On and On Lyrics - Erykah Badu

Review The Song (100)

Ohh, my, my, my
I'm feelin' high

My money's gone
I'm all alone
To much to see, the world keeps turnin'
Oh what a day, what a day, what a day

Peace & blessins' manifest
With every lesson learned
If yo knowledge were yo wealth
Then it would be well earned
If we were made in His image
Then call us by our names
Most intellects do not Believe in God
But they fear us just the same

Oh On & On and On &On
My cipher keeps movin' like a rollin' stone
Woo On & On and On &On
Allnight till the break of dawn
I go On & On and On &On
My cipher keeps movin' like a rollin' stone
Ooohhh On & On and On &On
God damnit I'mma sing my song

I was born under water
With three dollars & six dimes
Yeah, you may laugh
'Cuz you did not do yo math
Like one, two, three
Damn, Ya'll feel that?
Like one, two, three
The world keeps turnin'
Oh what a day, what a day, what a day

The man that knows something
Knows that he knows nothing at all
Does it seem colder in yo summer time
And hotter in yo fall
If we were made in His image
Then call us by our names
Most intellects do not Believe in God
But they fear us just the same

Oh On & On & On & On
My cipher keeps movin' like a rollin' stone
On & On & On & On
Allnight 'till the vultures swarm
I go on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on
My cipher keeps movin like a rollin stone
Buu On & On & On & On
Mad props to the god Ja'Born

I'm feelin' kind of hungry
'Cuz my high is comin' down
Don't feed me yours
'Cuz your food does not endure
I think I need a cup of tea
The world keeps burnin'
Oh what a day, what a day, what a day

You rush into destruction
'Cuz you don't have nothing left
The mothership can't save you
So yo ass is gon' get left
If we were made in His image
Then call us by our names
Most intellects do not Believe in God
But they fear us just the same

Oh On & On & On & On
My cipher keeps movin' like a rollin' stone
Doh on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on-on
You can't fuck wit' me, so just leave it alone
Ooh way On & On & On & On
My cipher keeps movin' like a rollin' stone
Oh On & On & On & On On
And On & On

response to 360 degress | Reviewer: Paige | 8/19/13

shes talks about the meaning of the song at her performance for mtv unplugged. shes saying a cipher means a completion which could be represented by a circle going 360 degrees. The bit about being born under water is referencing the womb. and she was complete in 9 months represented by $3 and six dimes or 360 degrees. She was not broke, she was complete. heres the link of her explaining it live, its at the end. http: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL_yVeTEzIM

plus pisces is at the end of the astrological wheel and represents death and with death comes rebirth. so her cipher movin like a rollin' stone is the constant cycle of death and rebirth.

BOOM!

Just a small decipher | Reviewer: Fif | 4/7/13

I believe the born underwater line is an astrological reference . She is a pisces. The water sign which is the last stage in the astrological progression or in a circle the 360th degree. The end if the journey. The end of the circle.

Love and Light Heart Beyond the Mondane | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/6/13

Religion is the greatest dividing mechanism in the world... and it is man made... the creator gave us life and there for God is in us all whether we accept it or not.. when you stop breathing your breath ruach Respirar...spirit returns to its maker and I am not afraid of what made me I am more fearful of those who think they know what they know not.. the more you know the more your realize even with dedicated research... no 1 really knows it all but guess what we all need love.. we all need food.. we all need shelter we all get afraid we all feel love and we all know that there is something not quite right because we get uneasy and even angry and volatile when someone doesn't agree with what we've been taught... God is... with or without religion that being knows all it's creations... peace with a light heart people... Erykah is a good person and she has feelings just like you...favored she is for not being afraid to access what's in us all LIGHT>>>

I was born under water,
With 3 dollars and 6 dimes.

Yeah you might laugh,
Cause you did not do our math...

Anyone come up with this meaning?

360 degrees is the measurement of the circle, which is divine in itself, representing the yoni, and the mother and birth, water, and creation spirit.

...after that, I'm stuck.

I just want to commend Venom on his breakdown. I researched these lyrics because I wanted to know the REAL meaning of her words. I'm just looking for the answer to some questions I have. The hardest part about this search is finding a start but I think this song lyric (and some of these reviews) have led me to a solid starting point.

Who Are You Really Serving | Reviewer: Venom | 1/1/12

We as a people are afraid of that in which we don’t understand. I find it sad to believe, however history proves this to be true- CHRISTIANS have been the most finger pointing, judgmental CULT since the beginning of time. (Not to mention the fact that they stole their symbolism(s) and practices from PAGANS! To add insult to injury, I think back to all of the women that we lost due to being accused of practicing witchcraft, being a witch, warlock. Jesus himself was accused of being a warlock. Ironic isn’t it. “Those good ole church folk”
You are on this site, blasting Erykah Badu as if her belief is WRONG and yours is Right.
I will first explain to you as she and I are one of the same! She is in tune with her spirit and her inner woman. She had to do this first in order to become the person she is today.
She is aware and knowledgeable of TRUE HISTORY of us as a people. Instead of you seeking knowledge and feeding your spirit wit h real spiritual food and not the food disbursed to you by “THEM” as your ancestors did- you accepted it kindly and graciously.
I am not sure of what spirit you have within you and I am not aware of what your belief is, however I will say this, if your belief isn’t from studying, and knowledge then it isn’t a belief, it’s a habit. You have been brainwashed and are spiritually stagnant, while being historically blinded, and sociologically conditioned.
Erykah links the government with religion as it is man made, controlled, and false. It is also the reason why it’s noted as separation of church and state.
Since you are beginner at head start level, proven by posting such horrendous, bogus detail on the internet, exposing ignorance to the world, I will help you and lead you to the water, yet I can not make you drink of it. Research it- if you are too lazy to do that as I doubt, as you weren’t too lazy to post something you know NOTHING about and have the odesity to blame ignorance on God and the Holy Spirit, I will volunteer to also provide you with reading information and video information as you are ONLY relying on the Bible, one of which was TRANSLATED by King James, A Gay man.
Kemetics is a great place to attempt your learning. Also, I recommend that you watch Hidden Colors. Also, research our hidden history being stored within the Vatican!
If we knew the truth about who you are and from whence you came, your views would change and perhaps you could come out from inside that little box you are trapped in.
Christianity was stolen from Paganism
Horus existed before Jesus and has the SAME story as Jesus, and he wasn’t Caucasian just as Jesus wasn’t!
All Holidays including CHRISTMAS was derived from MAN, Paganism and Heathens.
Jesus wasn’t born in December. Try determining where astrology and the calander originate from.
Also Thanksgiving was a named holiday by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln- the purpose was to have a great feast celebrating the MANY Indian families they slay, killed, murdered, stole from, rapped, and enslaved. Bet you cook a right nice fat turkey on thanksgiving don’t you and most likely enjoy SWINE (pork) right along with it, and then you have the nerve to use the term blasphemous. Try using the word “Slave mentality!”
Anything that has to do with Blackness is labeled as evil, yet anything to do with White is accepted as pure! We as a people are
warriors! Our ancestors worshiped and practiced what we are supposed to be practicing before it was stolen, changed, lied about and converted into evil. Erykah is aware of this, as am I! People as yourself are the reason history was never reversed, yet people as yourself are the ones who do nothing but sit back and complain regarding oppression- just sitting back waiting on Jesus, I suppose. How ironic!
Start studying to find yourself so that you refrain from disrespecting yourself as you have done by disrespecting Erykah, history, culture and spirit. ALSO There is a difference in religion and spirituality.
Blessings and Peace Unto you. May you find the light- The TRUTHFUL one! Selah…
Peace, Venom

First I have to say I am a big big big fan of Erykah Badu. I dont understand people have to take music all out of content and not just open their mind to the understanding of the true meaning to what the "artists" is saying.
I was born under water
With three dollars & six dimes" Im going to keep it short...LIFE 9mos in the womb under water a cycle that ever be broken.

DUH OH!!! | Reviewer: sasoy | 10/16/11

if she wanted you to know what she was talking(/singing) about... she wouldn't be so cryptic about it... the thing that makes the song so beautiful is that there are many interpretations to the song... to say that any one interpretation is more correct than the other is misguided, the only person that could do that would be the writers... they wouldn't do that co'z that would take the shiz out of everything

They Fear Us Just the Same | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/26/11

It is important to know that before civil rights, racism against black people in this country (America) was justified using the bible, so when she says "most intellects do no believe in God, but they fear us just the same" I think she is saying that even the people who couldn't justify their racism with their religion (e.g. in some obscure and conveniently chosen passage from the bible dark skinned people from the East are referred to as the "descendents of Cain" and therefore are evil, nowadays, people use this passage to refer to the people in the Middle East). So those racist people who justified their fear with their religion (just as people are doing with homosexuals today) aren't the only one's who were racist, even the atheists who could find no such justification were racist.

You Guys are Idiots- Correct Verse Interpetation | Reviewer: Kay Hudson | 6/18/11

I purposely googled this song just to see if anyone would nail the lyrics right on the spot -or- dramatically (and foolishly) misinterpret what she was saying.

Here's a CORRECT interpretation of what she means of the following verse:

If we were made in His image- she is obviously referring to the fact that
blacks were the first humans on earth, created as a direct representation of god, being the first people on the planet.

Then call us by our names- she is talking about how blacks have been systematically excluded and degraded/targeted with racism, yet we are a direct image of god, and should be acknowledged exactly what we truly are, hence "call us by our names"

Most intellects do not Believe in God
But they fear us just the same-

This is the easiest part of the verse to understand, yet it seems just about EVERYONE misinterpreted it, it was so annoying to read everyone's idiotic responses, like hello ? , how can ppl (especially blk) misinterpret "they fear us just the same"

...and no, she is not talking about "us" all being god's children in a battle against "them". She is specifically referring to the mistreatment of blk ppl in society.

Basically, what she meant was:

A lot of times, people will hear a (psuedo, Because "the man who knows something knows he knows nothing at all" lol.) intellects will proudly state that they are atheist, and don't believe in god.

This is where Erykah incorporates sarcasm lol, when referring to these white psuedo-intellects

because often times these ppl will be so bold to state how they don't believe in a "god", but seconds later when they're walking to their car in an alley/parking lot, they will be scared as heck when encountering a black person, god's children, hence "they fear US just the same"

How can any black person over 18 misinterpret this ?

it's so clear what she means, but hope this helps for ppl who didn't understand this.

Just Stop It | Reviewer: JovaunHardinFaceBook | 4/28/11

People Need to Understand the Difference Between "Religions" and the Creator.

First off, If Jesus Christ Walked the Earth Today, He Would Not Know What Christianity IS! He Never Asked to Be Worshiped as God. He Said "Do Not Worship Me, Worship the Father in Heaven". He Only Taught Us to Love One Another and Follow the Father's Commandments. I DARE YOU To Find a Place In the Bible that Says Jesus Is to be Worshiped as God. Find a Place that References Him as the "Son of God" and not the "Son of MAN". Find a Place Where He Says He is God. I'll Wait.........

While We Continue To Fight and Argue Over What His Name Was, What Color His Hair Was, and Whether You Are Supposed to Worship On Friday or Sunday - Who Is Focusing On What He Taught? Who's Loving Their Neighbor? Who's Following the Father's Commandments?

You Can Only Teach Out of Love, and Love is All that Needs to Be Taught. God is Love, God Wants Us to Love. If We All Love One Another as Though We Were Loving Ourselves, We Would Be Living In the World the Father Intended Us to Live In. No One Would Let Another Go Hungry, No One Would Murder, No One Would Enslave Another...

Religion is Nothing More than What MAN Says About our Creator... ALL RELIGIONS and Corresponding Books Were Deliberately Created In Several Different Languages With Slight Alterations to Cause Endless Fighting and War Between the Masses and Forever Prevent the Unity of All Races and Creeds, Which Is What We Need.

If Man Never Said ANYTHING About the Creator, He Would Still Be There, Still Be Watching, and STILL Want Us to Love One Another. Teach People How to Love One Another, and Everything Else Will Fall Into Place.

stop judging | Reviewer: Ashley | 11/21/10

Ericka Badu is a great artist. While it is true artist(in all sorts) throw hidden messages in all kinds of works that doesnt mean she is tring to decieve you. As a matter a fact she is clearly stating what she believes and that doesnt give anyone the right nor privlage to throw stones. What ever the case Black or White it doesnt matter, repect all and love all. Judge accordingly to what you feel is right or wrong dont pass judgements because you dont understand. And maybe thats what she is saying you fear what you dont understand. and the world goes on & on regaurdless of what YOU think. thanks xoxo there is only one God...and we are like mini gods and goddesses because we are created in his image but the bible (man made) also says we should put no God before him, he comes first, but oviously if we make ourselves gods we couldnt possibly compare to him, but we are what we make ourselves. We are what we eat, eat knowledge, feed.....open your mind, and stop fearing because thats what the self appointed enlighted ones want you to do. the knowledge is there for all to eat, if u seek you shall find. eat. just alittle food for thought.

wow. | Reviewer: jb | 11/11/10

i just wanted to point our how hilarious it is that one can be so sure their god is the one and only and so sure noones elses is.. "religions are always false, unless they are your own." the reality is, we do not know, you do not know, and you are wasting your life by living for something that you can only try to believe may possibly be true. all this talk about doing research and understanding what you are listening to, reading, and believe.. however, you all obviously do not do that on your own or would not waste your time as i have mentioned. its sad. religion is what is wrong with our world. figure it out.
