Death of an Interior Decorator Lyrics - Death Cab For Cutie

Review The Song (5)

you were the mother of three girls so sweet
who stormed through your turnstile
and climbed to the street
but after conception your body lay cold
and withered through autumn and you found yourself old

can you tell me why you have been so(sad)

he took a lover on a faraway beach
while you arranged flowers and chose color schemes

can you tell me why you have been so sad?
can you tell me why you have been so sad?

the girls were all there
they traded their vows
the youngest one glared with furrowed brows
they tenderly kissed then cut the cake
the bride then tripped and broke the vase
the one you thought would span the years
sponsored links
so perfectly placed below the mirror
arriving late you clean the debris
and walked into the angry scene

it felt just like falling in love again
and it felt just like falling in love again

can you tell me why you have been so sad?
can you tell me why you have been so…

i think that this is one of their best songs. this happens to be the second out of two songs that i listened to. yesterday one of my closest friends was like have you heard death cab for cutie and i was like no cant say i have. so he made me look up we looked like giants because he believed that this was the best. we looked like giants was equally great but i chose the next song and well... i loved it. death of an interior decorator is one of the best songs on this earth and i believe that they (death cab for cutie) are very inspirational and that the words in their lyrics make people understand the situations that they describe perfectly. :D im definitely happy that my friend asked me to look them up. ♥♥♥ thank you sid. love you...

Amazing. | Reviewer: Kaleidoscope Boy | 1/5/08

This is by far one of thier most underrated songs, both by the band & its fans.

I love how the musical aspect sounds vaguely doo wop, Death Cab does that now and again.
It adds to the morose feeling of the song, in this case.
Also I love the roll the title plays in the interpretation of the song; if you listened to the song or read the lyrics whithout knowing the title, you would never know she died, and it could seem almost hopeful.
As I hear this song I picture blue and purple stripped wallpaper.

"Interiors" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/1/07

This song was inspired by the amazing Woody Allen film "Interiors," which was released in 1978 and starred Diane Keaton. If you ever get a chance, rent the movie and see how closely it mirrors the song. They are both brilliant works of art.

Beautiful lyrics | Reviewer: John E. | 4/29/07

Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab always knows exactly what to say to describe ironic situations and life lessons. For example this one of a woman getting married, picking out wedding idea's, etc, while fiance off with someone else.

great song | Reviewer: Bread | 11/25/04

I love this song. It is one of my most favorite DCFC songs. It is beautiful.
