Retrovertigo Lyrics - Mr. Bungle

Review The Song (14)

Before you advertise
All the fame is implied
With no fortune unseen
Sell the rights
To your blight
Time-machine

While I'm dulled by excess
And a cynic at best
My art imitates crime
Paid for by
The allies
So invest

Now I'm finding truth is a ruin
Nauseous end that nobody is pursuing
Staring into glassy eyes
Mesmerized
sponsored links
There's a vintage thirst returning
But I'm sheltered by my channel-surfing
Every famine virtual
Retrovertigo

A tribute to false memories
With conviction
Cheap imitation
Is it fashion or disease?
Post-ironic
Remains a mouth to feed

Sell the rights
To your blight
And you'll eat

Now I'm finding truth is a ruin
Nauseous end that nobody is pursuing
Staring into glassy eyes
Mesmerized
See the vintage robot wearied
Then awakened by revision theories
Every famine virtual
Retrovertigo

every musical piece by Mr Bungle has me looking like a fantasy.. i ride the fucking chair..the range, scope, feel...takes me to the live concerts and im gone :D epic brilliance

masterpiece | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/17/12

I agree, California is pure art, poetry, personally - and I'm a long time Patton's fan - I think Mike and Trevor make the perfect match, something really touching and immensely beautiful. This song - music&lyrics by Trevor Dunn - wouldn't be so touching and poetic with a different voice; this is Art. Complete and Perfect. Thats how perfection sounds, to me at least.

Pure Genius | Reviewer: Lovecraft | 6/18/12

I have to admit that I fall for anything Patton does, even Adult Themes, and my favorite tracks range across all the bands/projects he's been involved in.

That said, the combination of Patton, Trey Spruance and Trevor Dunn, aka Mr. Bungle, consistently produced some of the most interesting, goofy, and brutal music I've ever heard. Like most people I used to identify their self-titled debut as my favorite album of theirs, but parts of Disco Volante and almost all of California have since taken over. This song, Pink Cigarette, Sweet Charity...they never get old.

Still Loving It | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/5/11

I just came back to this album after a few years on the shelf, and it's really working for me still. With Mr. Bungle I used to disregard the words I couldn't hear as MP tends to go a little nonsensical at times, but when I found these lyrics, I hear this song with a new respect. Bungle fan 4 life!

Hey all,
This song baffles me. A beautiful song that with the right production probably a hit single. I know Patton won't normally give in to that type of thing - but I've always wondered about the potential of this song as a mainstream hit witht a few tweaks. Hey, why not bank a few million??

i love the lyrics to this song...i love the way they re sung by mike...and the drum sounds...ah, the drum sounds! so compressed and unexpected when they kick in on the bridge. there are only a hand-full of albums i can say have change my life & i can safely say "California" is most definitely one of them. thanks fellas!

OH MY GOD | Reviewer: robyn2fresh | 3/13/09

I really dig this song. It's got a chill tone but you can still really get into it.
I love Mr. Bungle in general though, maybe I'm bias.
But I do have to say, their best cd was their self titled all the way.
:D

One of the Best Artiest ever | Reviewer: mike jones | 3/7/09

One of "California"'s best, and a personal favorite, if you truly love music and havent gotten into Mr. Bungle, your in for a treat, their the most underrated band of all time, they truly made history with all there Cds. They werent restricted by genre, they did what they wanted how they wanted it, very experimental, CHECK OUT THE ALBUM "CALIFORNIA" if you like this song!

Probably the greatest song of all time. | Reviewer: Terry S. | 12/24/08

This song is not the "type" of song I usually would like. It has all the wrong elements but put together it works amazing well. The slightly out of tune steel guitar and low-fi electric organ suddenly explode into a tecno-esque cacophony of lows and highs. All the while with Pattons amazing vocal style. I have had this album for years and everytime I hear this song I STILL have to play it twice in a row.

kick ass | Reviewer: Joey D | 8/14/07

Yea, I finally heard this record for the first time this past week. What an incredible record, however, this is my favorite track right now. SO WELL DONE.

Wowmazing. | Reviewer: TheDude | 6/7/07

This is one of the greatest songs ever done, period. An wholly uncredited work of genius.
