Elton John Friends Lyrics

Last updated: 08/05/2013 02:41:29 AM

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
From the soundtrack Friends

I hope the day will be a lighter highway
For friends are found on every road
Can you ever think of any better way
For the lost and weary travellers to go

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

It seems to me a crime that we should age
These fragile times should never slip us by
A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

Timeless perfection | Reviewer: David | 8/4/13

Elton and Bernie have always amazed me with their music. Friends has a truthful and beautiful message that is haunting when one feels the music... I consider Elton and Bernie my friends because when I hear their music, everything's alright.

Friends .... &.....Drugs | Reviewer: Rudy | 3/4/10

My son is 19, and in drug rehab. He went to FSU, joined a fraternity his first semester, and got introduced to pills and alcohol, and then marijuana. Flunked out and lost his full scholarship......came back home depressed, bought pills and pot on the street constantly, smoked, drank and took the amphetamines......he took 13 adderalls in 2 days, became extremely paranoid and halucinating.....had to take him to hospital, who sent him to a detox center, who wanted to send him to a state mental hospital.....we intervened and sent him to a drug rehab place in Illinois. He ran away twice due to his medication, and ended up in a behavioral hospital program, who concluded that all the drugs and drinking damaged his brain receptors and that he will never be fully "right" again. Medication all his life, with bouts of anxiety, depression, halucinations, paranoia and schitzophrenia. So.....whenever I hear this song, I long for the days of his childhood when our son was that bright normal boy, full of life and happiness, and I cry......for him, and for me.....And as Elton says ******* These fragile times should never slip us by.....A time you never can or shall erase*******As friends together watch their childhood fly......Thanks're the best!!!

Class Song | Reviewer: Cynthia | 10/17/09

I graduated high school in 1974. Friends is our class song. Yes, the lyrics are what it is all about some 35 years later. Tonight, I am attending my 35th Class Reunion--"If your friends are there then everything's all right"

Brings a lump to my throat everytime I hear it | Reviewer: Jeffrey from Liverpool, NY | 7/10/09

I recently pulled this album out of the closet and burned it on a CD. This music is timeless. I actually caught the movie with my girlfriend back in 1973. It was bad but didn't detract from this great album. Great memories from a time when Elton & Bernie were at their best.

This song came out when I was 15. What a glorius time to be alive and living the thoughts Elton and Bernie put into this song. Earyl 50's now, and such an even greater appreciation of what it is saying. The thoughts are so true, of any given time in someone's life.

........the very best of Elton John | Reviewer: Anne | 12/4/08

Amazing, I'm not the only one o feel this way about this song. Every time I hear it I'm back in high school, just moved overseas with th folks, lonely, meetin new friends, reading Tolkien's the Hobbit etc. It's as clear today as if it just happened. Thanks Bernie and Elton!

First Time I heard this song.... | Reviewer: JoAnne | 12/24/07

I was 14 years old and felt like I had the best friends possible around me to grow up with... THOSE FRAGILE TIMES DID PASS US BY AS WE AGED BUT, WE DID LISTEN AND LEARN FROM THOSE WORDS
IF YOUR FRIENDS ARE THERE THEN EVERYTHINGS ALRIGHT. I know longer see these Friend's but, if I were ever to cross paths with them again we would all still be the same in our minds and our spirits.

Flashback:1977 | Reviewer: Timo | 9/14/07

One of those songs that when you hear it it's as if you've stepped into a time machine. Me, I'm back on North Lake Shore Drive in the graveyard with my friends. Life was perfect, we didn't know it at the time, but it was....

30 years later and I still embrace this song. | Reviewer: Dan Flowers | 4/30/05

Such a simple thing - to honor one's friends. This song touches me in a personal way that today still holds its effect on my life. I sang this 30 years ago with my now wife of 27 years. And, when I hear it today it still moves me. This comes out of a period of Elton John's music that exemplifies purity of thought in music. Elton and Bernie are the epitome of perfection in lyric and melody, and I am glad to have found this song so long ago.
