Dear Mr. Fantasy Lyrics - Traffic

Review The Song (24)

Dear Mister Fantasy play us a tune
Something to make us all happy
Do anything take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar
Make it snappy
You are the one who can make us all laugh
But doing that you break out in tears
Please don't be sad if it was a straight mind you had
We wouldn't have known you all these years
Oooo Ahhhhh
Oooo Ahhhhh
Oooo Ahhhhh
Oooo Ahhhhh Ahhhhh

Anyone who tries to bring something like that into this song is completely lost.

As a "republican" who agrees with the second amendment, i wish you nothing but peace and love.

And, good luck with your whole vilifying people who don't agree with you thing. I'm sure it will work out well for you.

Stop attaching Obama to such a great song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/18/13

Poor ella, you would have to take a wonderful song and attach Obama in your review. I hope you are one of the 4.9 million that lost your insurance. I guess that would be that slacker Bush's fault not your lying Obama.

Never Grows Old | Reviewer: JanieD | 6/26/13

Watched a retrospective about Steve Winwood's career on BBC4 last week and fell in love again with his voice. Although I enjoyed his Spencer Davis days, I loved Traffic, Blind Faith and his later work. Dear Mr Fantasy is an excellent track and has aged well.

just a song | Reviewer: Gracy | 5/1/13

this track i heard recently, as im a digger for old rock n rol music, so i liked it...and i dnt understand why to bring drugs or politics....songs are made for all, who finds something for their soul in it they listen to the song...so i think no point in relating songs to argumental topics, like religion or politics, remember, these two themes always lead to War, and war, what is it good for, absolutly nothing....Remember this song...??
Good Luck for All.

Obama is as cool as this song | Reviewer: ella | 2/1/13

I love Mr. Fantasy. I also love the fact that President Obama was reelected and our economy is doing much better, no matter how much you racist, gun loving goons deny it.
Bush was the Definition of idiotic slacker as are all Republicans.

Passionately played | Reviewer: Ron | 1/2/13

Always loved this song. Saw Steve last month. This was the second song of his encore. He can absolutely shred the guitar, plays with soul and feeling. To hear this live was in worth the price of admission.

Drifting back to spring forward | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/22/12

Great song! Saw steve winwood concert last week and song was one of the highlights of the concert. 40 yrs later, the resonance that the song provides is still strong. Many at show were in their 60's and commented about how it took everyone bak in time. Music of the era was quite powerful and had many messages that are unifying.

kids | Reviewer: misterbill | 11/3/12

I drive sports charters for a high school, it seems the kids like to sing songs that are from my generation. I'm thinking about going back to playing open mikes-thought I would sing the songs that were always played whenever a rock band had a concert, to educate kids of the music of my day. That would be, 'Dear Mr Fantasy', 'A lighter Shade of Pale', and Sunshine of Your Love'. Not sure I could pull off Sunshine of Your Love, but I used to play Dear Mr Fantasy quite well. It is amazing that I can remember how to play songs that I knew in high school ('72), I have an awful time remembering songs now. I've reverted to using a music stand, which for open mikes no one seems to care.

By the way-thank you I could never understand the last line of this song!

Not about drugs at all. | Reviewer: Mr. fantasy | 6/9/12

I'm sure everyone knows a mr fantasy somewhere in their life. I think it's the person who always acts upbeat and happy, even when their not, just so that the people their around can have a good time. sometimes, they even act as the shoulder to cry on, taking everyone elses problems onto them selves, looking out for strangers. but occasionally, it becomes to much and they have a breakdown. I think this song is a dedication to all those people, from someone who has been helped by them.

Who knows, perhaps we've all been mr fantasy at some point.

Wonderfulness personified. | Reviewer: James Bridgewood | 5/13/12

I have the widest musical tastes and thought I had seen it all....
Until I stumbled upon this randomly a couple of nights ago.
I think this classic track is amazing(Not a phrase I would use lightly)
Having looked at the lyrics they are slightly sparse and I think in their haste to get the track out there they have perhaps missed a trick as if they had added maybe two different verses to this wonderful melody this had the makings of a worldwide smash.
However as it stands it still washes over me like a strawberry waterfall.
I just so love this track and will be playing it to chill from here on in.
It was nice to read all the other perspectives ,keep on rockin people!!

WAKE UP.."SHEEPLES" | Reviewer: Frank | 3/31/12

Dear Gary and Charlie...If you truly don't understand why Obama hasn't fulfilled his promises, then you're both Mr.Fantasy! Once you win the election and take office, you're given two choices. One, do as the Bankers and elite tell you to do, or two, get a bullet! Time to quite blaming those Demo-Liberals for everything. Here's another piece of reality...Watch Ziegist "The movie", and learn the TRUE religion! You all live in a fantasy, that there's a man in the sky, sitting on a cloud that has nothing better to do, then to listen to your bitching and crying. Grow up! BTW Charlie, learn to spell FANTASY! When you learn the truth about Christianity, you're really going to be embarrassed. Oh, and there's not a Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy..sorry HAPPY Holidays, oh, and the Constitution was not written "One Nation God", it was added later and will be the downfall of our Country!!!

Drugs? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/8/12

So most comments think this song is about drugs? I dont really see that. I think this song is about self sacrifice. About playing a role that you dont necessarily want to play just so everyone else can be happy. I dont really connect the meaning of this song to drugs. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Sometimes One Thinks Too Much | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/1/12

This is a tune about one of the members (Dave Mason)from the band Traffic, who left came back and left again after the completion of their first two albums. Winwood, Capaldi & Wood went in one direction, Mason went in another. The trios tunes were more "heady" & Masons were of a pop nature. That is all!

Don't Overthink This | Reviewer: Dick | 11/21/11

I was a young man when this song came out-only a few years younger than the musicians themselves. People like to think of our generation as a bunch of serious thinkers spending our time protesting man's inhumanity to man. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of us were happy getting high and listening to rock and roll. Is this a pro-drug song? Could have been we didn't care we were too busy having fun!

a play on fantasy | Reviewer: gary | 10/16/10

Being a teenager when this song first came on the radio,I can tell you with all certainty,it is a drug-ralsted tune. The eerie wavering voice and music, along with the lyrics, leaves nothing to ponder! It`s a classic tune that seems to catch you off guard when it comes on with it`s unique sound. It`s one of those timeless tunes that each individual will hear and form their own feelings about it.I have seen Windwood many times over the years with various artists, and he always puts on a great show.Yes,he is a good guitarist,as I am too.
As for Charlie: YOU ARE DEAD ON THE MONEY WITH YOUR POLITICAL STATEMENT ON THE CURRENT "DEMO-LIBERAL DICATATORSHIP",AND IT`S CONSEQUENCES TO OUR GREAT NATION.IT`S TIME FOR THE "SHEEPLE" TO AWAKEN FROM THE AMABO TRANCE AND SEE HE,AND HIS BUDDIES,FOR WHAT THEY ARE.TRASH!
Let`s take out the trash in two weeks!!
