Jack Johnson Never Know Lyrics

Last updated: 09/08/2014 04:05:17 PM

I heard this old story before
Where the people keep killing for the metaphors
Don't leave much up to the imagination,
So I, wanna give this imagery back
But I know it just ain't so easy like that
So, I turn the page and read the story again
And again and again
It sure seems the same, with a diff. name
We're breaking and rebuilding
And we're growing
Always guessing

Never knowing
Shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments
We're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human
Amusing but confusing
Were trying but where is this all leading
Never Know

It all happened so much faster
Than you could say disaster
Wanna take a time lapse
And look at it backwards
From the last one
And maybe thats just the answer
That we're after
But after all
We're just a bubble in a boiling pot
Just one breath in a chain of thought
The moments just combusting
Feel certain but we'll never never know
Just seems the same
Give it a diff. name
We're beggin and we're needing
And we're trying and we're breathing

Never knowing
Shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments
We're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human
Amusing but confusing
Helping, we're building
And we're growing
Never Know

Knock knock on the door to door
Tell ya that the metaphor is better than yours
And you can either sink or swim
Things are looking pretty grim
If you don't believe in what they're spoon feeding
Its got no feeling
So I read it again
And again and again
Just seems the same
Too many different names
Our hearts are strong our heads are weak
We'll always be competing

Never knowing
Shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments
We're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human
Amusing but confusing
But the truth is
All we got is questions
We'll Never Know
Never Know
Never Know

as i knew about you and you knew about me | Reviewer: pavrun | 9/8/14

As I was here I was very happy with it because I was so happy when someone is always smiling at me and I never knew who it was and it was my best friend I knew and say goodbye to it because I want them to be very happy with me

Tom Petty Song not much like this one | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/17/13

Some reviewers have noted that the rhythm (which some have misidentified as the "melody) is very similar to that in Tom Petty's "Only a Broken Heart" off the album Wildflowers. Note that it is the same basic cord progression (vi7, ii, IV, I in the major scale) but in a different key. This is common in all music to use the same chord progressions (which are not subject to copyright). So the rhythm is the same progression, however the melodies of the two songs (the vocal line) is not at all similar, and certainly the content/subject is totally different as well.

Stereotypical belief with Good metaphors and sounds nothing like Tom Petty's Melody | Reviewer: Justin | 3/4/12

First of all I'd like to say that after listening to the melody of both Tom Petty's and Jack Johnson's songs, they are in no way alike besides maybe a couple of intervals that are proportionally relative. Second, the way it is written is quality but the belief that we don't know what we're fighting for is not only stereotypical and popular but also a cop out for not standing for any belief. I do believe in killing for any motive but, saying "we're just humans" is ridiculous considering we are the most intelligent species on the planet and is also a contradiction in itself because every religion reinforces humility and that we should not assume we know everything. All the relativity in the world is just an example of the degeneration of the human race who does not take responsibility for any of it's lifestyle choices.

Genius | Reviewer: B C | 12/5/09

It's about how religious systems are all metaphors/expressions of one underlying thing, and that ultimately all things are unknowable. As Joseph Campbell put it, people confuse the metaphor with what the metaphor represents.

It's also fucking genius

Lost my memory | Reviewer: Citra | 4/30/09

I lost my memory, almost my 1 year memory back there,,it's so sad, and this song show me how to tell what the feeling inside...maybe I never knowing what exactly happend forever. but,,at least,,,

"Never knowing
We're shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments, we're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human, amusing and confusing
Were trying but where is this all leading?
We'll Never Know"

we're just human.. ^^

One correction... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/17/09

I have the Jack Johnson certified sheet music, its actually "killing for the metaphors" not "playing for the metaphors", Which makes a lot more sense because Religious fundamentalists kill, i wish they played...even with padded baseball bats and let them tire themselves out by hitting each other! lol Maybe have a timeout after...possibly sit in the corner!

describes all of humanity | Reviewer: soho | 1/29/08

it's simple but complicated: were just human, we'll never know the mysteries of life. Is there a heaven? "Were trying but where is this all leading? We'll Never Know." We're just people living and trying to make a living and we really don't know what happens after we die. we're just living.

absolutley amazing | Reviewer: Sarah | 6/5/07

absolutley amazing. all of jack johnson's songs have great melody and lyrics, especially this one. You can really tell that the song actually means something and isn't just a load of crap like a bunch of the pop songs out there.

One of the best songs out there | Reviewer: Sam | 4/21/07

This song is on my top favorite, along with Jack's entire In Between Dreams album (mainly Better Together, Never Know, Good People, and Sitting Waiting Wishing). This song is just a song you can't hear without singing along to - it's addictive, it's fun, and it's amazing.

I can relate | Reviewer: cdj | 2/21/07

"Knock, knock coming door to door

To tell ya that their metaphor is better than yours

And you can either sink or swim
things are looking pretty grim

If you don’t believe in what they're spoon feeding

Its got no feeling
so I read it again and again and again"
