This song is about 2 twins in utero. One is parasitic. It eats the other twin, but feels bad about having to do so. He "liked" his twin and even learned things from it. Perhaps he learned what hat 11th finger was for? Who knows, but it was a matter of survival. He had to eat his twin to survive the womb.

to me this song sounds like it's about a woman and her baby before and after it's born. he just uses odd metaphores sometimes. plus kurt said in an interview which you can find on youtube saying he would l;ike the fans to interperate it and send him what they thought instead of him telling everyone. the lyrics might be bits and pieces of things he wrote but it all has a purpose. people might say songs are about nothing but they probably just don't want to explain it to people. seinfeld is about nothing but every episode was about something. (georges wallet or whatever) don't be stupid and subscribe to the whole tortured artist, songs about nothing concept.

K look we all have our opinions about what the lyrics meant obviously we will never know cause I'm sure noone here met Kurt and asked him did you? You all need to just ENJOY THE MUSIC maybe Kurt meant this or that and maybe he didn't but it doesn't matter now we will never know so just turn the volume up FULL AND LISTEN to this great song

In an interview, kurt said that he likes the human anatomy. So the baby thing interpretation about this song might be right. But hell no, kurt loves girls. And sex. This song is about him making out and going crazy inlove with tobi."chew your meat for u, pass it back and fourth...." , that's sucking each others tounge. And the baby he's talking about, is just simply yobi's egg cell and his sperm. That's about iy, don't make things complicated.

He may have said he doesn't put effort into his lyrics, it's cause he was a heroin addict amongst other awesome mind opening drugs, psychedelics and such. So for effort in lyrics, these deep thoughts come easy to a guy given the access to them. You can't disregard the depth of the lyrics just cause you've never done heroin to realize how easy things come to your mind. For a sober mind, one that hasn't experienced the mind opening substances, you won't have the ability to go into the depths and decipher the music. Doesn't mean your interpretation is wrong, that's the brilliance in music. Many metaphors. Also, doesn't mean that the guy that interprets the song to be that Kurt's being showed some shit from spirits from the spirit drug he injected, is wrong either, just means you haven't given your brain access to decipher in those depths. And no glass of Soda will do that for you! You gotta intake the access drug!

There is no such thing as time. Kurt Cobain was on a spiritual path completing his mission and his suicide was a part of it. This song was intended for mother earth incarnate to listen to later on and realize that Kurt Cobain reincarnated into her womb, as a sacrifice meant to be eaten in order to heal her. this song is about a boy and a girl and the love between them, and i love it. so innocent and primitive and harsh and demanding but definitely absolute in itself. this is real love. draining each other...

I wish people would just find their own meaning in the song. Since, as humans, we are all flawed and have our interpretations of the truth whether we like to admit it or not.

I happen to interpret this song as a love hate relationship with society and those authoritative figures in it. Society for example, through public education, tries to clone us into followers of their interpretation of what is worth knowing and what is the truth. They are chewing our meat for us, and passing it on through the regurgitation of a world view that has become considered Truthful. We do not think for ourselves anymore, and that is the greatest pain I have come to find in my life. So let everyone interpret and create freely. That, to me is the beauty of this life. Don't let society Drain You and your creative minds!!!

the album is nevermind so dont mind the lyrics kurt killed himself due to wrong interpretion of his lyrics in [polly] so if you love kurt then stop interpreting such things about his lyrics

You guys take this song too seriously. I think he once said that he doesn't overthink lyrics... He just wrote down what he had in mind... That's it! Maybe there is a meaning in the song. Let's not question the music and just listen!

This song is, ostensibly, a take on the relationship between a pair of twins, one "healthy" and one parasitic. Images are from both inside the womb ("in utero") as well as outside it.

In classic Cobain fashion, Kurt abstracts this image to communicate a metaphor for dependency, ("you're my vitamins" on the parasitic twin's part), and co-dependency on the "healthy" twin's part ("pass it back and forth/ in a passionate kiss"). It therefore communicates a message about the needy/ destructive nature of intimate relationships in tones that are alternately earnest and sarcastic, and therefore ironic.

But mostly, if you find yourself screaming along, it's because Kurt was a master of channeling something primal within himself (and therefore inside us all), whether it makes "logical sense," or not. Instead, it makes "emotional sense," which is doubly ironic when our emotions are so bewildering, confusing, and incomprehensible that they drive us to self-destruction (shotgun). And that is both his genius and his tragedy.

You are all taking these lyrics far too seriously. If you are seriously stupid enough as to say that this song is about drugs, nerh. "Chew your meat for you, passing back and forth, in a passionate kiss, from my mouth to yours". If it's about heroin, does he also kiss needles? Does a needle eat meat? "I don't care what you think unless it is about me". Does a needle/heroin have a brain? You're all far too serious and fail to understand that Kurdt never put too much meaning in a song, you are all just looking for an explanation to see him as a fucking junkie.

Ah now lads. Have a cup of tea. I heard nobody knew what the song was about. I heard he took it to his urn with a cup of tea. Ah sure he was a stand up man that Kurt. Drank lots of tea. Have a cup of tea. Gwan sure, you might as well have a cup of tea.

I gotta ask, just how many of you were there when Nirvana came to light? As a fan with some pretty cool shirts, I meet tonnes of new nirvana fans and everyone seems to have this tabloid interpretation of who Kurdt was. Rape Me was written long before In Utero was released and one of Kurdt's explinations was that it was about red necks, not the media as most of you have read. Drain You is a love song, it's been in the back ground mix of many a passionate night for me and because of the tabloid image it's easily understandable why you would confuse much of what Kurdt wrote as being about drugs. Spend an hour with Dave or Krist and you'll get a more factual idea of what Kurdt was actually like, just another guy who liked to have a chat and smoke a few cigarettes. One day, someone might even write a book about him. maybe.

Kurt Cobain. The music had meaning, but meaning to him. It was probably about alot of things. sex "Chew your meat for you". drugs "yellow water". but It was not meant to be taken seriously in any way or shape. You wanna honor kurt? Spray paint a boat. Write "boat". He wanted to be an artist, not a musician. Don't take his lyrics seriously, and don't try to find a hidden message. You want hidden meaning? Go to the song "Rape Me" and remember what was going on in his life when it was written.
