This song is about yearning for God, seeking him out, because as long as we live on this earth we will never be able to behold the complete magnificence and beauty of God. Nor is it our place to full know his truth or purpose in this life until we have experienced his glory in full bloom after the world has been judged and all humanity joins together in the purest form of worship at the foot of the throne of God. In Corinthians 8:2, Paul says that "If any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know." We will never truely experience God until the next life, and what we believe we know about God and ultimate purpose will be cast aside in revaluation of what God truely is. That is what this song is about, yearning for the moment of revelation and passion. Also, if you think the Bible is only referring to others (such as Bono and U2) when it speeks of Pharisees, I think yo need to take a long look into the mirror, because it's talking about all of us: you and me, and our hastiness to judge others. Be not so quick to condem the works of others. You will be judged by the judgement you give out to others. As for claiming the movement of love in this world is a result of idolatry, as mentioned in Acts, if it is a movement led by human motive and desire, it will die on its own accord. ("I believe in the kingdom come" my eye. Bono and FALSE "Christian" [especially] U2 IDOLATERS [typical of FALSE religionists in general, however] have spiritually-adulterously, Judas-ly, and Jezebelously shown that they "believe"/support only a MAN-MADE [God-and-Christ-mocking] "kingdom come.") U2 HAS also BEEN DELIVERING MORE AND MORE (on global scale, too) OF WHAT SUCH FALSE "CHRISTIANS"/ FALSE RELIGIONISTS/ FALSELY "SPIRITUAL" PERSONS HAVE BEEN ***************LOOKING FOR!!!!************** It has "filled" their "god-shaped hole" (re: "Discoteque"), has it not? U2's music, overall, has also become increasingly God-defiant (even with scripturally-PSEUDOGRAPHICALLY-titled new album up next?); and many of the FALSE "Christian" (along with witch/spiritists, atheist, pagans, fornication-worshipers - the whole gamut of FALSE religionists and the falsely "spiritual" - have also become increasingly emboldened in their fighting against God and those who speak his scriptural truth. Just as prophesied. Again, a FALSE "Christian" U2 IDOLATER pulls THE USUAL TACTICS of DECEPTION. They make the cliche claim that "Christianity" is basically JUST ABOUT being non-"offensive" and "nice": It is just about (NOTE the VAGUENESS rather than scriptural description/definition) "helping people"; teaching "forgiveness"; being "loving" towards "neighbors", "kind", etc. Then, based on that, using emotional PLOY, rather than true or valid reason, the deceiver SLANDEROUSLY CHARGES that the one boldly speaking needed scriptural truth - against death-causing (come Armageddon Day), easy-going LIES - is in violation of those things (is NOT loving, but is HATEFUL, etc.) It is no wonder at all that God and Jesus Christ will soon - righteously, and by LOVE and JUSTICE - execute such (non-genuinely repentant in-time enough) persons to their permanent death for daring to violate what truly is of God - for the sake of their self-serving IDOLATRIES, FALSE pride, and the LIES they LOVE (more than God or Jesus Christ.) God's own words are FULL of even graphic descriptions of Jehovah/ Yahweh's rightful rage, judgments, and WARNINGS of impending punishments/ destruction of such evildoers - words that FALSE "Christians" and other FALSELY- spiritual persons DENY the existence and life-or-death importance of. During these last of the last days of this corrupt world system, TRUE worshipers of God/ disciples of Christ urgently work to make God's scriptural warnings KNOWN (OBEYING EZEKIEL 3:17-21; Matthew 28:19,20; etc.) whereas FALSE "worshipers" of "God" and FALSE "Christians", especially, desperately scramble and use whatever means - even if it is grossly unjust or Satanic - to try to COVER OVER/ HIDE, discredit, silence, or stop those same life-or-death-for-everyone WARNINGS (and God's own scriptural requirements for continued life) from being made known, as per God's will, by their fellow human beings. Those truths, after all, by God, CONDEMN the LIES they uphold, live by, and have so unjustly oppressed with and have done harm by. Nevertheless, Jehovah/Yahweh's stated purposes will, as always, be carried out; and there is no FALSE religionist or mass thereof that has any power whatsoever to stop this Good God from doing so. Contrary to the incidious false charges of the deceiver, TRUE Christianity has never been and will never be "imposed upon the world" in the way that demonic, FALSE "Christianity" HAS BEEN - as now written in stone for all of history - with evil MEN and WOMEN destroying and killing others (and/ or spiritually supporting that other humans do so and have done so). It is only FALSE, demonic "Christianity" [along with other FALSE religions] that have enacted such demonic, life-destroying [UNFORGIVEN, vengeance-from-God-impending] campaigns as "baptism with the sword"; the Crusades; the Inquisitions; the bringing of Hitler to power to torture and/ or kill 6 million Jews plus others (including Jehovah's Witnesses); and others SINCE those times. Whereas the "weapons" of FALSE religion and FALSE "Christianity" have proven to be demonic, political, fleshly ones; THE ONLY "WEAPONS" TRUE CHRISTIANS USE OR EVER HAVE USED ARE SPIRITUAL ONES - entirely GOD-AUTHORIZED ONES, namely "THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT...HIS WORDS.” (Ephesians 6:17) Yes, UNLIKE FALSE "Christians" FAIL to do, TRUE Christians DO USE God's WORDS to "fight" for spiritual truth and justice in this world - TO YES, TEACH THE WHOLE WORLD THAT, YES INDEED, GOD ***DOES*** REQUIRE THEM, FOR CONTINUED LIFE, TO SUBMIT TO OBEYING HIM and HIS SON. (John 3:36) Still, does most of the world want to listen to God's WORDS anyway? No, of course not, just as God and Christ prophesied. Most hate it. TRUTH from God, with its natural obligation to submit to his rightful Rule is NOT what most are "LOOKING FOR", is it. "For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled" (2Timothy 4:3) Further, in great CONTRAST to FALSE "Christians", whose history is one of Satanic murder of those they have deemed their enemies (or those of the countries they have adulterously served as their gods); TRUE Christians wait for God and Jesus Christ to rid the earth of those who actually are stubborn-though-WARNED enemies of God and trouble-makers for his people.
