Keep the noise low.
She doesn't wanna blow it.
Shaking from head to toe
while your left hand does "the show me around."
Quickens your heartbeat.
It beats me straight into the ground.
You don't recover from a night like this.
A victim still lying in bed, completely motionless.
A hand moves in the dark to a zipper.
Hear a boy bracing tight against sheets barely whisper,
"This is so messed up."
Upon arrival the guests had all stared.
Dripping wet and clearly depressed,
he'd headed straight for the stairs.
No longer cool, but a boy in a stitch,
unprepared for a life full of lies and failing relationships.
(Up the stairs: the station where
the act becomes the art of growing up.)
He keeps his hands low.
He doesn't wanna blow it.
He's wet from head to toe and
his eyes give her the up and the down.
His stomach turns and he thinks of throwing up.
But the body on the bed beckons forward
and he starts growing up.
The fever, the focus.
The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell.
Die young and save yourself.
The tickle, the taste of...
It used to be the reason I breathed, but now it's choking me up.
Die young and save yourself.
She hits the lights.
This doesn't seem quite fair.
Despite everything he learned from his friends,
he doesn't feel so prepared.
She's breathing quiet and smooth.
He's gasping for air.
"This is the first and last time," he says.
She fakes a smile and presses her hips into his.
He keeps his hands pinned down at his sides.
He's holding back from telling her
exactly what it really feels like.
He is the lamb, she is the slaughter.
She's moving way too fast, and all he wanted was to hold her.
Nothing that he tells her is really having an effect.
He whispers that he loves her,
but she's probably only looking for sss...
(Up the stairs: the station where
the act becomes the art of growing up.)
So much more than he could ever give.
A life free of lies and a meaningful relationship.
He keeps his hands pinned down at his sides.
He waits for it to end
and for the aching in his guts to subside.
The fever, the focus.
The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell.
Die young and save yourself.
The tickle, the taste of...
It used to be the reason I breathed, but now it's choking me up.
Die young and save yourself.
Up the stairs: the station where
the act becomes the art of growing up.
The fever, the focus.
The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell.
Die young and save yourself.
The tickle, the taste of...
It used to be the reason I breathed, but now it's choking me up.
Die young and save yourself.

I can really relate to this song. The second time I had sex was with this attractive girl who I wanted more from. The first time was just to get it over with. We were at a party and she was the pushy one even though I initiated the make out and later she took off my pants. She just wanted sex and I wanted more needless to say it didn't work out. I have the view of only having sex with girls that I want a relationship with now but sometimes you're drunk and it happens. You just admit it was a mistake and go on.
This song reminds me of me at 15, I was going out with a girl for nearly a year, in that year I never touched her or wanted sex, my mates were ripping me on a daily basis because I hadn't "done" her, 1 night I stayed at her house, she wanted sex, I didn't, but I did it anyway, I enjoyed it, but I wasn't ready..... As it turned out I am gay, and very happily in a relationship, I love brand new, I have the words Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades, on my right arm, x

Ok,so this is a REALLy good song!Brand New is the best shit since The Almost or Underoath!
And actually, sex does mean love, true maybe not in these days and times, but for some people it could mean everything.I actually know a GUY,yes a male that thinks sex is like an invisible wedding ring,he wont have sex with anyone he doesnt love or wanna spend the rest of his life with.He thinks it's saying I love you this much kinda,if you know what I mean[& Not in the gross way] but in the way,I trust you with everything way. This guy has taught me so much. He's amazing and that's why I love him.:)
And no,we havent had sex,we are fourteen and he already thinks that way.Remarkable right?

I love this song and after so many years of listening to brand new I never really took the time to analyze and look into the lyrics. I knew what the song was about and my friends and I talked about it but today, I just really just read the words.
That's a pretty much powerful statement the song is trying to make and not mention the little story that describes it, its quite interesting. The video is even more amazing. I can never get enough of it.
Becky, if you can read English as poorly as you can type it, you would read..
"He is the lamb, she is the slaughter.
She's moving way too fast, and all he wanted was to hold her.
Nothing that he tells her is really having an effect.
He whispers that he loves her,
but she's probably only looking for sss..."
Next time you try to be the world's internet love and relationship counselor, it would help to read the material you're making a statement about..
So if you want to get technical about it, sex doesn't really have anything to do with love. You could go out and have sex with the first random person you see, so where's the love. So really, if the guy wanted it to actually be special, maybe he should've gotten a girl he loved, instead of a herpe-infested hoe.
i love how they switched it around and show a nervous boy's point of view lol but wow lyrics awesom-ness... i really feel for anyone who this happens to.... young people need to learn to respect thers desisions butttt then again who thinks in the heat of the moment... poor guy lol
but just look back and ... be sure your ready right ^_^ <3
AWESOME LYRICS!!!!

sic transit gloria fades lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/29/08
I think this is him talking about giving up his virginity when he wasn't completly ready to. Like he wanted it to be special but she didn't care, she just wanted sex, while he was trying to make it special. The meaning of this song is obvious, jesse lacey is the most amazing writer ever, and its an amazing song.
