Never Say Good Bye Lyrics - Bob Dylan
Review The Song (2)
Twilight on the frozen lake
A north wind about to break
On the footprints in the snow
Silence down below.
You're beautiful beyond words
You're beautiful to me
You can make me cry
Never say goodbye.
Because my dreams are made
Of iron and steel
With a big boquet of roses hanging down
From the heavens to the ground.
The crashing waves roll over me
As I stand upon the sand
And wait for you to come
Grab hold of my hand.
Oh baby, baby, baby blue
You'll change your last name too
You turned your hair to brown
Love to see it hanging down.

"Twilight on the frozen lake" twilight signifies that something is about to happen like light disappearing into night. "on the frozen lake" means things have been standing still. "A north wind about to break" is his anticipation for a change..."on the foot prints in the snow" means when the wind blows (which may also, mean when the Holy Spirit, who is like the wind, leads) those foot prints will blow through the snow, and he will go.
..."Silence below" along with the weather, signifies that he is up high in the mountains (or highlands). The happening he is anticipating will happen when he comes down from the mountains, from the coldness of the situation. The silence below may also mean he hasn't heard from a special someone..."You're beautiful beyond words, you're beautiful to me..." is what he's thinking or singing. Now, he's wondering if she still wants him and says, "You could make me cry, never say good-bye". ...When he says, "My dreams are made of iron and steel" he means his love for her is definitely strong and real. ( Iron is very strong, and steel in it's purest form is a thousand times stronger than iron) That verse could bring a sense of security to a woman, if he really means it....."with a big bouquet of roses hanging down from heavens to the ground" is symbolic of a love so beautiful it' s like roses from heaven. ..."The crashing waves roll over me as I stand upon the sand" trouble is coming but he could handle it, he's not sinking, even though he's standing on the sand waiting for her. He tells her to grab hold of his hand when she comes. He wants her to come soon and he will help her to stand with him. "Oh baby, baby blue" could mean she's been feeling blue without him near, or that she has pretty blue eyes. "You'll change your last name, too." Sounds like his way of proposing. You turned your hair to brown, love to see it hanging down. She's got long brown hair that she ties up when she's working, or trying to look dignified, and let's down when she's relaxed, or playful. ...This is a beautiful love song, and Bob Dylan sings it nicely along with the music.
