Evanescence Haunted Lyrics

Last updated: 07/23/2012 11:00:00 AM

Long lost words whisper slowly to me
Still can't find what keeps me here
When all this time I've been so hollow inside
I know you're still there

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you, loving you
I won't let you pull me down

Hunting you, I can smell you - alive
Your heart pounding in my head

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Saving me, raping me, watching me

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you... loving you
I won't let you pull me down

Raped by her Love | Reviewer: akroma19 | 7/23/12

From my perspective, this song is about a man she loves, but cannot have. The words and ways of his affection still bind her close to him, and she is unable to escape, trapped by her love for him. He uses her, violates her, not necessarily sexually, but he takes advantage of her love, manipulating her into doing things she does not want to do, in order to please him, driven by the hope of winning him. He is the only thing that makes her happy, but he is also the knife that is slowly twisting deeper into her belly, crushing her soul, breaking her heart. She is unsure whether she wants to finally be with him, or to break free of the emotional bondage.
This song is well written, and very well sung, great job by Evanescence, as I would expect.

This song is about a story that Ben wrote for Amy to make lyrics out of. Here's the story:

"A little girl around 8 or 9 in a little white Easter dress is walking down a neighborhood street bouncing a little red ball. as she approaches an obviously deserted large house with a sinister demeanor, her attention moves from the ball to the house. Not paying attention to her bouncing, the ball hits the curb and ricochets toward the house. As she chases the little red ball toward the house, the ball picks up unnatural momentum and bounces right into the huge gaping front door. The little girl pauses for a moment, looks up at the house which now appears to be staring down at her, and cautiously enters the house in search of her little red ball. as she slowly walks into the atrium, she surveys the decaying mess that once was obviously a beautiful mansion. She becomes mesmerized by the exquisite detail of every inch of the banister winding up the seemingly endless staircase in front of her. Suddenly her thoughts are broken by a horrifying commotion. She whips around to run out the front door, but finds only a blank wall where the door once stood. Frightened, she runs down the first hallway she sees, trying desperately to find a way out, but with every turn the world behind her changes, bending to the will of the house, so that even finding a path back to the atrium where she began becomes impossible. Terrified, the little girl sinks into a corner, puts her head in her hands, and weeps.

10 years later....

The little girl wakes up in a panic, now a young woman.. dirty, scarred. She's now clothed in black pants, work boots, and a black wife beater. Her skin is pale and dirty. Sun has not graced her flesh in over a decade. She wakes to find a meal placed on a dirty silver tray before her, just enough to sustain life, just like every morning before. Placed there by a figure she can only see in passing, around a corner, walking through a door.... a figure that has become her only friend, and her only hate. Her entire existence has become nothing but to hunt and destroy this shadow that keeps her here. As she hunts him relentlessly day after day, she becomes lost in the dichotomy of her being. This thing that keeps her here, this person that repeatedly rapes her mind and watches her when she sleeps, has become her only friend. For if this person left, she would cease to exist. For she lives only to kill him. But lives only FOR him. Every day the house changes around her, so that every day she wakes in a foreign land. The only constant... Is him. She hears his heart beating, she smells him, she can only think of finding him, but he is also the only thing she knows of love."

I donno, maybe I have a diffrend version of the song, but many lyrics are diffrend for example the first chorus at u is: "I know I'll find u somehow" at me is "I won't let u pull me down" and so are many of them

Good but Bad | Reviewer: Rebecca | 10/25/10

It's a good song impossible to sing but still anyway the "hunting me" part I didn't get because the song isn't called hunted it's called haunted so I think it should be "haunting me" cause it goes with the name of the song better and it'd be better to sing but still i totally love this song it just needs to be slightly improved but either way I still love it.

Beautiful song/i love the lyrics | Reviewer: Rebecca ;D | 4/20/10

The lyrics are about how she loves somebody
but they pull her down with their love and the saving me raping me part is about how it feels like the person saves her sometimes but hurts her other times and technically rape is a form of hurt so its just her interpitation, of the love she has with somebody. Oh and the part saying that she won't let him pull her down is about her not wanting their love to pull her down.

I love this song

I really love the song, It's amazing, but... whom is this dedicated to? To the devil? to a ghost? to what? it's confusing.. cuz she said "Saving me, Raping Me". I don't get. ='( maybe her idiology is different than mine. Still love her, but who saves you just don't rape you.

My one problem with this song...and some band recommendations. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/10/10

I like this song. The only problem I have with it is the line "saving me, raping me." I really, really, really, really want that last part to be a metaphor.

If it's a metaphor it means that he saves her, but every time he saves her he steals more of her humanity, causing her to need him even more. That's just what I get from it.

If you like this band, I recommend Nightwish and Within Temptation. And if you're ready for some really heavy Christian metal that's still somewhat symphonic, check out Crimson Moonlight, especially their Eternal Emperor CD.

I read a story on how this came about, it was totally awesome!
'Haunting you, i can smell you alive'
I thought instead of 'Haunting' it should be 'Hunting'
Because hunting doesn't necessarily have to be about animals.
This is just an opinion by the way haha

There is two versions of this song; the Demo version and the one that was released on Fallen.
The Demo version says "I know I'll find you somehow" instead of "I won't let you pull me down".
Just clearing that up.
Awesome song. :)

well, there's a typo | Reviewer: hello | 7/10/07

in the first chorus, it's not "I know I'd find you somehow"

"I won't let you pull me down"

Gorgeous song | Reviewer: AC | 7/9/07

I love the melody... The lyrics are kind of creepy though. And I'm a sucker for choral parts in a rock song. <3 What heart monitor sound? I've never noticed that...
