Gaudete Lyrics - Mediaeval Baebes

Review The Song (6)

Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!

Tempus adest gratiae, hoc quod optabamus,
Carmina laetitiae devote reddamus.

Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!

Deus homo factus est natura mirante,
Mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante.

Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!

Ezechielis porta clausa pertransitur,
Unde lux est orta, salus invenitur.

Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!

Ergo nostra contio psallat jam in lustro,
Benedicat domino: "Salus regi nostro!"

Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine. Gaudete!

This is my favorite version! | Reviewer: Chef Bratt | 12/28/13

This song has long been one of my medieval favorites. But I gotta say, Babes - you ladies sing the best version I have ever heard! Gaudete is the reason I got my first Mediaeval Baebes CD, and I've been hooked on your sweet uplifting sound ever since!

Gaudete, Christus est natus et they are not the only version | Reviewer: GerogeE | 12/26/09

I really love this song, especially since I can understand the lyrics (not to say other people here don't), which is the first problem that I have with this version by this choir... people should work on their pronunciation before trying to sing in a foreign language. Granted, the average listener out there does not have a degree in Latin or necessarily know much about Latin pronunciation, but still...

Second, I have heard many different versions of this song and can say with certainty that it would work out much better with a male/female choir, because the verses (in between the refrain) have lower notes than those of the refrain, hence the women should sing the refrain and the men the verses (liturgical name for what they are, everyone know this is a religious song, right?), but anyway, I think they have taken a bit of a liberal interpretation of the notes in general in their version, which might be good or bad, but it sounds strange to me...

Key? | Reviewer: Joanna Jones | 9/29/09

Well in rebuttle to your comment 'a pretty big fan'
This song was written in 1582, when the pentatonic major key and scale that we know today had not actually been established in this country yet. It was a scale called the Pyrighian scale and only had minor key sounding notes in it.

This Song, Compared to Their Others... | Reviewer: A Pretty Big Fan | 12/25/08

I Honestly Have to Say. Not one of their best songs. You'd think if they'd be singing about something that is supposedly such a joyous occassion, the least they could do would be to SOUND like it's something to rejoice about! HONESTLY :/

this is a deadly song you see my godfather and auntie are in a choir and they sing this song which is called Gaudete I love the way the choir sings it they sing it the way my godfathers choir sings it but my godfathers choir sings it much better then this choir .
