D'Evils Lyrics
Artist(Band):Jay-Z
[Chorus: (scratched by DJ Premier)]
"Dear God, I wonder can you save me?" [Snoop Dogg]
"Illuminati want my mind, soul, and my body..." [Prodigy]
"Dear God, I wonder can you save me?"
"Secret society, tryin' to keep they eye on me..." [Prodigy]
"Dear God, I wonder can you save me?"
"Illuminati want my mind, soul, and my body..."
"Dear God, I wonder can you save me?"
[Verse 1]
This shit is wicked on these mean streets
None of my friends speak
We're all tryin' to win, but then again
Maybe it's for the best though, 'cause when they're seein' too much
You know they're tryin' to get you touched
Whoever said illegal was the easy way out couldn't understand the
mechanics
And the workings of the underworld, granted
Nine to five is how to survive, I ain't tryin' to survive
I'm tryin' to live it to the limit and love it a lot
Life ills, poison my body
I used to say 'fuck mic skills,' and never prayed to God, I prayed to
Gotti
That's right it's wicked, that's life I live it
Ain't askin' for forgiveness for my sins, endz
I break bread with the late heads, picking their brains for angles on
all the evils that the game'll do
It gets dangerous, money and power is changing us
And now we're lethal, infected with D'Evils...
[Chorus]
[Verse 2]
We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew black-hearted
Thinkin' back when we first learned to use rubbers
He never learned so in turn I'm kidnappin' his baby's mother
My hand around her collar, feeding her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was shitty so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced
So I kept feedin' her money 'til her shit started to make sense
Who could ever forsee, we used to stay up all night at slumber parties
now I'm tryin' to rock this bitch to sleep
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears, know she's wishin' we were still
close
Don't cry, it is to be
In time, I'll take away your miseries and make 'em mine, D'Evils...
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
My flesh, no nigga could test
My soul is possessed by D'Evils in the form of diamonds and lexuses
The exorcist, got me doin' skits like Homie
You don't know me, but the whole world owe me
Strip!
Was thought to be a pleasant guy all my fuckin' life
So now I'm down for whatever, ain't nothing nice
Throughout my junior high years it was all friendly
But now this higher learnin' got the Remy in me
Liquors invaded my kidneys
Got me ready to lick off, mama forgive me
I can't be held accountable, D'Evils beating me down, boo
Got me runnin' with guys, makin' G's, tellin' lies that sound true
Come test me, I never cower
For the love of money, son, I'm givin' lead showers
Stop screamin', you know the demon said it's best to die
And even if Jehovah witness, bet he'll never testify, D'Evils...
[Scratched by DJ Premier]

Review about D'Evils
I don't think you guys get it | Reviewer: Standy | 10/30/2008
Some of the reviewers seem to think Jay-Z is wrong for writing songs like this, that he is promoting and glorifying violence with his lyrics. Well, violence has been around in music a long time, just think about the fifties song "Tom Dooley" about the man who stabs his girlfriend. Sometimes people get confused when rappers talk about it though, because they often write from the criminals perspective. This does not mean that they are endorsing crime. Jay-Z raps as the drug dealer throughout Reasonable Doubt. In some songs, he seems to be excited, even bragging about it, but that is just part of the portrait he paints. Kingpins get excited about their work sometimes. Think of the movie Goodfellas, narrated by the coke dealer. In the beginning he is excited about his life of crime and all its glamour, but as the movie goes, it shows more and more of the uglier side the life. Is Scorsesse promoting crime?
In other songs like this one, Jay expresses doubt and shows the darker side of the business to complete the portrait. He talks about childhood friends that grow apart as they make more money and their lives become more violent, until they have to fear each other, and one decides to murder the other (and possibly the mother of his child as well). Does one promoting a life of crime talk about something so ugly? Does he call himself "blackhearted"? Would he call himself "infected with D'evils"? If you still believe that Jay-Z promoting violence and crime, then tell me why he chose to stop selling drugs and become a poet/musician instead. Superhero movies glorify violence, Scorsesse only examines it. If a child sees one of his mafia films and wants to be violent because of it, then the child is not sophisticated enough for that movie. If you listen to this song and you think it promotes violence, then perhaps this music is too sophisticated for you.

You guys got it partially wrong/right. | Reviewer: Alex | 10/1/2008
First of all the Illuminati/free masonry secret societies sect do not worship satan, they are luceferian and their concept is NOT the same as the bibles. They don't believe in a God because they know God is not a man with white beard and sandals. They are as equally brainwashed as the catholics of the world-they sell themselves for "godhood" here on earth, a life above the sheep or the common folk in exchange for power. Some believe this and the all seeing eye is linked to higher malevolent beings that manipulate this world, which makes sense if you do your research. These men think they are doing the right thing, that is why they are brainwashed-they believe it is their right. We will soon be in a big brother type of monitored society, this is the goal of NWO factions. One government, one monetary system, with one intergrated surveillance unit to watch us all (hence all seeing eye of Lucifer or Horus).
Don't be scared just be prepared for the worst.
This is illuminati :O | Reviewer: Lash | 9/10/2008
illuminati is The New world order, G. Bush senior talked about the first time 9/11 1991
Its a secret soceity. and hell ye, WERY satanic.
When he says
"Got me runnin' with guys, makin' G's, tellin' lies that sound true"
Freemasonry Symbol Is a "G"
and when he says.
"Illuminati want my mind soul and body"
"Secret Soceity trying to keep an eye on me"
By this he means -
illuminati's most used symbol is The Pyramid With the all seeing eye on top.
just like the one they putted on the 1 Dollar.
also on the 1 Dollar is a micro Owl hidden.
thats also one of their symbols. the Owl.
Like the one they Praise at the Bohemian Groove.
and not to mention the 20 Euro. With The white House.
i you turn it upside down You will see the Triangle/pyrimid with a Eye on top.

Jay Z said it himself....how are you gonna rate music that only thugs with nothing can relate to....until youve been at the bottom of the system with nothing dont even judge the message as bad or good....the people who are saying it goes against christian morals are morons....you have the things they want...
you never know | Reviewer: p-slope | 8/27/2008
The beat and flow is crazy, but the lyrics Jay is saying could be a form of deception to make it look as if he's describing his life growing up in marcy. Instead it could really be him promoting the devil and living a lifestyle without God. Like every other rapper, he talks of instant gratification, where in the bible God tells us to live by his word and not the flesh, which means to live by Gods wants and not yours. I know it's hard but we got to keep on trying. I know no ones perfect but you can't use that as an excuse. Just repent your sins and ask God for forgiveness(you really got to mean it) and God will forgive you for your mistakes. Remember to pray for guidance and help in whatever situation you're in and God will answer.
COME ON GET SERIOUS | Reviewer: Jonathan | 8/22/2008
It is really sad that even when a song like this has the bold lyrics right in front of you, some people will still hold on strong to trying not to believe. IF THE SHOE FITS, WHY YOU STILL TRYING TO PUT ON THE OTHER ONE THAT IS TOO SMALL??? Now, yes they are human, but if you allow spirits to reside in you, then it will come out. Marinate on that..
my thoughts | Reviewer: rosie | 8/13/2008
I think whether or not your a Christian ..whether or not you believe the lyrics to be against God... doesn't change the fact that he is still putting this stuff out there...for thousands to listen to and sing along to. Really listen to the lyrics...after that it's your own choice if you still want to listen to "D'evils".
We Are All A little brainwashed | Reviewer: NIB123 | 8/7/2008
I have been studying on freemason, the famous freemasons, the illuminati and the purpose. I belive in my heart that alot of people are selling their souls to the devil and some people i believe is being forced. Learn the 33 degrees in freemasons. Jay z, Kanye West, G- unit, nas ect.. alot of people are with this shit. they play a major role in keeping us brainwashed and in this box. Its not only in america The New World Order is world Wide. All we can do is pray for these kind of people and do our own research. Don't be fooled it is all around us.

I always appreciated reviews on music b/c I love to see what ppl think of what ppl are saying and most of the time they misinterpret it so it’s good to discuss but as far as this song I think that some of you are going in to deep, you’re over analyzing. All he is talking about is the risks of being involved in the game, in the streets, how it can change you, manipulate you which he gives this the name of D'evils (the evils) in his life or early life. Also MC's can relate rap to anything but Jay always had the talent of doing it at the peak performance and makes it sound so well. At the end of the day its only music, nobody is telling any of you to worship Jay, you don’t even have to listen. Some ppl put real life experiences in their music and some don’t we really don’t know who does and who doesn’t, we can assume and almost be sure with Jay b/c he speaks about the same sort of issues but again no one is being forced to listen. I for one don’t turn on the radio b/c im not interested in that down south music. It’s not for me so I just don’t listen, its that simple (BK-ENY)
