Cumbersome Lyrics - Seven Mary Three

Review The Song (4)

She calls me Goliath and I wear the David mask
All the stones are coming too fast for her now
Ya know I'd like to believe this nervousness will pass
All the stones that are thrown are building up a wall

I have become cumbersome to this world
I have become cumbersome to my girl

I'd like to believe we could reconcile the past
Resurrect those bridges with an ancient glance
But my old stone face can't seem to break her down
She remembers bridges, burns them to the ground

I have become cumbersome to this world
I have become cumbersome to my girl

Too heavy, too light, too black or too white, too wrong or too right
Today or tonight, cumbersome
Too rich or too poor she's wanting me less I'm wanting her more
The bitter taste is cumbersome

There is a balance between two worlds
One with an arrow and a cross
Regardless of the balance
Life has become cumbersome

Too heavy, too light, too black or too white, too wrong or too right
Today or tonight, cumbersome
Too rich or too poor she's wanting me less I'm wanting her more
The bitter taste is cumbersome

correction and meaning | Reviewer: Joe Rocker | 11/14/12

First, in the bridge it sounds to me like "one with an arrow where to cross" not "AN ARROW AND A CROSS".
Second the song is clearly about a soured relationship and the rejection of one's attempt to reconsile it by the other party

Great song | Reviewer: John | 10/30/11

The meaning is fairly simple to decipher.

He is saying how him and his soon to be ex see things at opposite ends of the spectrum. He thinks their relationship can be fixed if they both can achieve a mutual understanding, or balance. She see's that their is no hope of reconciliation because things are too far gone. She has reached a point where she does not think the effort is worth the reward. In her eyes, he has become too heavy of a burden and too difficult to deal with. In other words, he has become cumbersome.

I would be willing to say that he probably did her wrong and though she was once willing to reconcile, she waited too long for him to come to his senses and she broke. So now he is realizing he should have tried sooner to correct things and wanting her more, while she is moving on and wanting him less.

I absolutely love this song! I would guess the meaning but I'd never be sure of whether or not I was right, so what does this song mean? I think it has something to do with bittersweet one-sided want.
