Hong Kong Garden Lyrics - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Review The Song (6)
Harmful elements in the air
symbols crashing everywhere
Reaps the fields of rice and reeds
while the population feeds
Junk floats on polluted water
an old custom to sell your daughter
Would you like number 23?
Leave your yens on the counter please
Hong Kong Garden
Tourists swarm to see your face
Confuscius has a puzzling grace
Disorientated you enter in
unleashing scent of wild jasmine
Slanted eyes meet a new sunrise
a race of bodies small in size
Chicken Chow Mein and Chop Suey
Hong Kong Garden takeaway

Racism strikes its ugly head again??? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/25/11
Ummm...this song was released in 1978 so saying "Racism strikes its ugly head again" is ignorant. Shouldn't it have been "Racism struck it's ugly head a long time ago."? Siouxsie wrote this song as a tribute to the Chinese employees at this restaurant because of stupid skinheads and their racism.
"I remember wishing that I could be like Emma Peel from The Avengers and kick all the skinheads' heads in, because they used to mercilessly torment these people for being foreigners. It made me feel so helpless, hopeless and ill." -Siouxsie
If only you had done your research before offering an ignorant opinion...
Not racist... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/13/11
Chinese people DO have slanted eyes. It's not racism. I find them attractive. They're also on average shorter than westerners. That's an observation. As Frank Zappa said, a lot of political correctness is just cowardice. Fantastic song btw.
Racism strikes its ugly head once again | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/8/10
According to the band's description on Wikipedia, this song was a "tribute" to the racist abuse suffered by the takeaway name in question - though being stereotyped with "slanted eyes", a "race of bodies small in size" along with
"Would you like number 23?
Leave your yens on the counter please " ... it's a British takeaway, they don't take JAPANESE currency you idiot... yep, pretty racist I'd say - of the ignorant kind though, which I suppose is better than the violent type.
But still, something you wouldn't do with blacks or arabs.

I love this song it is my favourite and it will always be my favourite. I love HONG KONG!!! and their gardens are like heaven!!! this song rule s they are the best singers ever... but are they still aliv, thats all im wonderin. LaLa Hong Kong Garden, even though these lyrics are not the absolute correct to the song but you know who cares! And omg it is such a good song cuz it does not drag on like some long winded people who will just noe cut to the chase like they go on and on but theywont just say 'This song rules' but of course there is always some power over you that is telling you you have to finish it. But any way i will cut to the chase: I am in love with this song and it is like the best thing that has ever come out but mind you tomorrow i'll find a different song. But who loved the movie Marie Antoinette i didnt cuz i didnt get it. Love this song!!!
