Freebird Lyrics - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Review The Song (42)

(Allen Collins - Ronnie VanZant)

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be traveling on now
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see

But if I stayed here with you,GIRL
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

Ohohohohohhhhh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can’t change

Bye bye, baby, it's been a sweet love, yeah, yeah
Though this feeling I can't change
sponsored links
But please don't take it so badly
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame

But if I stay here with you, GIRL
Things just couldn't be the same
Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you never change

Ohohohohohhhhh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change
Lord help me I can't change
Lord I can't change,
Won't you fly high, Free Bird, yeah

Beautiful | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/12/11

This song is so amazingly beautiful. And some of the storys shared by the commenters are as well. This will definetly be the second song I play at my funeral, the first being 'killed by death' by mötorhead (partly because it's one of my favourite songs, but mainly because of the irony).

I feel Freebird | Reviewer: Conacord | 5/24/11

When I listen to Freebird I think of my Mom who died of cancer shortly after this song came out. After suffuring unsuccessesfully threw chemo and radiation therapy, we brought her home to spend her last days with the family. Most of the time, when I would listen to "my music", she would ask me to turn it down but when Freebird came on she asked me to turn it up. She had sung for years in the church choir and had a beautiful voice so it made me cry when she would sing along with this song but when the word girl came up she would say child. I know now that she was'nt just changing the word because she was female. She was singing to me .... and every time I hear the song she sings it to me again .... and I still cry!

i never really listened to the words of this song until this past summer when my uncle was killed in a motorcycle accident. this was his favorite song, so of course we played it at his funeral.to this day this song still brings me to tears and gives me the chills. he suffered with a terminal disease, and now he is free as a bird, even though we all miss him dearly. this song puts everything into perspective and helped our family through our mourning over his sudden death.

graduation song | Reviewer: Jordyne | 10/11/10

our class of 2011 picked freebird for our graduation song. alot our classmates were upset by this choice of song, but i love this song personally. i think it will be a good walk away song. and one of our classmates killed themselves a year ago, and i know if he was still here today this would be the song he would choose. i think its a great song for graduation.... what do you guys think???

Great song | Reviewer: Aine | 6/16/10

one of the greatest | Reviewer: Justin | 4/24/10

this has to be one of the greatest songs of all time if not the greatest, it applys to so many different things in life, i think of a new meaning evertime i listen to it! i wonder wat they must have been feelin wen they wrote this! so much emotion and feeling in 9 mins, even with the instrumentals!

One of the greatest songs of alltime | Reviewer: Freak Show | 12/17/09

This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Though the original singer died in the plane crash, his brother kept the band going. My Mother who just passed away this year brought me up listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd and this song reminds me of her. It has had a major impact on my life as well as most of Lynyrd Skynyrds music.

Forrest Gump OST. | Reviewer: Zack | 10/14/09

The 1st time i heard this song, was on the movie forrest gump! It played on a scene that i think was the most powerfull scene in the whole movie. It took me to another place - words cant express what i felt. Immedietly after the movie i had a mission to find the misterious song. I believe the song played a big part in ma lyf and it made me the man i am today.

Fly free friend. | Reviewer: Gabriela | 3/21/09

The first time I really heard this song was when my best friend and other guys played it, I felt it. But now I can't hear it without cry, my best friend was killed 4 months ago and, and for some reason, the song that most remind me of him is Freebird.

Free. | Reviewer: Semsu | 1/14/09

It´s hard to finally write something like: "This song is so awesome that it´s stupid to try and put into words what you can feel while listening to it" and most will read it as a default comment, without much thought put into it. But I mean each and every word to the fullest. This song touches your soul.

one of the best songs ever!! | Reviewer: Elias Rangel | 11/26/08

A FAN SINCE 1974 | Reviewer: MARK | 7/16/08

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST LOVED ROCK SONG OF ALL TIME! IF YOU LISTEN TO THE RADIO DAILEY, YOU WILL HEAR IT. I SAW LYNYRD SKYNYRD PERFORM IN 1974 AND AGAIN IN 1976. IN 1976 THE OUTLAWS WAS WITH THEM. ANOTHER GREAT SOUTHERN ROCK BAND. AS A 17YR OLD, ALLEN COLLINS STOLE MY HEART WITH HIS GUITAR SOLO IN FREE BIRD. IT MADE THE SONG FAMOUS. OTHER GUITARIST HAVE TRIED TO DUPLICATE FOR YEARS AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO. EVEN ERIC CLAPTON SAID THAT ALLEN COLLINS WAS ONE OF THE TOP 3 GUITARIST OF ALL TIME. FREE BIRD WILL BE PLAYED FROM NOW ON. I LOVE YOU GUYS! YOUR MUSIC IS THE SOUNDS OF MY YOUTH! YOU ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE MY FAVORITE BAND!

not a great song | Reviewer: george | 4/7/08

Lynyrd Skynyrd was a great band. They wrote some great music. Sweet home Alabama and Give me three steps, for example. Those songs ROCK. But Freebird is a depressing song that drags along listlessly to a weak finish. I mean no disrespect to VanZant and company but if they were still around today, the song would probably not be as popular as it is.
As for the best Southern Rock Band, musically, that honor belongs to The Allman Brothers Band. The guitar licks of Duanne, Greg, and Berry alone justify my opinion. Rest in peace, Duanne
