One

Affirmative may be justified take from one give to another
The goal is to be unified take my hand be my brother
The payment silenced the masses sanctified by oppression
Unity took a back seat sliding further into regression

Chorus:

One oh One the only way is One
One oh One the only way is One
I feel angry I feel helpless, wanna change the world yeah..
I feel violent I feel alone, don't try and change my mind no..

Society blind by color why hold down one to raise another
Discrimination now on both sides seeds of hate blossom further
The world is headed for mutiny, when all we want is unity
We may rise and fall, but in the end we meet our fate together

Chorus:

One oh One the only way is One
One oh One the only way is One
I feel angry I feel helpless, wanna change the world yeah..
I feel violent I feel alone, don't try and change my mind no..
I feel angry I feel helpless, wanna change the world yeah..
I feel violent I feel alone, don't try and change my mind no..

I feel angry I feel helpless, wanna change the world yeah..
I feel violent I feel alone, don't try and change my mind no..
I feel angry I feel helpless, wanna change the world yeah..
I feel violent I feel alone, don't try and change my mind

Review about One

Impressive comments | Reviewer: Jane Q. Public | 11/16/09

If one really THINKS about the lyrics, I think it becomes apparent that all of the first three reviewers were correct. The song is actually very negative: it expresses not only futility of racism, but also cynicism and frustration at how government and society have chosen to deal with it.

"Affirmative Action", "may be justified"! But at the same time, it is taking from one, and giving to another. Which is also wrong on some level.

"The payment silenced the masses sanctified by oppression": minorities were elevated in status to a certain degree by affirmative action, but it also mollified them to a degree that was perhaps not warranted.

"Unity took a back seat sliding further into regression": Affirmative action never really satisfied anybody. It raised a lot of resentment with those who had to pay for it but can honestly say, "I am not discriminating, and I was not there in the past to oppress your ancestors." It is a failed policy and its failure has not been adequately addressed.

"Society blind by color why hold down one to raise another": This could be argued both ways. slavery and discrimination held down one to the benefit of the other. Today, affirmative action has in fact "held down" non-minorities in favor of minorities. Is reverse discrimination really justified? It is still discrimination.

"The world is headed for mutiny, when all we want is unity": I think this expresses the main theme of this song. One does not fight discrimination with discrimination, no matter which way it points. The only answer is to get rid of it. Let it go.

the song one | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/8/09

actually guys
this is a song about racism and i think the noun "One" would represent the meaning of uniting..without hate or discrimination of color or backround..but to love each and one another as one person.reminds me of 9/11 too

a cynic | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/2/09

personally...I feel it is reflective of humanity as a whole...presenting our nature to take from those around us for our own gain rather than reach our hands out in aid and comfort...as for what one is i'll leave that to your interpretation

One, oh One | Reviewer: Mike | 1/31/09

If none of you noticed, "One" is capitalized every time. Meaning...it's a proper noun. Most likely a name. Creed was known for its Christian lyrics, regardless of whether or not Stapp liked being called a Christian rock band. It's talking about how God's the only way we can get everything straightened out...

Second interpretation I'm seeing is how affirmative action doesn't work, but rather is government endorsed racism towards the majority.
