Footsteps Lyrics - Pearl Jam

Review The Song (12)

Don't even think about reachin' me
I won't be home
Don't even think about stoppin' by
Don't think of me at all
I did, what I had to do
If there was a reason, it was you...

Don't even think about gettin' inside
Voices in my head, voices
I got scratches, all over my arms
One for each day, since I fell apart
I did, what I had to do
If there was a reason, it was you...

Footsteps in the hall, it was you, you
Pictures on my chest, it was you
It was you...

I did, what I had to do
And if there was a reason
Oh, there wasn't no reason, no
And if, there's something you'd like to do
Just let me continue, to blame you

Footsteps in the hall, it was you, you
Pictures on my chest, it was you, you

Great Song | Reviewer: PearlJamFan | 3/3/11

I absolutely love this song, and yes the true meaning is about him in prison reflecting back on what he has done, but it can also mean multiple things depending on the person listening. Haven’t you ever wondered why they don’t make a lot of music videos? It’s because the members of pearl jam want us to interpret the song in our own special way. Eddie Vedder said so himself one time. They don’t like explaining what their songs mean to their fans because then their fans wont connect with the songs as much as they could because everyone has different life experiences. Take “Alive” for example; To Eddie, this was a very dark emotional song for him, but to everyone else it was pretty much a tribute to being alive. He even said, that our interpretation of the song gave it a whole new meaning, and now he truly is alive.

Temple of the Dog | Reviewer: Double Song | 4/1/10

The song was written by the Temple of the Dog project and recorded as "Times of Trouble" by Temple of the Dog and also recorded as "Footsteps" by Pearl Jam.

Two very uplifting songs - one about a heroin overdose - the other about an individual contemplating his actions that landed him in prison.

trilogy | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/12/10

i love it...the mamacita trilogy....that kills me. how about the papason trilogy. lukin, mfc, and sonic reducer

well you knever know if the person is on death row, you can only assume.

he is in jail, prison reflecting back on what he did in the trilogy story.

there is a song i believe by, cant think now, but anyway they use the same music except different lyrics. i know the band as good as i know my cats name it's just 8am. oh well check out some of PJ demo's before eddie joined the group. dollar short and songs like that are instrumental, then eddi joins and puts lyrics to them

Double Meaning | Reviewer: Anne Onymous | 9/28/09

This song kinda has a double meaning to it.

It is the last part of the Mamasan trilogy where the man from the first two parts (Alive, Once) is reflecting on what he has done in prison.

However it can also be interpreted as a sad, break-up song as well.

its not about execution | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/21/08

Footsteps is not about" him on Death Row about to go to his execution...." but about him looking back from what he did inside a prison cell!!

really you should know your facts abit better before complaining to people that they sob on songs.

Doo --- Sh... get it right | Reviewer: Joe Brick | 4/4/08

Dude, first off quit being so condescending. Especially when you dont even know what the trilogy is called.. its not called mamacita... its called Mamasan.

Now other than that.. you where right on. Next time, instead of googling or wiki'ing it, try learning something for your self. I bet your what.. 12? Get it right MAN!

Crazy | Reviewer: | 12/17/07

Do you guys even know what this song is about? its about a friggin serial killer going to his execution..

it was part of his Mamacita Triliogy..

Alive... about a boy that finds out his dad is actually his step dad..
Once.. about him as an adult tand killing a hooker...
and Footsteps.. about him on Death Row about to go to his execution....

Make you sob now?

Pearl Jam at their best | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/19/07

I`ve always preferred this deep, introspective side of Pearl Jam. I wish they`d focus the rest of their career on this type of song.Bluesy, grungy, perfect.

footsteps | Reviewer: michael dent | 9/6/07

Its now friday morning sometime and im listening to touched about 12 or so years ago, and it managed to do it again.

unknown beauty | Reviewer: oochiemafluffy | 7/4/07

I cried to this in Munich when Eddie did it solo accoustic. No tough guy act, no hidden tears, just sobbing along... Like crazy Mary and throw your arms around me, this song will never get the credit it deserves... That's okay guys, you know the song, and come on, really, does it get much better that this when somethings as silly as a song touches you like this??? Enjoy....
