He grew up around poor folks, black and white, in Ohio, had a black cell-mate, shared an apartment with a black man and had a black man in his band for several years. DAC wrote this song in the late 70's when racism was still particularly fierce in some parts of the country, to hold a mirror up to certain of the people in his circle of accquaintance; the name of the album was "Nothing Sacred", and it made fun of all sorts of taboo subjects and disgustingly funny quirks and weakenesses that people just have. This is one of those quirks; this is one of those taboos. Lighten up!
