Standing In The Doorway Lyrics - Bob Dylan

Review The Song (1)

Standing in the doorway of the shadow of a dark night,
Stood two figures living for love, with hope so bright
To make everything right;
While in the stillness of fascination like stardust sprinkling
Brightness into twilight, new hope for tomorrow
Was born from lonely sorrow.

Coming like a vision and leaving like the wind,
Not giving a trace of where it came from,
Or what might have been.
If only we knew our dreams would come true;
When we first met, our soul wouldn't forget
New hope shines like the stars sweeping away the blues.

Standing in the doorway of time,
All prophecy is being fulfilled, yours and mine;
Being joined to our soul mate like Adam and Eve,
Never to depart, never to leave….

Time is as nothing with the Lord,
Belief is the only ticket we need to get aboard.

We could stand in the doorway,
Till the morning dawn,
And the coolness of the damp air goes away
By that beautiful California ocean bay…
Waiting to hear and see
True love shining over the restless sea.

We could go for a ride
By each others side,
Holding hands in a new land,
Singing new songs of love and peace
That won't cease
Or just dream it to be as it may seem.

You penetrated my whole being
In the silent mysteriousness of your presence
Standing in the doorway like a song that we need to sing
That lost it's beginning
And doesn't have an end
Oh, my love, my friend.

You stood in the door way,
Freely pulling something from inside out of me;
It felt like our soul and spirit met,
In that distant night I can't forget.
On the California ocean bay
When you seemed so close, yet so far, away.

Standing in the doorway of the shadow of a dark night,
Stood two figures living for love, with hope so bright
To make everything right;
While in the stillness of fascination like stardust sprinkling
Brightness into twilight new hope for tomorrow
Was born from lonely sorrow.

"Standing in the Doorway" was first a poem, then a song.
It expresses the feelings of abandoned love, you thought was true.
Then, coming back to where you belong,
Hidden in the heart of a new love song.

Some people like to sing the blues
Do what you choose…What you think is best.
God never made two snowflakes or finger prints
To be like the rest.

We're all individuals with many different situations,
Of good or bad relationship connections;
What is good for one,
May not be good for some.

How could two walk together
Unless they be agreed,
This song is written especially for two hearts in one
Who didn't enjoy being freed.
