Paths of Victory Lyrics - Bob Dylan

Review The Song (2)

The trail is dark an' dusty
The road is kind o' rough;
But the good Lord is waiting,
And boys He ain't far off.

Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles;
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.

I walked out to the valley,
I turned my head up high.
I've seen that silver linin'
That was hangin' in the sky.

Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles;
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.

The evenin' dusk was rollin',
I was walking down the track.
There was a one-way wind a-blowin'
And it was blowin' at my back.

Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles;
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.

The gravel road is bumpy,
It's a hard ol' road to ride;
But the clearer road's up yonder,
With the cinders on the side.

Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles;
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.

That morning train was movin',
The hummin' of its wheels;
Told me of a new day,
Coming across the field.

Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles;
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.

Listening to this song on Good Friday was one of the best parts of my day. Surely, no
matter how hard the road gets for us, it could not be any harder than what Jesus walked for us, on His way to Calvary.
I love the spiritual strength that is in the lyrics and his voice as he sings happily
with faith that there is a silver lining..."I walked down by the river,
I turned my head up high!
I saw that silver linin'
That was hanging in the sky."
I believe that the spiritual significance of "There was a one-way wind a-blowin',
"and it was blowin' at my back" is what Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth
and the light. No man comes to the Father but by me." That is because only
through Jesus' blood can our sins be paid for. He is "the Lamb of God who taketh
away the sins of the World". "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is ever
lasting life". "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. For God did
not send His Son to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through
Him" (John 3:16-17) HE Lives! Happy Easter. Thankyou, Bob Dylan, I love this song.

"The trail is dark and dusty, the road is kind o' rough, But the good Lord is waiting,
And boys it ain't far off." is the theme of Paths of Victory."The good Lord is waiting". What is Jesus waiting for? He is waiting for that last soul to be saved, before He comes, "Let your light shine before all men, so that they will see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. It is my will that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance. The righteous fear and depart from evil". (King James Holy Bible)
Surprisingly, the first version of Paths of Victory that Bob Dylan did is the best.
It is before they took the Lord's name out of it. You may find this version, (which has the same lyrics that are shown on sing 365) in Bob Dylan the bootleg series volumes 1-3 [rare and unreleased] He sounds so much like the country gospel singers...lyrics, music, and the way he sings this is excellently done, and I could feel the Lord's anointing on it! Thankyou, Jesus.
