No woman no cry Lyrics - Bob Marley

Review The Song (15)

No, woman, no cry
No, woman, no cry
No, woman, no cry
No, woman, no cry

Said said
Said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
Oba, ob-serving the hypocrites
As they would
mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have had,
Oh, good friends we've lost
along the way
In this great future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears, I say

No, woman, no cry
sponsored links
No, woman, no cry
Ee little darling, don't shed no tears
No, woman, no cry

Said, said,
Said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was log wood burnin' through the night
Then we would cook corn meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
But while I'm gone, I mean...

Everything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright

So woman, no cry
No, no, woman,
No, woman, no cry
Oh, my little sister, don't shed no tears
No, woman, no cry

I remember when we used to sit
In a government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was log wood burnin' through the night
Then we would cook corn meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
But while I'm gone...

No, woman, no cry
No, woman, no cry
Woman, little darling, say, don't shed no tears
No, woman, no cry
Yeah

Little darling don’t shed no tears
No, woman, no cry
Little sister, don’t shed no tears,
No, woman, no cry,

"No Woman, No Cry" is a reggae song by Bob Marley & The Wailers. The song first became known in 1974 through the studio album Natty Dread. The live version from the 1975 album Live! is perhaps best known — it was this version which was released on the greatest hits compilation Legend. The original demo version of the song which is unreleased was a Gospel version. This version had only the piano riff as the main instrument and was recorded in London for Island Records in 1973 with Peter Tosh and some unknown female backing singers.

At the same time of this recording, the demo of the Island version of "Lively up Yourself" was recorded. This was the last time all three original Wailers (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Neville "Bunny" Livingstone) recorded together in a studio. This version too is unreleased. From Wikipedia

I love this song Bob Marley was a great songwriter and musician his music penetrates your being and takes you to a better place. His music has got me through many difficult times over the years. I use his words "Everything's gonna be alright" as a mantra whenever things get tough and it always lifts my spirit.

Thanks Bob RIP

Bob Marley is truly a genius. His music really puts you in a whole other world, and i think this song does it the best. It's really like he knew something everybody else didn't. I still get chills every time i listen to this song. It's just perfect. It's weird how his music can really suck you in and match your mood to the mood of the son. Very powerful and talented musician, and we lost him far too soon.

Still great | Reviewer: Kevin M | 11/7/12

I am someone who listens to all kinds of music; Bach, Eminem, Led Zeppelin, you name it. Bob Marley is right up there with the historic greats of music, both as a singer and a composer/band-leader. Just because he is not to your personal taste does not diminish his achievements.

Love Bob's MUSIC, especially 'Redemption Song' | Reviewer: Amy B | 10/22/12

Bob made good music and such trends cannot be rated in terms of language proficiency because the words suffice to move even wood.

Bob like Michael and Whitney are priceless phenomenal singers and artists whose musical trends sooth every generation as time unfolds. The words pierce and touch the soul for transformation. The lyrics are soft spots calling people to look before they leap; stand by their rights, but most of all carry the canopy of LOVE. You know in Love and with LOVE, all abounds to nothing.
With Love, no place for hate, conflict, envy, jealousy, corruption, misappropriation of public funds, uncivic practices and every degrading and dehumanising aspect. Love breaks all boundaries. Music is a language that trancends the souls of every human being, Be it English, Swahili, Spanish, French, Chinese....
Good Music is not understood, It is felt; It provokes energy and sensation from every human being. You know even satan passes through music to get his preys.

He who criticizes bob's music has no flare for taste.
I invite you to listen to his albums again.
I don't get tired and will always feel the urge to be inspired by his songs.

I love and Miss Bob;I hope Bob has warmly received Michael and Whitney to make an angelic choir up above.

It's the Simplicity of the Song the makes it so Great | Reviewer: The Gay Singer Songwriter | 2/2/12

The Songs you can chant and tell a story that is universal to a people's struggle or life is truly Iconic. And only an ignorant lover of all things pop could totally miss that. Bob Marley wrote for a people not just himself. Liberation and Redemption, Peace and if need be action. And it was the fuel for a lot of the socialist movements throughout the world. Your opinion is so small and so self centered that you lack the vision that keeps racism alive. Give honor when honor is do... A legend doesn't have anything to prove his memory will outlast you and your words.

Your comment is one of the stupidest I have ever read in my life. You are absolutely entitled to dislike Bob Marley and Janis Joplin all you want, be my guest. But to try to objectively define what is good and bad music based on your own personal opinion is simply retarded. Music taste will always be subjective. You basically state that people who like Bob and Janis are wrong because you don't like their music. Both Bob's and Janis' music have stood the test of time. New listeners, people who weren't even born at the time their music was composed, come across their work and are fascinated with it. If anything, THAT is an objective criteria of what is good and bad music. Hate Bob and Janis all you like, but don't piss on the people who enjoy their music, you bitter twat.

...wow, you really haven't listened to much Marley have you? The rastas don't need "basic English," if you read about his culture before you ranted making yourself look like a fool, you would realize that rastas take out whatever is negative. They say 'iditate' instead of 'meditate' because meds aren't what people need to connect with the source, Jah. They say 'overstand' rather than 'understand' because no one is beneath us. We are all equal. You dont tell the Muslims to speak English... If a big Japanese POP singer had a decent hit worldwide you would make him translate it... Wow.. idk man you kind of sound silly with the way you talk. Idk why you are even looking up lyrics to someone you don't like. No one is forcing you to listen. And honestly your negative attitude is a bit of a downer. Bob Marley was a beautiful soul. Go listen to what he has to really say, read about him. Please. After you have done your research if you still believe that way, then so be it. But don't hate on others because we get it. :) it is okay that you live your life the way you do. So let go of others and just focus on you man. I'm sure you aren't perfect yourself... Love n light to all.
Bless.

I never understood the apparent blind fascination with Bob Marley.
Wow....I get it you never understood. Maybe just read about who he is, what he wrote about and his take on reggae. And he should have learned basic English....Wow....I never understood racism.
And Janis had a horrible voice....music that stands the test of time, stands the test of time for one reason alone...it is still good to listen to...not becuase people were blind, or stoned, or what. If this music was no good....it would not be talked about. God, that comment made me sick.

What's the big deal? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/25/11

I never understood the apparent blind fascination with Bob Marley. He always seemed mediocre at best. You'd think he'd have learned to speak basic English, or write lyrics that meant something to someone other than him. But to each his own, I suppose. I can't help but wonder how many people who proclaim he's legendary, his music changes lives, and so forth are just parroting what they've heard people say -- people from back when Marley was a live. It's the same thing with Janis Joplin, when people rave about how she had the greatest voice in the world -- no, she didn't, she had a terrible voice. If you were young and into that scene when Janis was around, she probably seemed great. She wasn't. Neither was Bob. I bet it's all the pot everyone was smoking that made them think he and Janis were IT. At least they won't be penning and singing any more bizarre lyrics. (But, hey, at least Marley's voice was good -- unlike the grating agony of Joplin's.)
