If Heaven Lyrics - Andy Griggs

Review The Song (15)

If heaven was an Hour, it would be twilight
When the fireflies start their dancin' on the lawn
And supper's on the stove, and mama's laughin'
And everybody’s working day is done

If heaven was a town, it would be my town
Oh - on a summer day in 1985
And everything I wanted was out there waitin'
And everyone I loved was still alive

Chorus:
Don’t cry a tear for me now, baby
There comes a time we all must say goodbye
And if that’s what heaven's made of
You know I, I ain’t afraid to die

If heaven was a pie, it would be cherry
So cool and sweet, and heavy on the tongue
And just one bite would satisfy your hunger

And there’d always be enough for everyone

If heaven was a train, it sure would be a fast one
That could take this weary traveler 'round the bend
If heaven was a tear, it'd be my last one
And you’d be in my arms again

Chorus:
Don’t cry a tear for me now, baby
There comes a time we all must say goodbye
And if that’s what heaven's made of
You know I, I ain’t afraid to die

Yea, if that’s what heaven's made of
You know I, I ain’t afraid to die.

Not everyone knows the intangible feelings of Love, Joy, Compassion, Happiness, and Peace.

So Andy Griggs tells us what they mean in these lyrics, giving physical embodiment to inner joys. And the music gives a soulful look back into someone's life, when concrete surroundings brought real happiness.

This song employs the concrete earthly trappings to help define the real meaning of Heaven. It's happiness, joy, and contentment.

He then expresses that his soul is fulfilled and that no tears should be shed, because he is headed for his true reward. "Don't cry a tear for me, Baby..."

This song make me pain in heart and throat .like some man that he really missed his past and his lovely people and now want to relax him self. It's more harder when I think maybe some day I read this song for my past.
For a missed man in my arm. for a laugh of mom. for time of free. for a delecious test . for some speacial years. zighi my home countrian girl. I wish you a life full of love and joy.

I've lost my grandmother and two uncles, all on my dad's side. My grandma always said she wanted to go to heaven because she wanted to be with her son and the "3 chucks"- her husband, her brother, and her father. I think I might have listened to this song after her funeral- the only funeral I've ever cried at, and I've been to many funerals. This actually inspired a story I'm writing.

Great song! | Reviewer: Bri | 4/16/08

It really makes you stop to listen to it. It's awesome and like some of you said you hear it and never forget it.

The first time I actually heard it, they never said the artist's name and its been about a month, now I know it! Yay!

I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG WHEN I WAS THINKING OF MY MOM WHO PASSED AWAY IN 1988. AND NOW THIS SONG HAS MORE MEANING TO ME TODAY. DECEMBER 6, 2007 MY MOM'S OLDER BROTHER WHO HAPPENS TO BE MY FAVORITE UNCLE PASSED AWAY TO CANCER. IT'S LIKE HE'S TELLING ME IT'S OKAY I'M WITH HER NOW.

I played this song at my little brothers funeral, along with a video of him. He was the best brother in the world and I miss him dearly. I send all my love to him.

It is a song that I have told my family I want played at my services. Just to let them know that is is ok to let go and don't cry for me I will be in a better place. Truly a well written and well sung song.

My best friend's dad passed away. This was one of the songs that they played at the funeral. As she told me about it, over the phone, I looked it up and downloaded it. After we hung up, I listened and cried. What a sweet way to help the children hear his goodbye.

A dear friend of mine was buried yesterday this song was played and it fell so true to how she lived her life and wanted everyone to feel on her passing

My Dad | Reviewer: Marianne | 2/6/05

The first time I heard this song I was on my way home from my Dads' funeral. It was if my Dad was speaking to me from heaven, that he was alright and not to cry for him. Very beautiful and heart warming song.

This song really hits me in the heart. It perfectly describes what I believe Heaven will be like when I get there. As the song goes, "Yea, if that’s what heavens made of, you know I, I ain’t afraid to die.."

I really love the song. It's one of those song's that makes you stop everthing your doing, turn it up and just listen.
