Crazy Fingers Lyrics - Grateful Dead
Review The Song (4)
Your rain falls like crazy fingers
Peals of fragile thunder keeping time
Recall the days that still are to come
Some sing blue
Hang your heart on laughing willow
Stray down to the water
Deep Sea of Love
Beneath the sweet calm face of the sea
Life may be sweeter for this, I don't know
See how it feels in the end
May Lady Lullaby sing plainly for you
Soft, strong, sweet and true
Cloud hands reaching from a rainbow
Tapping at the window touch your hair
So swift and bright
Strange figures of light
Float in air
Who can stop what must arrive now?
Something new is waiting to be born
Dark as the night
You're still by my side
Gone are the days we stopped to decide
Where we should go
We just ride
Gone are the broken eyes we saw through in dreams
Gone - both dream and lie
Life may be sweeter for this I don't know
Feels like it might be alright
While Lady Lullaby sings plainly for you
Love still rings true
Midnight on a carousel ride
Reaching for the gold ring down inside
Never could reach
It just slips away but I try

My Second Favorite Dead Tune | Reviewer: nancy please | 3/3/12
Crazy fingers is my second favorite dead tune (Althea the first). It is a love song but more so sings to the bittersweet of life. Swift undertow, and of course going for the gold ring but never can reach... but I try. We all try, again and again and again. It is rare to reach the gold ring and most times if we do- swift undertow!

Hunter wrote these opaque, beautiful lyrics and Garcia put them to unthinkably beautiful music. Non Deadheads won't understand, but the good news is that Furthur and John Kadlecik brought it back.
Love This Song | Reviewer: Miss Liz | 8/25/08
Melodically, it's one of the best songs ever. So peaceful and intriguing. I'm not a huge Deadhead, but have always loved this song. I was off on a lot of the words in the lyrics and appreciate it so much more now being able to read the lyrics.
What a beautiful scene that's painted with words!
Thanks a bunch!
One of the Most Beautiful songs ever | Reviewer: Frank | 2/23/07
I'm assuming the lyrics were written by Robert Hunter.
Melody wise, Crazy Fingers is one of the most beautiful songs ever performed by the Grateful Dead.
It reminds me of a dreamy love song. Jerry Garcia just crooned beautifully. My favorite versions of the song were performed in the 80's and 90's. I last heard Jerry sing it in 1994 in Eugene Oregon.
I havent mentioned the beautiful guitar solo. Jerry just shines.
I guess its obvious its one of my favorite GD songs.
Too bad most people(non Deadheads) who love beautiful songs will never get to hear it
