Dumb Lyrics - Nirvana

Review The Song (114)

I'm not like them
But I can pretend
The sun is gone,
But I have a light
The day is done,
I'm having fun
I think I'm dumb
Or maybe just happy

Think I'm just happy (x3)

My heart is broke
But I have some glue
Help me inhale
And mend it with you
We'll float around
And hang out on clouds
Then we'll come down
And have a hangover

Have a hangover (x3)

Sit in the sun
Fall asleep
Wish away
soul is cheap
Lesson learned
Wish me luck
Soothe the burn
Wake me up

I'm not like them
But I can pretend
The sun is gone,
But I have a light
the day is done,
I'm having fun
I think I'm dumb
Or Maybe just happy

Think I'm just happy (x3)

I think I'm Dumb (x12)

It reaches out | Reviewer: JW | 5/2/13

This song really reaches out to me. Not because I am 'dumb' but because it connects to the part of me that knows I am different. The line "I'm not like them" shows that this person could never really fit in with people or even understand what they are talking about. Of course, kurt never wanted anyone to know what his lyrics were about, or he didn't intend them to mean anything. So really, all I'm saying is my own connection to this song is the fact that I don't fit in with people, I can't understand them, its hard to talk to them and I feel isolated. So yes, that one line 'I'm not like them' for me sums up the song, its for people who are different and don't fit in for whatever reason.

Well, you see, I can understand these lyrics perfectly even without being on anything drug-related.
Ever heard of "Ignorance is bliss"? Well, if you haven't, you're a living proof.
It seems like Kurt had and he didn't find himself that blissful.

Sorry for the double post... | Reviewer: SarcasticSmartass | 10/24/12

...I forgot to mention my huge interest in why the hell does everybody write at least two sentences about how Kurt is dead and he should rest in peace and all that?
I dare to say pretty much everybody noticed he's not alive anymore. So what it is that this unfortunate fact has to do with his lyrics? As far as I know he wrote them while he was alive.

I think in order to fully understand him you should have tried bein on sumething!
because when your depressed as a result of drug abuse your nerve system doesn't function properly! so the only thing that can make you feel normal and maybe happy is the drugs.
that must be so difficult!! :(

why mike? | Reviewer: gabriel | 8/22/12

Kurt Cobain was troubled, sure. But I think we all are in a way. Maybe this was his way of reaching out to all of the other troubled people out there. I don't understand why Mike has to straight-up insult Kurt. You flat-out disrespected him and his memory, Mike. Maybe you don't care for this music. That's cool and all, but don't degrade what you obviously don't understand. Drugs do stuff to your mind and body and most are not good. Still, if Kurt did drugs, it was his way to deal with his problems. Whether it was the right way, or wrong, I don't know. But he and Nirvana made music that will last forever. A lot longer than Mike will last, that's for sure. Dumb is a beautiful song that should be respected and admired. I love the song. Mike, you're the one with the real issues.

Love that song | Reviewer: DS | 8/16/12

I don't think Kurt meant to put himself(if you see him as the narrating person) above other people nor did he think he was better than others.
I think he meant he couldn't be simply happy but he could pretend to be so he appeared to be happy for others.
At the moment he wrote that song he might really be happy but when noticing that he already thought again about it, if he can be happy or is and as an alternative, he thought he just might be dumb because he never could be easily happy otherwhise.

It's just my interpretation because i act the same way. If i'm actually happy i'll be thinking about it and with that i destroy it again.
But unlike Kurt i don't take drugs to be happy although i can be happy when i'm drunk for example.
It's weird and it sucks ;)

Apart from all that stuff i love that song since i listened to it the first few times.
Most songs people don't know are far better than those people know because they're popular.

Hey! Kurt Cobain is the most amazing person in the world! I agree. But one thing he hated more than publicity was people misinterpreting his songs!!!! Don't try to analyze it and to figure out what it means. Dude just listen to it and enjoy it. Yes I understand it is very intriguing, but just enjoy his music. He is my idol and the person I look up to he most. So instead of everytime you listen to one of his songs and try to guess its meaning, just sit and listen and headbang and enjoy it.
Thanks! :)

"I think I'm dumb!" | Reviewer: Mahir Haque | 1/19/12

This is one of my favorite Nirvana songs. It really grabs someone inside the song and make him/her see what Kurt had felt and dealt with during his time. He was a legend and always will be remembered in our hearts. Kurt Cobain...We salute you!

One of my favorite Nirvana songs | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/22/12

Kurt really wrote an amazing song, explaining his experience and all. As I play this song on my Ipod again and again, it feels like Kurt's right beside me singing it. He really grabbed me inside his world. Rest in peace, Kurt! You were an awesome singer and a crazy guitarist.

I like Nirvana | Reviewer: William | 1/21/12

This song is about smoking heroine(which was
Kurts preferred method of getting high) and the highs and lows of drug addiction and withdral, which he struggled with

Nothing more, nothing less

I guess he thought it was dumb but didnt realy care

dumb | Reviewer: kurdt kobain | 1/25/12

the lyrics are from the viewpoint of a "dumb" person. the first line is kurt saying that he's not like them but he can pretend and then he goes on to write from their point of view. the first verse is repeated for emphasis.

It's different | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/9/12

I dont this song is about Kurt experiencing drugs or his world view through drugs or what he thought about drugs... I don't know if there's such an idiom in English but in my language there's a sentence that says "no brain, no worries". Kurt was an extremely smart and complicated Person, and almost never had a moment of rest because of his issues and who he simply was... And in this song I think that he tries to express this feeling, that only when he felt dumb and brainless, with or without drugs, he could actually feel happy, just happy... In this world that is filled with so much things to care about and to worry about, only the ingnorants and the stupid can be happy FOR REAL. If you don't worry about anything, you have the free time to be happy.

People.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/8/12

All of nirvanas songs are so universal.. they point out different concepts and memories of ones life just as any other good artist. You are ignorant if you think that Kurt was just writing about one thing.. if you have ever tried drugs, felt what it is like to be addicted, seen the world from another point of view, you would know exactly why Kurt and anyone else that has commited suicide did what they did.
