a completitive edge that will please audiences far into the armageddic future it pretends to portray. It is indeed a missed chance that the remnant members of Genesis failed to reunite with Gabriel and had the posibilty to perform this track to the ' We Can't Dance' and 'Collins solo' generations.

    End Times 2008 | Reviewer: J | 9/11/2007

The reason that this song is so powerful is simple, it was inspired from on high. God has used music to convey what is comming in 2008. Volcanoes will erupt in the USA and the country will be no longer be a nation, furthermore, at the same time Satan will be released from his earthly prison. Magog is the Ancient biblical name for the Russians. They will go to world war three with the Chinese. There will be Famine, pestilence, and disease. Those few that survive (144,000) will take the children under ground and begin a world under God's rule. All others must wait through the coming 1000 year period in limbo for a final chance to join God's Kingdom. The great lie that our souls are immortal has decieved the multitudes for the only way to acheive immortality is through Christ's example of sacrifice and love. So "You b b b better start doing it right, yes you better start doing it right!" Faith is not enough you must match your actions to your beliefs. There is only one true church "The Church of God" and the Catholic's will wear the mark of the Beast. I know I once was lost myself. Do not let the children be misguided be the Pied Piper.

    OK - Alright - "Supper's Ready" - Whew! | Reviewer: Bruce | 8/17/2007

Well... Having been a fan of the band since the early seventies and finding my appreciation continues to still grow, I have to say this song is truly one of the highlights of their career. For the Gabriel, Hackett era it shows the band coalescing into a band barely rivaled in the rock world. It showcases both the band and the lyrics at their best. Yes, lyrically Peter Gabriel was a bit metaphoric, but certainly in a brilliant way and his vocals just shine. This song is the prelude to the "Lamb Lies Down" album and spiritually it has great heart. Love the ending and it moves me everytime I hear it. Hope it does you as well.

Food, Glorious Food | Reviewer: Sian Jones | 8/13/2007

It certainly does illustrate what an insightful band Genesis was/is. I reckon the song's about an apocalyptic vision of the not too distant future where the masses are fed the stodge of religion whilst the world is ruled through Sacred Geometry, Pythagorean numbers, Golden Ratios, thesis and antithesis and syphoning off the natural resources from anyone who's not part of an (Zionist-Illuminati-Archon) elite group of people that have removed an essential piece of the existence 'pie' from the reaches of the masses (i.e. money). This elite group have also kept secret the true nature of humans' spiritual nature. Thus the masses have no insight into the effects of pigging out on food, alcohol and all the other outer senses. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Thus humanity ends up a mess of diseased animals with nothing better to do (even 3 University degress not enough to secure a job cos of supply and demand imbalance) than to eat. Led by the dulcet tones of the Pied Piper dressed up in symbolism as the Messiah, towards the New Jerusalem of No Money = No Life. And the masses are taught nothing of what the chemicals and unnatural food/drink they consume is doing to their physical and mental states.
But hopefully the above was just a bad dream after a particularly NASTY piece of cheese ......

    76 Tour | Reviewer: Don Shafer | 8/11/2007

I was there, Trick of the Tale tour, 76, Cleveland Colliseum. A very theatrical show still minus PG. Major major laser show to highlight the performance.
That live performance touched me to my soul like no other performance ever has. I was completely blown away and As sure as eggs is eggs brought to me the vision of Christ within the laser spectral cone which they used so well. I was in awe and so deeply moved that I cried.
This was before I knew the words of the song!

Rescue Remedy | Reviewer: The Pheonis Frejja | 7/3/2007

I adore this song SO much. It took me a long time to get into the older Genesis stuff, since I grew up listening to "We Can't Dance", but I'm so glad I have.

The old stuff has the magic of seeming utterly random (lyrically) but coupled with the most spiritually uplifting music. Of course, once you read the lyrics, you know they are actually there with a purpose, and not by random, but you know what I mean.

Most important for me is the last 2/3 minutes, especially the line:
"Can't you feel our souls ignite?"

This section could have been a song in itself, but having to wait (not that it's a suffrance!) for 20 minutes to get there really makes it feel like the end of a journey, purely uplifting.

And I think if ever I felt depressed, unloved or found my spirituality wavering, "As Sure as Eggs is Eggs" would revive me completely.

    And I'm not even Christian!
