This is one of the best pop songs ever recorded for the Christmas season. Not only does it capture the essence of "I'm missing you tonight on Christmas Eve" but the production values are astronomically high and the song exhibits all of the traits that made the Carpenters one of the best groups of the Seventies. The arrangements are spectacular, Karen's vocal is unsurpassed, and, like all good songs, it takes you on a journey, making you feel good, and then letting you land gently at the end, again with a superb example of the Carpenter's vocal arrangments with the final "Merry Christmas, Darling." Even after 34+ years, we still look forward to hearing this each Christmas season.
