Review The Song (27)Print the Lyrics
If I had to lose a mile
If I had to touch feelings
I would lose my soul
The way I do

I don't have to think
I only have to do it
The results are always perfect
But that's old news.

Would you like to hear my voice
Sprinkled with emotion
Invented at your birth?

I can't see the end of me
My whole expanse I cannot see
I formulate infinity
and store it deep inside of me

If I had to lose a mile
If I had to touch feelings
I would lose my soul
The way I do

I don't have to think
I only have to do it
The results are always perfect
And that's old news

Would you like to hear my voice
Sprinkled with emotion
Invented at your birth?

I can't see the end of me
My whole expanse I cannot see

(x2)
I formulate infinity
and store it deep inside of me

you obviously don't know what you're talking about if you're trying to decipher this song. Even if this is a Meat Puppets song, Kurt hated it when people tried to find meaning in songs. and i think he's right, songs should be open ended, unfinished. not scrutinized, torn apart, and then reassembled to the whims of petty fans like you and me.

and G&R are sub-par to Nirvana. hardly a comparison at all. they do painful covers of great songs. Knockin' on Heavens Door was an amazing ballad by Mr. Bob Dylan, and it was raped by G&R.

I never put anything on this site intil now. For "Red". | Reviewer: Tim | 12/2/09

First of all your getting Hippy mixed up with emo in which we all are unless your a robot because emo only means emotional, nothing more.
Also, Slash and GnR were assholes that (even you said) did more drugs and drinking and you think they are still better then kurt and nirvana.
Kurt was also a very great song writer. It is true some of his lyrics don't make sense, he wanted it that way because he was trying to say something. But when he did write songs with meanings (which was frequent) they were a lot deeper than any good ol' GnR songs.
I know you said to not to respond but when you go on and be A douche and diss a pretty much all around nice guy who achieved a lot more than you most likely will, if you become insanely famous I will apologize.

WTF? | Reviewer: The 13 Year Old Hippie | 11/2/09

Come on! do not put so much head in the thing! Smells is a freaking good song, it doesn't matter if has sense or not. Kurt is, easyly, a fucking amazing singer. This is a cover of Meat Puppets, like Lake of Fire and Plateau. In my opinion, they're fucking much better.
If he won money? Sure he did, but we dont care about it. Why? cuz we only hear the music, we dont care if the guy buy expensive clothes, or whatever. Enjoy the music, that's it.
I dont understand why the people even take the work to say bad things about something. If u dont like it, well just dont hear it. We dont care you'r opinion Mister Critical.
Seriously.. save your words to someone that really cares about them, Mister I'm Better Than Everybody. If you think too smart, you are just speaking poor Bulshit, ok?
With the terrible small speech of the one that knows everything you only stay as the joke in the group of fans.
The problem is that he killed himself?
So what! Is his damn life, if he wanted to end with it, he just could.
Deal with it, WE DONT CARE YOUR FUCKING OPINION, OKAY?
With love, the hippie that wont be able to sleep 2nite.

there is a reason he didn't want sum people lsitening to his songs namely the kids that picked on him like the football team but I'm talking about douche bags all together. every single one the popular and un popular ones.

C'mon people, don't read so deeply into this," I don't have to think, I only have to do it, the results are always perfect, but that's old news." He's simply talking about shooting heroin as he does in roughly half or more of the songs on UINY.

OH ME | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/10/08

is not kurt cobains song.
It's a cover. it's kurt and kris kirkwod (i think they spells like that) from Meat Puppets. Oh Me, Plateau and Lake Of Fire is Meat Puppets songs. and they are plaing guitar and bas in those tgre songs in Unplugged.

To me, 'Oh Me' means being sarcastically in awe of yourself, being humbly in touch with your mastery. You juggle ten balls at once without thinking. "I don't have to think, I only have to do it. The results are always perfect, but that's old news".

I find it romantic analysing words sung by dead dude, especially ones dealing with afterlife. "I can't see the end of me. My whole expanse I cannot see." I suspect a man with a deathwish might be entertaining the possibility of afterlife. Where do I go next? Will I be me when I get there?

"If I had to lose a mile. If I had to touch a feeling. I would lose my soul the way I do. Would you like to hear my voice sprinkled with emotion invented at your birth?" I think these lines deal with how the ego buys into feeling and emotion, losing touch with the natural self (soul). Losing a mile could refer to caring about ones place in the rat race, which would be buying into a win/loss, karmic consciousness. When you take away ego you are left with an infinite, bottomless pit of possibility and capacity. "Formulate infinity, stored deep inside of me." Reminds me of the Tool lyric, "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment and remember we are eternal, and all this pain is an illusion."

About the lyrics | Reviewer: Flamur | 8/22/08

If I had to lose a mile
If I had to touch feelings
I would lose my soul
The way I do

in this part Cobain says that he would lose his soul the way he did (singing this song always makes you to feel it less because you become the feeling and you don`t have to feel it couse you`re the feeling ) to make you feel, and if you feel it and sing it you become the feeling itself so you don`t feel it anymore ,he intended to make us like him.

I don't have to think
I only have to do it
The results are always perfect
But that's old news <-----

the second part tells us that things can be done only if u do them ,without thinking, and the results of that can be perfect

Would you like to hear my voice
Sprinkled with emotion
Invented at your birth?

I can't see the end of me
My whole expanse I cannot see
formulate affinity
Stored deep inside me

this part tells us that he didn`t know the end himself, and he formulated infinity and stored inside and this means he will never die after dying

(x2)
Formulate affinity
Stored deep inside me
