Even In His Youth Lyrics - Nirvana

Review The Song (20)

Even in his youth (x3)
He was nothing

Kept his body clean (x3)
Goin nowhere

Daddy was ashamed (x3)
He was something

Disgraced the family name (x3)
He was something

The thief is born before you're through
Ive got nothing left to prove
If I die before I wake
Hope I dont come back a slave

Yeah yeah yeah!

Even in his youth (x3)
He was nothing

Kept his body clean (x3)
Goin nowhere

Daddy was ashamed (x3)
He was nothing

Disgraced the family name (x3)
Goin nowhere

The thief is born before you're through
Ive got nothing left to prove
If I die before I wake
Hope I dont come back a slave

Oh, ah, yeah!

The thief is born before you're through
Ive got nothing left to prove
If I die before I wake
Hope I dont come back again!!

Oh, ah, yeah!

Even in his youth (X2)
Yeah, yeah

Even in his youth(X2)
Yeah, yeah

Even in his youth
Yeah, yeah

Even in his youth
Yeah, yeah (x4)

throwaway? | Reviewer: R. Boor | 3/3/14

It's not nirvanas best song by a long shot and that's probably why it's tucked away on a b side but, if a modern band would release anything like this now, it would blow people's minds. The genius of nirvana right there

All are wrong | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/29/13

This song isn't about drugs or anything of the sorts it's about a highly religious family who was ashamed of his son because he didn't see him in the eyes of god his father didn't let him go anywhere and it lead him to be a depressed rebel

Great | Reviewer: Marten | 2/26/12

Love the sound of the guitar in this song. It really has some angry energy to it. One of their most depressive songs but on the other hand, when you feel that way I think it helps hearing this song because it makes you feel less lonely in your misery.

Awesome | Reviewer: Ben | 12/11/11

This song is great. Kurt was a massive Charles buwkoski fan. When I listen to this, all I have in my mind is Bukowski , the man never worked in his life, hated by his dad, and lived by the motto Don't try.. I think this might be a little tribute to him, only an opinion. Awesome track, did they ever play it live?

Great song. | Reviewer: Jason | 10/2/10

He wrote the song in the late 80's before he ever went to rehab John. It's one thing to guess or intepret what a song is about without pretending you know and filling in all the blanks with your imagination.

life message | Reviewer: john | 6/9/10

ive got nothing left to prove meant he did what he wanted and had nothing left to prove thats why he said if i die before i wake that meant if i kill myself before you find me i wont haft to go back to rehab like a slave cause his dad was discraced with him he sid he was nothing and said he was going nowhere but(he was something)

all nirvana is depressing most of his songs are about his shitty life, kurt was a sad man lol dont get me wrong i love nirvana, i just grew out of them and still listen once in a while, also try neil young, the pixies, r.e.m, blind melon, the doors, all HUGE influences to nirvana

Kurt Cobain | Reviewer: osiris | 10/11/08

Kurt made a few different versions of a lot of songs and changed the lyrics a lot. Before Smells Like Teen Spirit was put on an album he sang like 5 different versions of it all with different lyrics. This sounds like the version that i have.

damn this song is great, it has such a simple yet deep riff and creates some sick emotional response, at least for me
i first heard this song from Incesticide with this lyrics, but you´re rigth, the one that is in the b-sides album has different lyrics

interesting | Reviewer: phil | 1/8/08

this song describes perfectly what emotional problems are in my family, family that fell apart despite my efforts.i definatly got nothin else to prove, proved but still be disbelived.
tired of trying. when i die before i wake,
hope i dont come back to live this shit.the shit this song describes,my life.
good song, atleast im not the only one living this shit.

with teh lights out | Reviewer: brian | 11/5/07

true, these are not the same lyrics heard on the box set.. that was a rough version of the song. These lyrics are heard on the single for Smells Like Teen Spirit.
I first heard this song in a bowling alley in Tweed on a jukebox that actually played 7 INCHES! Other than Nevermind, it was the only Nirvana I could get in my little hick town so I would feed quarters into that jukebox to listen to this rare gem every Sunday afternoon.

One of my favorites | Reviewer: Jimena | 11/1/07

This song is great, but here are not the same lyrics I hear on "With the lights out".
I think Jeff is right, he should submit his corrections.

You guys got the majority of it right | Reviewer: jeff | 10/25/07

Its

Even so for your proof I've got nothing left to prove if i die before i wake I hope i dont come back the same.
least thats what i hear

stripped of the family name
not discrased

Great song. | Reviewer: David | 10/4/07

This song is depressing, but it's still one of my favorite songs. From my point of view this song is all about him and how his life was. But that's just me.

True Grunge | Reviewer: Spunky | 7/31/07

I first heard this song on "With the Lights Out". It was amazing. I love how Nirvana songs can be discected and meanings found in them, like that review that said it was depressing. This is definately one of my favorite Nirvana songs.
