In Bloom Lyrics - Nirvana

Review The Song (169)

Sell the kids for food
Weather changes moods
Spring is here again
Reproductive glands

He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
when I say
He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
when I say yeeeaaahhh

We can have some more
Nature is a whore
Bruises on the fruit
Tender age in bloom

He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
when I say
He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
when I say yeeeaaahhh

*Guitar solo*

He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
when I say
He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
Knows not what it means and I say yeeeaaahhh

Whatever | Reviewer: Damon | 2/26/13

The review posted on 12/18/11, concerning more of Kurt's whining, is well written :) Thanks for shedding some light on it. Dude, this is depressing. I really ought to stop thinking about the meaning of the lyrics. You have to have a high to get that sort of state of mind or to even have a clue. Nirvana, yeah. cool. Whatevs

Perspectiv | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/21/13

"shoot his gun" sentens jused in meny lyricks, a symbol for a man having sex and comming... An immeture cocky, stupid fuck who hangs arround telling people what they whant to hear, "likes to sing along" beliving that he knows what the big boys are talking about. Having sex and cearing nothing at all about anyone elses feelings but his one. To stupid to get it. A period in most mails life i guess (forgive my english. Its crap,i know!;)
Kurt Cobain could sing his way down my pants ANYTIME. Only because he severel times gives cred to women for being smarter and deeper than any man he ever met;) <3

Ha Ha no meaning....... come on | Reviewer: Hoodiemaniack | 2/7/13

people who seriously believe kurt cobain really was being honest when says our songs has no meanings. I just cant agree , this guy one of the most brilliant artist to evre live definitely put his heart and soul into his lyrics ... manipulating them in a magical way. so to say he just did this to make good music is absurd

.....ah does this really need a title? | Reviewer: Gorknex | 12/18/12

This, like many other song by Nirvana are quite mellow, until you read the lyrics and realise they are in depth and often morbid or depressing. As always, like in all their songs... yeah is used a lot, and I mean a lot..

No meaning | Reviewer: Matalino | 6/20/12

Nirvana's songs are all random but the playful melody and the rhymes make it sound pretty and too easy to sing along. It's like whistling your favorite melody.

But the catch is while you're singing their songs Kurt Cobain is laughing at the background and singing:

He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means

Pretty songs, Kurt, and a nice joke.

I'll Put the Shallow comments interpretations of the song to rest to Rest | Reviewer: George | 1/8/12

Falling to the shallow perspective modern society feeds to you. Put yourself in the shoes of a man that sells love for money. Forget the family chase the dollar and then learn your lesson when the sunny weather changes in your life. You go from positive to negative for being shallow when your family falls apart because of it.

The tender aged adults that like to shoot their guns/mouths and pass judgement on things people and his music are still learning.

He didn't want to be direct with his lyrics because if he was it was interfering in the life of other people/ the beat of music. He wanted to touch the hearts of the people that have held a gun and a noose in their hands or to their head. To say I have been there too...do not turn out like me your still learning. He fostered the hopeless and killed himself to make a statement. To show the ones on deaths brink how much one voice can impact the world.

Basically telling them not to pull teh trigger your in bloom; you've learned a lesson in life, you've hit your lowest and this is as deep as it goes.Only way is up from here. Make an impact on the world like I did if you follow this root.

I strongly believe by listening to the lyrics he knew he would kill himself in the end, as a statement.

The men and woman who sing to his music have no idea of the depth of it.He never wanted to explain the lyrics because people have to fall in life to their lowest to get it. Its a lesson in life.

From the guy who didn't pull the trigger. Now watch your words boys and girls ;)

Rocksmith | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/31/11

This song is one of the songs for Rocksmith 2011 on Xbox. I'm sure Cobain would laugh at the commercialization of his music. Doesn't matter to me though. I like playing this song, even if I suck.

Say what 1218? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/22/11

Ok. How are Kurt and Krist EVER going to have babies together?

I think your general annoyance that some people like Nirvana got in the way a little there. but at least you acknowledge the song means something even if you do not find it interesting. So, whatever.

People who rant that Kurt never meant anything... What? He most certainly did. He just didn't want to spoonfed it to you because that is telling you what to think. He wanted you to think for yourself. You do not have to agree with him. Just think!

Would you write and record a song that meant nothing at all? That's a lot of trouble when doing nothing accomplishes the same thing.

People who don't like Nirvana or Kurt think he was stupid and whiny and thus incapable of knowing anything. But, he was neither of those things.

I remember Kurt. He was joking a lot of the time, but the jokes were clever. His image was remade in hours after his death was announced. People said things as though he said them, but those were not his words.

One key to understanding Nirvana songs... they weren't about the same thing all the way through sometimes. "In Bloom" is an example of this. Also, not everything can be outright said. What could have been said is "we're gay!", so I don't think that is the secret message.

More of Kurt's whining. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/18/11

A pretty typical Nirvana song. Angsty and purposely obscure; the song's lyrics don't really give away as much meaning as the video does.

The chorus is a joke. It doesn't contain any information, and in fact refers to the typical listener of pop music. Like a catchy tune, maybe something a little "out there", but is actually completely oblivious to what the artist intends to say, what his real message is.

With the filler cut out, the song is actually very short.

Sell the kids for food

"The Kids" represent the offspring of a generation. The product of sexual reproduction, male and female. The fact that the song starts out with Kurt stating "Sell the kids for food" establishes the problem at hand. The narrator's first action is to effectively commit the worst Sin possible: betrayal of the family.

Weather changes moods

Kurt now reinforces his whimsical and capricious nature, attaching his emotions and feelings to something as random as the weather.

Spring is here again

A change in season represents a major weather change.

Reproductive glands

Hmmm. I wonder what he could POSSIBLY be referring to. In the video, the two opposing and "paradoxical" sets interweave the band members as both upstanding gentlemen and as women.

We can have some more

Sex.

Nature is a whore

He is talking about nature in general. It is truly a whore. Just watch planet earth or some shit, you'll get what I'm talking about pretty quick.

Bruises on the fruit

He and his buddies are fruits. They're bruised because they've been fucking.

Tender age in bloom

Homosexual tendencies are sometimes associated with youthfulness. Whatever floats your boat.

*Guitar solo*

There is a nice pretend sex scene between Kurt and Novoselic. It's REALLY homo.

Thats it. Song's pretty fucking easy to understand. Now stop arguing and move on. The idiot is dead.

You're all too serious | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/23/11

In all his interviews, where asked Kurt has stated that music always comes before lyrics, he never thought they were important to his songs. Sure some if not most Nirvana songs do have lyrics that make sense. He also hated people being intrusive in his personal life and he didn't think personal lyrics were necessary. I think this song just mocks the people that tried to interpret his lyrics, but again, it's all about the music- not the words.

Meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/6/11

There obviously is a meaning to any song. If there was no meaning, then there would be no expression. His music would sound like he didnt care and it be one crappy note all the way through if no expression. And yes... he may not have an exact meaning of it, but there was some sort of expression and meaning. Every song has it. Almost.

Calm Down Guys... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/30/11

No need to look in to this song far too much as some of u are doing. "Spike" is totally right about the chorus, and as for the rest, Nirvana's said themselves this song is about reproduction. Anyone who still thinks this song is about Rockefeller and geo-engineering should seriously get a clue.

lalaa | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/19/11

yep , never been looking for some hiden message in his songs or some other crap but i really like
how simple and catchy his song were.

Sell the kids for food
We can have some more

Weather changes moods
Nature is a whore

Spring is here again
Bruises on the fruit

Reproductive glands
Tender age in bloom

and how he got his unique way of writing them.

cheers for all nirvana fans

I wonder what yeah means... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/18/11

"Knows not what it means when I say yeah."

I bet dozens have already said it... The point is that most of what Kurt sings doesn't really MEAN anything, yet people are trying to "interpret" even the most simplest things that come out of his mouth.

Wait a second... I'm not doing the exact same thing, am I?
