Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? Lyrics - Offspring

Review The Song (22)

There's a moment in time
And it's stuck in my mind
Way back, when we were just kids

'Cause your eyes told the tale
Of an act of betrayal
I knew that somebody did

Oh, waves of time
Seem to wash away
The scenes of our crimes
For you this never ends

Can you stay strong?
Can you go on?
Kristy, are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom
Winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying
To get back what was taken away

Though the marks on your dress
Had been neatly repressed
I knew that something was wrong
And I should have spoke out
And I'm so sorry now
I didn't know
'Cause we were so young

Oh, clouds of time
Seem to rain on
Innocence left behind
And it never goes away

Can you stay strong?
Can you go on?
Kristy, are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom
Winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying
To get back what was taken away

Oh, clouds of time
Seem to rain on
Innocence left behind
And it never goes away (It never goes away)
It never goes away

Can you stay strong?
Can you go on?
Kristy, are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom
Winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying
To get back what was taken away

While my name is not Kristy, I was raped by one of my closest guy friends a little more than 8 months ago (I was 16) and I can't shake this song. People connect with a lot of songs but this is one of those crafted for anyone who's been through betrayal like rape or abuse. And the singer is right when he says "it never ends". What a beautiful song.

Wow. I had this sitting in my itunes and never listened to it, once I did it instantly got into my heart.

I was raped from the time I was 7 til 9, I was so innocent, it was even before I knew what virginity was.
I always wished I had my virginity and could've chosen whom to share it with. I felt dirty and like I had nothing special. Its fucked up how society values virginity in girls and makes them feel like they're worthless if they don't have that physical thing. Hard to explain.

I felt like it was so unfair. This made me feel like I'm not the only one feeling that way. "Don't waste your whole life trying, to get back what was taken away"

I never told anyone and now its too late, no one would believe me, he'd win somehow, and I'm too scared to even make it an issue.
Some one saw, and ignored it. And should've told when I was too young to.

This song is amazing.

My first thought: someone knew?? | Reviewer: Kristy M | 5/7/10

I'm Kristy (I really am), and while this song wasn't written about me, it could have been. What happened to me when I was 10 was vile and painful and the worst of all betrayals. I never shared it with anyone...I couldn't. But it looks like someone did that for me with this song. And thank you. Even though I'm a mature responsible adult with grown kids, a career and a full life, having someone finally acknowledge this, so unexpectedly, and so anonymously, went straight to the heart of the girl who's lived with this secret for so long, who's still inside me somewhere. I'm astonished at how much better this makes me feel. And, yeah, I'm doing okay. Thanks again.

Okay guys well this song is obviously very meaningful! Too bad it wasn't one of The Offspring's big hits. It so should have been. Then maybe the world wouldn't turn a blind eye to such things as rape. Unfortunately things like this happen, people should be able to speak out about being violated. Instead they're ashamed of it. God, it's not like they ask to get raped.

When i was a teenager the offspring was one of my favorite bands. Unfortunatley at the same time i was in an abusive relationship. This song made me look back to those hard times (my name is kristi which is weird) and realize that now i am stronger and have to let go of the past but am taking the things i learned to make sure my daughter will never endure the things i did.

At first when i heard this song I was like oh cool another offspring song expecting something along the lines of smash. Well, it was nothing like their previous works, but it blew me away. So I looked more into the lyrics and i learned it was about Dexters childhood friend who was raped and didn't tell anyone, which took me by surprise because their other songs have no meaning like this. We really can all relate to this because in reality, we are all raped and taken advantage of. The song says to tell someone about whatever is bothering you and just pull through.
***** definately.

A great and meaningful song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/6/09

This song is so great when I first heared it I really liked it and I thought that there must be a deep meaning. I read the lyrics and I heared that it was about Dexters Childhood friend and about what happened to here and it made this song even greater then it was anyway. The most impressing and amazing is, that you can interpret it your own way, it fits for si many situations. I love this makes me sad and I think about all the shit happened in my life and it gives strengh to held your head high look traight and go on. Thx to the offspring...what more can I say.

i love it! | Reviewer: liz:) | 5/29/09

song with an actual meaning | Reviewer: Kristie ? | 5/26/09

As soon as I heard this song, I knew that's exactly what it meant, cause i felt like someone was taking a huge chapter out of my life and strumming a guitar to it, cause my name is Kristie, and now helps me when I'm struggling with my own demons and memories.

......... | Reviewer: Emily | 5/9/09

These lyrics are so sad, when I first heard it I thought that she was like being abused by her boyfriend and the singer was her best friend and he could tell that somethin was wrong but she wouldn't tell him. But now it's like a thousand times sadder 'cause...well, you know!!! I printed out the tabs and lyrics for it, I'm gonna try and learn it once I tune my guitar and get a capo.

oh good song | Reviewer: sagey and nicky's sis | 4/28/09

i totally thought it was about her getting abused but i didn't really think about her being sexually assaulted or whatever until i read the lyrics...very good and sad song and a good change from all the "oh, my boy/girl dumped me and now we hate each other yay!" music shit on the radio now.
five stars 4 sure.

kristy are you doing ok? | Reviewer: me:) | 4/12/09

i heard this song a couple times on the radio and never really listened to the lyrics, i just thought it was a nice song someone wrote for their friend kristy :) but after listening to the lyrics and thinking about it, every time i hear it i cry. what i love about it is that everyone can adapt it to their own meaning. people can take it in tons of different ways and points of view to fit their own life and i think it will help a lot of people thro a lot of difficult situations :) i really like it :))

untouchable lyrics | Reviewer: mike judge | 4/2/09

i heard this song and at first i thought i was about sucide and cutting it got 2 me but after i heard the meaning it made sense my freind was almost raped until i stopped the kid but this song owns

Another look | Reviewer: Brian | 4/2/09

Looking at it i knew right away that it was about a girl getting raped or something like that but i was listening to it the other day and one of my friends is going through a tough break up so i took the lyrics and sent it to her. This helped her alot a sent her the main chorus and replaced kristy with her name and she loved it. It is saying that dont worry about the past cause you cant change it and look for the better tomorow, and now its mine AND her's favorite song
